  • Convenient and easy but has its downsides!
Color: Black
I bought 2 of these a little more than a year ago and have been using them every week since. The audio quality is great and the battery usage is amazing! I did a lot of research before buying (as I do with all my equipment) and I read the user manual so I know the ins-and-outs of the equipment. Since the audio data gets picked up in the mic and recorded in the mic pack, they are amazingly convenient! I have mine set up to limit, auto-adjust the levels and record an additional track at -6dB to ensure I always have a non-peaking track of usable audio. It's fantastic! So I do a sound check before recording, then I start them up and let them do their thing. The ONLY downside with these are that the audio drifts over time. It's pretty noticeable if you are using 2 at once. If you have everything sync'd up at the start of your video they will slowly drift and de-sync themselves over time. The longer the video- the worse it gets. I conducted multiple 30-minute audio/visual tests to see how bad the two devices drifted from one another and not only did they both drift from the camera body audio but one of the LAVs I bought drifts TWICE as much as the other. On average, it is about 8 minutes into a video when my on-screen-personalities begin to have a robotic echo. I tried a multitude of things to try to solve the problem including trying out multiple microSD cards in hopes that the device would be able to write data on certain cards faster and therefore negate the problem and it did help, but it did not solve the problem. After contacting Tascam, I was told the drift is because the mics are not connected to a singular external recording device that has a calibrated timer on it which would regulate both the devices- that since the 2 devices are running independently, the timers are not going to line up while recording and therefore the audio will not line up perfectly. This is due to there being "no way to calibrate the timers to match perfectly without it being connected to another device," I'm not sure how true this is but that is what I was told. To solve the problem, it basically means slating A LOT during recording so you can re-sync the piece multiple times. They really shine when the you're recording in short bursts. They are not impossible to use for longer-form content (and I'd imagine they're very convenient for weddings) but just know this will be your primary headache when using them. I still recommend them, but I never leave out the warning! ... show more

  • Tascam Mini
Color: Black
I've used this device for documentaries, podcasts, and auditions. It takes about 10 minutes to get used to it. The audio sounds great. I've use both lapels and Rode boom mics with this product. Invest in some rechargeable triple A batteries, decent microphones, and gold tip cables to get the full potential of this recorder. ... show more

  • Best Wireless Mics
Color: Black
I have been using these little microphones for quite some time. They are truly wireless because they don't connect to any device via a cable OR a signal. One might say, "Well, you cannot monitor what your recording." This is true, however, these mics are super reliable. I have not missed any audio due to a lost signal or even slight static noise. Great as a backup mic if you use it in conjunction with another mic that is being transmitted or wired. You have to match the audio in post, but with edit software these days, it's so easy to do. I own three of these mics and I think they are the best I have ever used. ... show more

  • Great product. Make sure you understand what you're buying
Color: Black
This is a great product. It has performed wonderfully. However, make sure you understand what you're buying and what you'll need. First of all, it does not come with the required AAA battery. Second of all it needs a micro 32 GB memory card. It will not work with any memory card greater than 32 GB. I have a whole bunch of 128 GB memory cards which this will not use. You need to make sure or buy a 32 GB micro memory card. I bought a 32 GB mini, which is too big, and had to order a micro, so just be sure you're buying a micro memory card and also it can't be more than 32 GB. That being said, 32 GB is more than enough for sound. The sound quality is excellent. ... show more

  • runs for a very long time on 1 triple A battery
Color: Black
Finally picked one of these up when the price dropped to its lowest at 149.99. I learned about this device from a friend who uses them for wedding video recording. I just finished a weekend of use and I am very happy with the result. I used it for about an hr on Saturday and then for several more hours Sunday evening (on the same battery) and it never missed a beat. I did have one minor issue with the files from Saturday which I believe was the result of user error. The files wouldn't directly copy over from the card to a hard drive so I had to import into an editor from the card and export. No data loss. I think this was due to me accidentally turning it off before stopping recording. For reference a zoom h6 recorder will not have the same result if power is lost while recording! The only down side (that is also a positive) is the slider for turning the device on and/off and for starting/stopping recording is sometimes difficult to slide as a result of being designed to not accidentally be done while being worn. If you're thinking about picking one of these up I highly recommend as an additional tool in your arsenal to ensure several sources during live events. ... show more
