  • Great Pet Food
Flavor Name: Roasted Bison and Roasted Venison Size: 28 Pound (Pack of 1)
My dog has been eating this dog food for 5+ years. It's grain free and is high quality. We order it via Subscribe and Save. It's a win-win for us and our dog. He's an over 15 year old golden and I credit quality food to his health and longevity.

  • The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of ...
Flavor Name: Grain Free Adult Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
The first ingredient in this dog food is buffalo. Although it is a quality item, raw buffalo contains about 80% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight. After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product. The second ingredient is lamb meal. Lamb meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh lamb. The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates in a dog food. They are naturally rich in dietary fiber and beta carotene. The fourth ingredient is egg product, an unspecified (wet or dry?) form of shell-free eggs. Quality can vary significantly. Lower grade egg product can even come from commercial hatcheries — from eggs that have failed to hatch. In any case, eggs are easy to digest and have an exceptionally high biological value. The fifth ingredient is pea protein, what remains of a pea after removing the starchy part of the vegetable. Even though it contains over 80% protein, this ingredient would be expected to have a lower biological value than meat. And less costly plant-based products like this can notably boost the total protein reported on the label — a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The sixth ingredient includes peas. Peas are a quality source of carbohydrates. And like all legumes, they’re rich in natural fiber. However, peas contain about 25% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The seventh ingredient is potato. Potatoes can be considered a gluten-free source of digestible carbohydrates. Yet with the exception of perhaps their caloric content, potatoes are of only modest nutritional value to a dog. The eighth ingredient is canola oil. Unfortunately, canola can be a controversial item. That’s because it can sometimes (but not always) be derived from genetically modified rapeseed. Yet others cite the fact canola oil can be a significant source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. In any case, plant-based oils like canola are less biologically available to a dog than fish oil as a source of quality omega-3 fats. The ninth ingredient is tomato pomace. Tomato pomace is a controversial ingredient, a by-product remaining after processing tomatoes into juice, soup and ketchup. Many praise tomato pomace for its high fiber and nutrient content, while others scorn it as an inexpensive pet food filler. Just the same, there’s probably not enough tomato pomace here to make much of a difference. From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of this product. With four notable exceptions… First, flaxseed is one of the best plant sources of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Provided they’ve first been ground into a meal, flax seeds are also rich in soluble fiber. However, flaxseed contains about 19% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food. Next, salmon oil is naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to dogs and humans. Depending on its level of freshness and purity, salmon oil should be considered a commendable addition. In addition, chicory root is rich in inulin, a starch-like compound made up of repeating units of carbohydrates and found in certain roots and tubers. Not only is inulin a natural source of soluble dietary fiber, it’s also a prebiotic used to promote the growth of healthy bacteria in a dog’s digestive tract. And lastly, this food contains chelated minerals, minerals that have been chemically attached to protein. This makes them easier to absorb. Chelated minerals are usually found in better dog foods. ... show more

  • dog loves it
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 28 Pound (Pack of 1)
My 2 yr old shepherd/lab mix has EPI so finding a dogfood that she likes and I can afford is everything to me! The grain free is just what the doctor ordered. Literally. The stuff he wrote a prescription for was $150!!!! Ummm....he has lost his mind for sure. The enzymes I have to put on top of her food 20 minutes before she eats it is $158 a month. Could you imagine that?!! The forums online talked about this brand of dogfood almost everywhere I searched. I decided to give it a try. I am ecstatic my girl loves it. I mix a bit of cooked burger, a little rice, and zucchini and carrots and my girl gobbles it up! She will eat it plain but this is more what her system needs now that we've gotten her condition under control a year after diagnosis. It's just a superior product compared to others on the market. I've tried them all. Recommend ... show more

  • we are very very happy with this new dog food Call of the Wild
Flavor Name: Roasted Bison and Roasted Venison Size: 28 Pound (Pack of 1)
This is Antoinette Jackson. I am writing to let you know of the new change in our dogs FOOD. WE had been on Canada Day through ALL our Goldens, and I was a breeder at one time and always swore by Canidae our dogs got nothing else no other dog food and all that time. It has been well over 15 years Well there’s been a change and it’s a distinct change. We noticed that our seven year old Golden male had begun eating bowls of Canidae dog food more than triple the AMOUNT. We carefully watched this for four solid months. It seemed like he was eating cardboard or sawdust, there seemed to be nothing in the food nutritionally because he never seemed to get full and the more we put in the more he ate. THIS has never been true for our dog and we began thinking something is very strange with the Canada. They’ve been changing the size, the bags, they’ve been changing a lot of things and whatever they have done is not beneficial - not at all. Meanwhile, a beautiful, black and white cat has since made our home his and we wondered what kind of food we should start giving him, After much discussion and talking with reputable feed and animal stores, WE went with CALL OF THE WILD SALMON for the CAT. The cat seemed to thrive on it. His coat became beautiful and shiny and he was gaining weight. Plus he likes the food. Now back to our Golden, we decided that we would put Mauna Kea also on CALL OF THE WILD the Buffalo and VENISON. WE were able to get a 38 pound bag and for as much as Mauna Kea was eating with Canidae and going through food like it was a water. WE found that we aren’t doing any worse for the cost with call of the wild even though it is more expensive. This is the first week so we’re weaning him over seven days and we have noticed a big difference in how much food he is eating because now he’s getting real nutritional value. I put in 1 cup of the Call of The Wild 1 cup of the Canadae. He no longer eats like he’s starving to death, and there’s still food left in his bowl, which was never the case with Canadae the past 4 months. During this time we also took MaunaKea to his vet for a thorough check up. Which was several hundred dollars. He of course, came out with a clean bill of health, no worms, no anything just a HEALTHY golden retriever. I don’t know how to get through to Canada on an email, but I certainly do hope that you will take note of this and pass it on to the people who should be aware of it. Canidae has left us with a great big disappointment in our lives because we really relied on it. AS a matter of fact when we moved back to Hawaii on the BIG ISLAND where we owned a home they had never heard of it. WE HAD TO ALWAYS SPECIAL ORDER it. BY the time we left years later everybody was coming in and buying it, and they always had it on stock they said it was one of their biggest sellers. Mahalo Antoinette Jackson ... show more
