I recently purchased this TCL 40 X 5G Unlocked Phone and I must say, it's quite impressive. The 6.56-inch HD+ display is vibrant and sharp, making videos and games look stunning. I used to use a Samsung A53 cell phone, and on the recommendation of a friend, I bought this one from TCL. This phone meets my needs perfectly and is a great choice for under $200! The 5000mAh battery is a game-changer. I use my phone extensively throughout the day, and this battery easily lasts from morning to night with plenty to spare. It's such a relief not to worry about constantly charging my phone. The 50MP main camera delivers some excellent shots. My galaxy a10e that i've had for 3 years now, just busted. This was considerably discounted and caught my eye, so I bought it. So far, its great. Its much faster, bigger and better to use than the a10e. I was panicking because I didn't think to by a sim card, but I found out I could just pop the one in my galaxy in this. Overall its just better in every way. For the price I paid, the phone has a lot of features and hardware that I'm impressed with. 6 gigs of ram and a decent amount of onboard storage, large and clear screen, good weight, and decent camera. Yeah, it's obviously not doing anything crazy in terms of specs compared to more expensive phones, but If you're looking for something unlocked, not bottom of the barrel, and can actually pass for a decent modern phone, then I'd get this. This is a pic of boxman I took with the camera in pro mode. Not the best features, but if you actually care about the image you're going to edit it with something else anyway. Pros: Really decent specs all around for the price Stereo audio Decent Camera Great Price Android 12 unlocked fingerprint scanner Comes with a clear silicon case fast charging (pretty fast) + a bunch of small bells and whistles Cons: -Setting a custom notification or ringtone is a hassle with the stock system as the default apps can't really be changed(as far as I know) -Good luck finding a decent case for this, even ON amazon (ali has some custom ones you can make, but no they're mostly silicone) -A fair amount of bloat. luckily you can uninstall a lot of it. Though there's still some left over. -Default apps are... not great. Good luck changing them. -while the internal storage is decent, i'd suggest getting an microsd. I bought this phone to use as a AT&T backup to my T-Mobile main phone (Galaxy Note 20 Ultra) because we bike on a rural trail where T-Mobile service is spotty and AT&T service is stronger (or at least not spotty where T-Mobile is spotty). My bike app and Audible both require data to function so no data service = no trip recording and no audio book listening. I worked in person with a local AT&T rep to get a very affordable pay-as-you go plan with unlimited talk and data for the phone, which solves my connection problem. To extend my Note's lifespan, I also wanted to use the cheaper TCL phone to protect my more expensive Note from the dust, fall, rains, etc that occur on the trail, which brings additional value to the TCL phone for me. When not biking, I've used it as an music and audio book player, with social media apps, for searches, with the Sonos app to control my Sonos speakers, and with Tidal, YouTube, and other media sources. It has performed well in all these applications. It is a 5G phone but I can't speak to using it as a phone. I forwarded the TCL phone to my Note so I'll rarely, if ever, use it to make a call. I do receive texts from AT&T with no issues. The price for the device is excellent even with a few minor issues. The touch screen is somewhat less responsive than my Note; although, I'm learning the quirks of the TCL touch screen so this is becoming less problematic. There is no stylus, which I miss from the Note. I find myself missing some of the Note's Galaxy features like the edge panels. But, hey, can't have everything for $120 compared to $1K to $2K for a new Galaxy phone. The battery life is good. I've never had an issue with running out of power that interrupts use, but mine is never far from a charger and I carry a power bank during rides. In my use, a charge lasts at least a day to a day and a half. It charges quickly. It runs Android 13. In a tech literature review of the phone (which, unfortunately, I can't find now), I read that this TCL phone only includes 2 years of Android updates so security vulnerabilities due to out-of-date OS might become a problem. As far as I can tell, this is not mentioned in the Amazon product description or on the TCL website. I've never used the camera. I bought a fall-resistant case. I've dropped it a couple of times with no damage. I inserted a used, reformated microSD card to expand storage but I have almost nothing stored on the phone. ... show more

The TCL 40 X 5G is one awesome phone, especially if you're all about getting bang for your buck. I've been hanging out with this phone for a few weeks now, and I'm low-key blown away. It's snappy, doesn't keep you waiting, and does all the things you'd want from a phone. The camera is the real MVP though. Now, let's talk about that battery life. This thing's a marathon runner.
