  • AMAZED! This does everything and more for a beginner!! So fun n cool.
The media could not be loaded. Hi everyone. I just want to say that my expectations were low before purchasing but boy was I wrong. This lil drone is amazing for the price, This is my first time getting a drone so I wanted something I could practice on with features like gps follow (which works..I had it follow me 200ft above me while I drove my truck with the controller. It stayed right with me even though it was windy. The other feature that I wanted was an ability to hover and encircle an area, which you can do perfectly with it while simultaneously controlling the upward and downward movement of the 4k camera. Every other feature included in the app worked without any hiccups except the gps routing map. I am not sure if you can somehow download maps offline then upload them to the drone or if it needs an active cell signal as well in the phone to download the maps. All I had was an empty pale grid with the dot for the drone but no satellite imagery background to guide off of. Again, this was probably something I may have not figured out yet. I'm amazed how well it hovers in place. I do recommend geo calibrating it each time you fly it since it can get bounced and banged around and get it outta whack. That being said, I've never just had it fly away. In fact the controller to drone communication was actually pretty quick until you get into the 250ft range (my max). Some things I recommend for those starting out are: 1) Don't hesitate buying it. $70 with the $10 coupon makes it a steal at $60. Just get it you wont regret it. For basic reconnaissance, for fun, or whatever you use it for you really can't beat it. 2) Always remember to calibrate between flights if it will be a long time period between flights. 3) I was EXTREMELY amazed how well this 249g drone took light crashes. I have mistakenly hit tree branches at the top at high speeds and it would just bounce off then begin hovering again without any damage to the blades and you can sneak it outta the branches. OR it would tumble down and shut itself off to stop risk of damage. GET SMALL REFLECTIVE STRIPS OF TAPE or strobe lights that will still run after the drone shuts itself off or the battery gets pulled out. One day it was sunset and a friend hit a tree top way in the woods and it was really hard to find. I figured it was just a loss but we did find it. For hitting a tree full speed than tumbling and spinning props while it went down I couldn't believe there was no major damage to the drone or the camera I like the case it comes with but the only thing that I can see that would be an improvement or add-on accessory would be some type of band or sock/sleeve you could pull over the drone while folded so you can put it in your pocket or backpack easier. Same goes for remote which folds up. I found myself wanting to put the controller in one pocket and the drone in the other and just walk out to wherever we were going. I could set it up while walking as I got more practice so its ready at a moments notice. Unfold it, calibrate, connect, and in like 5 minutes your ready to fly. Remember to always put it in airplane mode and to auto connect to the wifi hotspot the drone puts out. I have had this for months and only just recently have broken a propeller and this is after hitting something more than once. As far as I know you need to contact support at: usa@tsrctoy.com to request replacement propellers, batteries, parts, etc. They will help you out with whatever you need to get flying up again. Also, YOU DO NOT need an sd/tf card to fly it and record pictures or video. I've only flown it with the card a few times and that's because I needed to free up space on my phone. Since there is no communication issue or latency with the card onboard the drone then it does take more detailed 4k pictures and 720-1080p video since no heavy compression is involved. Again this is a sub $100 drone that packs features of drones costing at least 400 or more. Like all other less expensive brands or models it does sacrifice a stabilizing gimbal and all that. But, it still moves 90 degrees up and down smoothly and that's all you really need to do a quick survey or just to enjoy some time flying around a park. I could go into more detail about the manual and other things but other customers have already addressed them so I don't don't want to be redundant. Once you get it in the air and see how simple it is you will realize how many applications drones could be used for. I mainly use it to take high aerial views of trails and lakes I hike around in case I get lost or hurt or want to see if there's any hazard or threat ahead. Just be respectful of other people and their pets or kids since it can spook them at first. you could also use a light paint coat and make it personal or name it instead of just all black. Just don't use heavy paint coats and don't touch the props and you should be fine and will have a nice little drone companion. Anyways, I don't review much but I take this thing everywhere Once I have over a thousand to spend on a higher tech one will make the upgrade and donate this one. Until then there isn't really any justification to spend that much for what I am using it for. Get this and fly it and see if you like it or if it's just going to sit in a closet ya know. At least you could donate it or give it to a family member and your not out a ton of money on something you didn't find interesting in the end. Another recommendation is to tinker with the settings in the app at the big gear wheel. The drone is set to be in novice mode by default which is great the first few times but leaves room for desire. So, I messed with the settings by putting the altitude max and now it flies around 250ft. ENJOY!!!!! ... show more

  • Good affordable drone for some outdoor fun.
The media could not be loaded. I purchased this drone a few weeks ago and have been playing with it and getting the hang of it. I've been wanting to get into drones for a while but haven't had the chance until more recently. Took it out to a friend's place to play with and it's pretty sweet. I'll rate the drone on a few different categories and then give my final ranking. The attached video is a few clips spliced together: some of me recording the drone in flight, and some from the drone while flying. Picture is of some friends, faces blacked out for privacy. FUNCTIONALITY: 4.5/5 stars The drone has a built-in HD camera and it uses a local wifi network (created by the drone, no internet access) to pair your smartphone and the drone. The controller has a little stand you can put your phone into, and I have a pretty large phone and it fit just fine, which was awesome. The phone screen shows you various controls on the drone and, of course, the camera. I don't have a VR set but it would be really neat to get a VR headset, put the phone in it, and fly the drone around to get a first-person view whilst flying it. The camera does not have audio (that I can find), so the recordings are just video. It can also take pictures as well. It occasionally took the clicking of a few buttons on the controller to get the phone and drone paired, and sometimes they would get disconnected (I think if I flew the drone too far), so that was a little annoying, but not a huge issue as it was pretty easy to get reconnected. We used the drone to even herd some cows and it worked great! EASE OF USE: 5/5 Very easy to use. The controls are straightforward: the left joystick makes the drone go up or down, or rotates it on its axis so the camera can face a different direction. The right joystick makes the drone actually go back/forward/right/left. There are a few hidden controls (discussed in the manual) like "point both joysticks diagonally and inward/toward yourself to take off." Just read the manual, it explains it fairly well. The only issue I had was that I made the mistake of flying the drone on a pretty windy day. That meant that sometimes even if I was going full throttle forward, if I was going against the wind, the drone would be stationary or even flying backwards. A friend got the drone caught in a tree once due to the wind (although we got it down without an issue). I'd recommend flying it in the kind of weather that would be bad for a kite: that is, little to no wind. BATTERY: 4/5 The battery is the weakest part of the design. I don't recall how long it is rated for, but each battery probably only lasts about 30 minutes if you are pushing the drone non-stop. Not sure how much actively recording while flying contributes to that since the camera is always on anyways. I did charge the battery for a long time and waited until the little charge indicator light went from red to green (a nice touch, by the way) before using it so I know it was fully charged. However, the drone set does come with TWO batteries, so even though they die fairly quickly, you can just swap the new one in and get back into the air. Both batteries have USB C ports, so you can plug a charge directly into them and charge them conveniently and quickly. No proprietary adapter needed. The phone view will also show you how much battery life is left (1–4 bars and then the battery goes red at the end), and if the battery is too low, the drone will refuse to fly over like a foot off the ground. This is a good safety feature because you don't want the drone to die at like 40 feet in the air! I wish the batteries lasted longer, but I also know this is a light drone that can't be weighed down too much or it won't be very maneuverable, and I appreciate that they make up for the short battery life by providing multiple. DURABILITY: 5/5 I crashed this thing into a few trees, got it stuck in some branches, and accidentally flipped it a few times on the ground—and it never had any issues. If you're less lucky, however, it does come with some replacement blades if they get damaged. That's the other advantage of it being a lighter device: it doesn't get hurt as much when you crash it. OVERALL RATING: 5/5 - I really enjoy playing with this drone. It's a cool device, pretty safe to use (the blades didn't hurt my hand when I accidentally grabbed them while it was on), was a pretty low-cost investment for something I can use for a while, and while there are certainly very expensive drones out there that might be a lot better, I think this is a 5 star product because of the lower price point it's at. ... show more

  • Return home tried going to mars
So I usually don't leave reviews but felt compelled to in this case. This drone was great for a few minutes. Took off nice, easy controls, hovered decently in place. We were having a blast until we tested the auto return home button. Drone took off vertically like it was on a mission to Mars. It accelerated faster than every time I've manually hit the controls to make it fly up. Worse part it started veering all over the place and didn't want to respond to manual controls. I kept hitting the button and the down stick and after about 30seconds of random flying all over the yard it decided to land. I assumed maybe I didn't know what I was doing... Tried the button again and it landed perfectly. So I put it away, charged it, played with it the next day... Same thing!!! Half the time it decides to land when the home button is pressed, other half it decides to fly towards mars at lightning speeds and ignores any inputs. Im assuming I have a defective unit, I'm definitely not the only one. Lots of comments about it not returning home. If it did nothing except hover in place that would be one thing... But this thing rockets towards space, first straight up and then random directions. It's quite unnerving to the point where if the replacement drone does this I'm going to be forced to look into a different one. I would avoid this unit, or at the very least immediately test the return home feature when you receive it. ... show more
