  • It works....
Size: Android 12 8+128GB
First off, I hate the Android OS. But as time goes on I encounter more and more things that require the inappropriately-named "smart"-phone or tablet - parking garages that bill through QR-code apps, medical monitors that need an app, etc., that neither my windows desk or laptops support. It was the latter that compelled me to look for an Android tablet, and after reading reviews, I decided on the M40Plus. My first task was skipping through much of the Google-snooping set-up stuff, linked up to my wifi (took a couple of attempts), created a Google account, went to the Google Play Store and downloaded the medical app, and a few other apps I thought might be handy (off-line maps, an office clone, QR Code reader, MS Edge for Android..). Spent a good amount of time on the internet learning how to do basic stuff with the android OS. Did I mention I hate the Android OS? Yes, I believe I did. Anyway, the M40 arrived new in sealed box, battery charge was about 88%, charged it to 100% with the included adaptor and cord, and launched into setup as mentioned. Some built-in and download apps like to think they're the only thing you need and closing them or getting them out of the way sometimes required shut-down and reboot. And after reboot, re-establishing a wifi connection often requires going into settings, "forgetting" that connection and re-entering the password and holding your tongue just right to connect again. Once connected though it seems to remain connected pretty well. I was able to connect the tablet to my desktop via USB cable, transfer some word and excel files to test the office clone App, and some pictures for new wall-paper, go into settings and set the screen-saver/screen-lock to "never" (from 5 minutes) so I wasn't having to recover the tablet display while I was waiting for the current process (downloading, whatever..) to complete. Because I intend to keep this for awhile now that the "medical" need has been satisfied. I bought the M40+ case also. I also discovered that the Tablet linked up nicely with an old bluetooth logitech keyboard (THAT will make life much easier, as the internal keyboard often jumps up and covers the area of the screen you're entering info into), so I purchased a small folding bluetooth keyboard (the logitech is half-again larger than the tablet). Bluetooth also linked up easily and firmly with the medical device via settings - the app for it apparently wasn't able to do it auto-magically as it implied). Battery life was much better than I anticipated, but I did buy a fast-charge (3A) adaptor as the 2Amp included was a bit slow (took about 45 minutes to bring the MP40+ up from 88% to 100%), and I bought a carrying case for the tablet, keyboard, cord and new adaptor to reside in. I'm thinking resurrecting my old Verizon Jetpack "hotspot" (my android flip-phone hot spot function is slower than a banana slug on a glacier) as this tablet (if it lasts) could be much handier than trying to use the windows laptop in the car travelling. Plus, with use I might just learn to not hate the Android operating system so much, maybe even start to like this thing. In summary, for my main reason for buying it, it worked. Mission accomplished - everything now is just gravy. (Watch out for the camera function however, it's apparently set to "full-auto" - hold that button down too long and you'll fill your photos folder quickly -33 individual pics in about 3 seconds! Wahoo .. good for those "action shots" I suppose.) I give it an optimistic 4 stars.. for $120 bucks.. yea.. (I did buy the 2 year warranty .. just . in . case..) ... show more

  • This is the best wifi tablet for the money, i have seen anywhere!
Size: Android 12 8+128GB
The screen is gorgeous. (i tried to photo it but i don't have a good camera on my phone, trust me tho) This is a 1920x1200 native screen which makes it a good pixel density for the size, and the aspect ratio is a nice trade off between a sheet of paper/movie 16:9, and older content scales pretty well for instance, 240p content (such as many retro game) is a perfect 5x integer scale, which is not possible with 1920x1080 screens. If you like to game, it should be no problem to emulate things up to PSP, and you can probably get even more taxing systems to play ok. it has a Mediatek MT8183 4/4 big little 8 core and 2 G72 Mali cores, and an AI accelerator core. For those not familiar, Mediatek makes ARM processors mostly aimed at the Chinese market, and they offer considerable bang for the buck. Basically, Teclast has done a very good job localizing this hardware for the American market. The sound is ok, you get 2 speakers of ok quality, and the headphone/mic 3.5 mm jack is excellent. The build quality is nice, aluminum. it feels solid in your hands and the weight is nice. i have no problems watching an hour of anime or playing a half hour of some rpg with touch controls. as with most (all?) android devices input latency on the touch screen is very high and prone to jitter. You will want to use an external gamepad to play action games (i like a nintendo switch wired controller connected with a USB C hub) or you will want to use some type of MIDI or OSC input if you are making music in realtime on this thing (i haven't tried a music making setup yet). This is really a problem with android OS, itself and how it handles touch input. Shame on Google for not addressing this issue after all these years!!! This brings up the only shortcoming i have with the tablet, it doesn't support PD power delivery, really, so you are advised to use only a 5V 2A power adapter (which is included). This can be slow to charge the tablet fully, and sometimes, if you are gaming with a USB hub, you will not have enough power to maintain charge while gaming with a controller... So that's a little bit of a bummer. Teclast advises that there may be some issues if charging with USB C PD power supply and a PD hub... I haven't tried it yet, but I will update if i get around to it. So far, it hasn't been much of an issue, just make sure the battery is charged up for heavy gaming sessions and maybe consider using a bluetooth gaming controller unless you are playing a game that requires low input latency/jitter. Otherwise, it should be fine, and the battery is fairly huge, so just keep it charged, and you are good. The only other possible shortcoming, is there doesn't seem to be any support for Mobile data/sim card, but if you have an extra sim card you could use a usb modem or get a travel router (i like the ones by GL.inet, they are super solid) As for the WIFI support, it is excellent. I remember the struggle just a few years back trying to stay connected to wifi with similar tablets, and this thing has no trouble at all. even weak/poor signals stay connected. If you have Xfinitywifi (or a similar service), this is a great choice for a wifi tablet, and you will have no problems at all. Bluetooth support... well it's bluetooth, so you can expect the usual jitter and scrambled packet nonsense while listening to music. if you have your device in hand and speaker in backpack, it works just fine tho, and it's better than using a cable and risking damage to your analog ports. However, if you are in a stable location, and you have a decent cable and decent analog on your speakers, then the analog sounds great! it's the way to go, in that case (imho). I do wish they had moved the analog jack over just a little from the edge of the table though... it's kind of on the bevel and occasionally it can cause mistriggers when sensing if there is a microphone connected. Just use it when you are stable location, and it's no problem. Finally, i'll come to the memory. it is a perfect size for this type of device. I really appreciate that they have included 8 GB of RAM. that is a very comfortable amount for a modern Android installation and it also leaves plenty of RAM to run Linux/Userland on top of your android (this lets you run full desktop versions of software which is crippled on Android--web browsers, etc). I also like the 128GB internal memory. that is a very comfortable amount to fill with your favorite games/music/anime/reading materials. Evidently it is the new (better?) kind of of internal memory. (i forget what it's called)... and also, it claims to support up to 1 TB of memory upgrade via TF (trans flash, heh), which is better known as "micro SD" in the west. all in all, this is a great tablet. i am very stoked about my purchase. great job teclast! let the RETECLASTNATION begin! :D ... show more

  • Almost returned it, glad I didn't
Size: Android 12 8+128GB
I purchased this tablet because I was having issues with a different android based tablet with Wifi speeds and disconnecting. I have a pretty robust mesh Wi-Fi 6 system and Fiber optic internet. The area I was using the tablet was not far from 2 different nodes, but for some reason had a poor connection. An iPad placed in the same area had no issues at all with connections and download speeds. I was very careful unpacking this tablet because I thought there may be a strong possibility I may return it, after reading a few of the other comments for this product. I set it up, and it was horrible trying to connect. But I pushed though and did 2 updates when it managed to connect at a slow speed. I then even updated the firmware on my Wifi router, did a system reboot- then just left the tablet for a while- thinking- yeah this is going back. I decided one more try, I went close to one of the mesh nodes (because I was equidistant between 2 nodes), I went to the wifi settings on the tablet to "forget" my wifi connection and set up the connection again- and after that, connection was strong, download and upload speed were about 200Mbps which were actually faster than the iPad. For the past 3 days with occasional reboots (just to test the connectivity) it has locked on and been solid with no issues. Other than that, the tablet is great, not quite as fast as the new iPad I have but a way better value for the money. The touchscreen could be a bit more sensitive along edge areas, but that's about it. Screen is real bright and really the speed is pretty fluid. It's also a solid tablet. I'm an Android person, but never had an Android tablet that was comparable to iPad (but I never purchased the $300 Android tablets). This is the first time I've used an Android tablet that I felt was comparable at a much lower cost point. ... show more
