The light works exactly as advertised. Ignore complaints by buyers who don't know what they are purchasing. It IS "gloss piano finish", so it will leave fingerprints when not cleaned, just like 90 percent of computer monitors, and 100% of cell phone, tablet displays. It is very stable, the base is plenty heavy to keep it from tipping. All the joints of the rotating elbows are firm and hold their position. The switches are working very well, the slightest touch will activate them, again just like a cell phone touch control.The brightness controls are good, and they retain both their user selected mode (Sleep->Reading) and levels (adjusted (+ -) even when the lamp is turned off then turned on again. The LED light source provides a somewhat diffused illumination, less glare and less shadows that normal, incandescent or even CFL light bulbs. I've bought two of these to replace Ott-Lite task lights... first one, then another. So I'm either an idiot or I'm pretty happy with them. The light is good, the white balance selections are useful, they don't buzz, and they take very little space on my desk. Just one thing: about the description: They are claimed to be "dimmable" but don't expect to connect them to an external dimmer. That won't work, due to the type of power supply these lights use. The "sleep" setting is dimmer than the rest (and also much "warmer", ie much less blue) but that's the extent of the "dimming". Also, if you try to run them on any sort of remote switch, that won't work either. When the remote switch is turned on these do not light up, even if they were "on" when the remote switch was last turned off. You will just have to live with tapping the on/off button on these. That's the reason for my four- instead of five-star rating. ... show more

UPDATED REVIEW: I am updating my review from 1 to 4 stars as a result of the customer service I ended up receiving from the manufacturer. Even though the item was outside Amazon's return window, the Tenergy rep offered to have a new lamp sent out to me at no additional cost after learning about the issue with the USB port. They determined it must have been a defect in that particular lamp (since the USB port never worked even thought the lamp was brand new). They were very responsive and easy to communicate with on the customer service side. I just received the new lamp yesterday, plugged it in, and the USB port works! Hooray! I would definitely consider ordering from them again given the positive customer service experience and the fact that they stood behind their product. ORIGINAL REVIEW: If you are purchasing this for the USB port, beware! I purchased this lamp (new) for someone as a Christmas gift and the USB port was one of the main reasons I chose this lamp over many others. The gift recipient has been using this lamp for several weeks now as a reading light at bedtime (and the light part has been working great), but only today did they get around to trying the USB port to charge their phone. And...it doesn't work! We tried 3 different charging cords and 5 different devices. Nothing. It doesn't even charge for a moment and then stop--there is clearly no power coming from the port. Of course (as luck would have it), the "return window" for the lamp closed a few days ago so now we are stuck with a lamp that has a useless USB port. I don't know if I received a "used" lamp by mistake or if this was just a manufacturing defect, but in any case is was a major disappointment. None of the reviews I had read before purchase warned of a defective USB port, so it didn't even cross my mind that the lamp light would work (but not the USB port). So if/when you decide to buy this lamp, be sure to check the USB port right away to see if you got a dud like I did. ... show more

Best lamp ever! I'm thinking about getting another. It lights up your work area very well! There are 5 different brightnesses I'm a painter so if I want less reflection I can tone down the light or if I am working on something very small it can be set at the brightest! The head rotates and turns to whatever angle you wish. One of my favorite parts is the timer! My husband forgets lights on ALL the time but when he uses this he turns it on by the timer which automatically turns off after an hour, saves me from following him into the office! So, so much better than the crappy desk lamps I've been using all my life (the junk from the 80's and 90's my Dad kept all these years and ever so graciously passed down to me while he buys himself the latest and greatest). It has a clean, sleek, and a modern, comforting design. It's lightweight so it's easy to pick up and move, but unlike most lightweight things it has a wide base so it doesn't tip over when you knock it around. I love it. Most important, it has great shielding. You might not think that's important, but it really, really is. I have it on the top shelf of my computer desk so that it doesn't get in the way when I'm doing work (as I have limited desk space). With most desk lamps I've used in the past, the bulb is exposed and unshielded so that when you tilt your head up there is giant light burning in your eyes. Ugh. I hate that. Especially at night when you're trying to do work in a dim environment, it always gets me hard. SO annoying. So thankful I bought this so I don't have to deal with that anymore. And for $20??? I needed a light for my desk, but wanted something that didn’t take up a lot of space and was bright. I work FT, go to college FT, and love to craft. This light is perfect. It is as long as a pencil/pen (as pictured.) The USB port does work, I love this feature since I can charge my phone or iPad if I need to. I appreciate the fact I can adjust the brightness as well, some lights are too dim and some lights are wayyyy too bright, this is super nice! Especially since my desk is by a window and it always varies how bright I need my workspace to be depending on where the sun in. I’m very happy I bought this light. ... show more
