  • The glass insulated carafe is new, you might have old stock
Color: Polished Silver
On this particular model, the KBT 79112, there is a lot of stock still floating around with the old style double insulated stainless steel carafe. If you got that carafe and are satisfied, that's great. I was not. I actually bought one of these during Prime Days 2023 at a substantial discount at $220. It had been a wish list item for three years. I snatched it up and it arrived a few days later. I didn't really know that the newest stock had a glass insulated carafe until I received the one I ordered during Prime Days. Once I knew it came with a glass insulated carafe I was hooked. I've had double wall stainless steel insulated containers before and they're much more prone to holding old coffee flavors and oils. Even when clean they aren't completely rid of the old oils and as soon as you put fresh hot coffee in them, you get the old rancid tastes to taint your perfect brew. After cleaning everything up, I put in the recommended weight of grounds listed on the Moccamaster manual, filled the reservoir with mineral balanced RO water, and brewed a pot. It was delicious! Perfect! Literally it was everything I'd hoped it would be. I decided this would be going to work with me. But then I needed one for home and Prime Days was over. So I thought I'd buy a 'Like New' from the Amazon Warehouse for $65 off the regular price. It arrived and there was not the glass lined carafe I expected, but a double wall stainless steel carafe instead. I thought it was a super old model that had just gotten recycled. I went to the Moccamaster website and found that in October 2022 they started supplying the glass insulated carafe with the KBT models. Anything before that it would be the stainless steel double wall carafe which is easily distinguished by the stainless steel rim on the carafe without a defined spout. Just a stainless steel ring at the top. That is the old version. I returned it. I ordered a brand new Moccamaster KBT expecting it to have the new glass installed carafe. No luck. It was brand new, shipped by Amazon, but from a third party vendor. I returned that one. I then decided to buy the Moccamaster sold and shipped by Amazon. It arrived just today and voila! the glass insulated carafe! I don't know if that's the trick to getting the newest stock, but it worked for me. The new glass insulated carafe is an $85 item on Amazon, so if you don't get it with your order, you're going to be disappointed if that's what you were wanting. That's really my only quibble. The coffee the Moccamaster makes is exquisite. Perfect. If you're buying one of these coffeemakers you're probably already buying specialty coffee. The Moccamaster will not disappoint. It's a great machine. I grind with a Baratza Virtuoso on grind number 26 and used the Moccamaster No. 4 filters. You can experiment with the grind setting, but hopefully that's helpful information. I haven't used the half carafe setting on the filter basket yet. Some have said you can actually get a bloom going on your grounds if you start on the 'X' setting and then opening the filter basket to the open circle setting. I haven't tried the either. It makes a perfect pot of coffee. If that's what you want, that's what you'll get. Just beware you might have to try a couple times on ordering to get the glass insulated carafe. Maybe order it using your credit card so you can float the cost while you wait for any returns to come through if you have to order more than one. ... show more

  • Amazing with lots of pieces
Color: Polished Silver
So I've owned this coffee pot now for about 1 1/2-2 years. I wanted to really understand it before writing a review. So.... Pros: It makes amazing coffee. I trust it heats to the proper temp. Initially I used the recommended amount of coffee suggested by the manufacturer. Really strong for me but still amazing. I found my level. It brews very fast. I love how I can adjust the cone opening for how long the water stays on the grounds. Cons: Too many pieces! A lid for the water, some insert that goes into the coffee pot (not sure what this items purpose is. I don't use it and the coffee seems to taste the same with out it. Believe me I did both for along time). Then having to put the screw lid on. It doesn't stop brewing into the pot if you wanted a quick slurp with out having to find the cone latch to stop it then re lifting to restart (I know petty petty but early morning and sleepy eyes it could be one step less with a foggy head) The one other is that after this amount of time there is a lot build up, with a small bit of mold, under the water basin. I've tried to get under it but to no avail. Looks as though I need to unscrew the water basin. I'm sort of nervous detaching the little pipes. It seems like a lot of con but it really does make an amazing pot of coffee. Nuff said. ... show more

  • makes a great cup of coffee
Color: Polished Silver
I had a black and decker coffee maker that lasted for 30 years, but recently the coffee wasn't staying hot as long. This was a thermos carafe that worked well, and I liked it a lot. But the Moccamaster makes a lot better tasting cup of coffee. The glass carafe seems to keep the coffee just as hot as the stainless steel one on the Black and Decker, but the brewing method makes a much richer coffee. I was reluctant to spend so much on a coffee maker, but I am happy with my purchase and enjoy the taste difference. ... show more

  • Makes the best darn coffee
Color: Polished Silver
This is our second MoccaMaster. Wanted to get one with a stainless steel carafe we could use outside or camping and not worry about it breaking. Holds the heat well. Easy to clean. And of course makes a great pot of coffee. Worth every penny.

  • Looking for longevity
Color: Stone Gray
My Ninja carafe broke...again...and I was tired of the hit-and-miss coffee it produced. It had also had leaking issues over its life. I've had several coffee makers over the last 20 years or so and honestly, I'm sick and tired of buying junk and then just throwing it away when it breaks a couple of years later...if that long. So I researched and was seriously considering the Breville but then realized...here we go again...fancy features I won't use more than a few times and lots of electronic settings which will likely break within a year or two. So I bought the Moccamaster and, so far, I'm pretty happy with it. It's a very simple design. Very little to break and they allegedly have engineered any parts that COULD break, to NOT break. The set up is simple. Push the arm onto the spigot in the water reservoir and you're ready. The rest stacks on top of a plastic 'holder' and gravity does the rest. Everything pulls apart for easy cleaning. The flavor is outstanding and rivals local coffee shops. It really brings out the flavor of the beans...and in the end, it's not about fancy features, it's about the taste. I grind my beans and I'm using a Peet's blend right now but tasting all the subtleties of these flavors makes me want to source some local roasters and experiment. Even as a kid I was drawn to coffee and have loved it my entire life. I really enjoy my morning coffee routine and always wanted to try a really good coffee maker. I even played with roasting my own beans for awhile but the flavors were off. Call me a snob...I'm good with that. But, I love my coffee and I think I've found my forever friend. ... show more

  • Can't go wrong with a MM!
Color: Polished Silver
Love the glass lined carafe. Needed to change the grind setting and play with the filter flow (you can close it, or have it set to half or full pot) to dial in the brew to our taste. Love the fact that you can get replacement parts on everything. Three months in I am very happy with our investments. Remember to descale regularly to keep the warranty valid. ... show more
