  • The KVM Story
Style: 2 Computers 1 HDMI Monitor USB 3.0
Well I have had my share of KVM's in my time. This Terived TH21-3, 2 Port, USB, KVM is the latest in my collection. It is a lot smaller than the KVM's I had in the past. Having a KVM use to mean giving up a large amount of desktop real estate. This one is nice and compact thanks, in part, to the miniaturizing of circuits and parts over the years. It has the same problems recognizing the keyboard and mouse than every KVM I have had in the past. But because it is so much smaller, and simpler, to place on the desk top the problem of non-recognition is negligible. The cables are right in front of you so it is easy to unplug and reinsert the USB connection. That usually fixes any problems you might run into. I am surprised that the wireless mouse switches as well. I thought for sure I was going to have to go back to a wired mouse. I did have a little bit of trouble with the speakers turning on but that ended up being a setting not related to the KVM. The Keyboard HotKey feature works well and is very convenient. Overall setup was pretty easy and only took a few minuets. KVM's have gotten a lot more expensive over the years so finding this one was quite a plus. Good things come in small packages. ... show more

  • Solid, but not without it's flaws.
Style: 2 Computers 1 DP Monitor USB 3.0
Setup: 1. Macbook Pro M1 w/ touch bar. Connected as PC#1 to the KVM. I'm using a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter on 1 USB-C port. I'm using a small USB-C Passthrough hub in the other USB-C port. 2. Alienware M15R4 Gaming Laptop. Connected as PC#2 to the KVM. I'm using a mini DP to DisplayPort adapter. 3. Alienware AW510K wired keyboard. 4. Dell 32 4K UHD Gaming Monitor - G3223Q. Supports up to 144hz refresh rate w/ DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1. This monitor also has 2x USB 3 ports and a headphone out port. 5. I'm using the same keyboard for both workstations but separate mice. I like using Apple's magic mouse for programing and Mac use. I use a wired Logitech G502 HERO for my Alienware gaming. The cable setup was easy, unfortunately didn't work out of the box. Problem #1: The Keyboard was not recognized when using the included keyboard out port. I had to use my monitor's included USB 3 port to plug in my keyboard and mouse. I routed my monitor's kvm cable to 3.0 HUB port in the Terived KVM. An alternative could have been to purchase a cheap USB 3.0 hub and connect it to the 3.0 HUB port in the Terived KVM, then connect the keyboard and any peripheral to be shared in it. My monitor just so happen to have a mini hub included so I used that. Problem #2: The Monitor kept "disconnecting" every few seconds when playing Cyberpunk 2077 on 144 Hz refresh rate. If I lowered the refresh rate to 60Hz, then it worked fine. I had to go out of my way to purchase gold plated high end DisplayPort 1.4 cables. I changed the cable going from my PC#2 to the KVM and from the KVM going to the Monitor. Now the monitor very rarely disconnects, even under 4k - 144Hz gaming. Problem #3: The audio from the DisplayPort cables that is routed through the monitor's headphone out port into Logitech Z407 speakers. Sometimes stop working until I cycle between PCs a few times or turn on/off the monitor. My advice is that if you are going to buy this KVM unit. Buy your own high quality DisplayPort cables as well as a cheap USB 3.0 hub to complement it. ... show more

  • Great Product and awesome support
Style: 4 Computers 1 HDMI Monitor USB 3.0
The KVM is very easy to setup and use. I have a Desktop PC, a home media server and couple of mini PCs/ RPis which I have to switch between while debugging apps. All of these are now aggregated to a single space and connected to a single monitor and now I can switch between with just a click of a button. The 4 push buttons in front are very easy to use. I do not use the hot keys that frequently but tried couple of times and they work very well. The after-sale support of this product is great, they are over and beyond to help you. ... show more

  • Best Switch I've gotten, from the seller with the best customer service ever!
Style: USB Sharing Switch
Prior to buying this switch I've owned a handful of other switches. My PC has had trouble with previous switches and disconnecting the USB (almost like the power saving mode turns on even when it's been disabled). This switch does not have that problem. It also feels WAY more robust and sturdy. I love the front facing number to let me know which computer is active at any time (vs LED's on the top of the switch that I may or may not be able to see). The built in hot keys (which can be on mouse or keyboard) are really nice and allow you to mount the switch in a location that the button is not necessarily convenient to touch. Be aware that default the switch has a hotkey of pressing right control twice to hotkey switch. If you want to turn off the beep you hit rctrl rctrl b enter and the switch will stop beeping. However... it's important to know that the command is really (and not listed in the instructions as) Hotkey, Hotkey, [command button], enter. So to stop the beeps if you did the command to switch the hotkey to scroll lock becomes: scr lk, scr lk, b, enter. I didn't know this and it was a cause for thinking my switch wasn't working. Which brings me to the seller and their customer service! Explaining the issue to the seller (and the lack of the instructions not mentioning it), I had just assumed my box was not registering the keyboard commands, and the seller I think wasn't understanding the hotkey switching worked but the keyboard commands weren't (not realizing I had switched the command to scroll lck. so my ONLY critique would be to update the instructions a little to point out the commands are related to whatever your hotkey is currently set. They pretty quickly responded to my questions and we were messaging through amazon. The seller then said they would send me a new box because mine wasn't working. They made a youtube video showing it working, they mailed it priority so it got here in two days. Really the best customer service I ever had on amazon. ... show more
