Description

The SP 90mm F/2.8 MACRO VC (Model F017) redefines the best in advanced features and succeeds a legacy of superior optical performance. Meticulous craftsmanship is demonstrated in every detail of the exterior design of the newly transformed SP 90mm macro lens. The user can feel it in the exquisitely smooth texture of the metallic barrel. XY-Shift compensation has been newly added to reinforce VC functionality, further improving image stabilization. A high standard of Moisture-Proof and Dust-Resistant Construction has been added to prevent intrusion of dust or water droplets. Highly durable, Fluorine Coating is applied to the top element surface and efficiently prevents condensation of moisture and repels smudge-causing substances. The lens features an optical construction of 14 elements in 11 groups, including one LD (Low Dispersion) and two XLD (extra Low Dispersion) glass elements that in consonance help to control lateral and on-axis chromatic aberrations at a very high level of performance. A Floating System works in tandem with the optical construction to efficiently compensate for inherent aberration changes subject to varying distances. Therefore, this lens ensures seamless and outstanding depictive capabilities across the entire shooting range - close or far. A combination of 2 types of coating - eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular- Dependency) layered on top of BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) - dramatically improves anti-reflection efficiency to deliver flawless, crystal clear images even against harsh beams of sunlight. • Amazing
Style: Nikon
This lens is something, crystal clear, deep colors, super fast autofocus, and very good stabilization when pointed horizontally. Too bad it was discontinued, I'd love to have a newer version of this. Only con is that vibration compensation isn't working very well when pointed downwards.

  • BUY TAP-IN CONSOLE TOO!
Style: Canon
First, if you buy this lens you MUST get the Tamron Tap-in Console. There is a firmware update that corrects issues with slow focusing and improves the VC (Image Stabilization) even further. The lens will still work without the Tap-in console and update, but I am suggesting that you buy them together or make plans on purchasing the Tap-In Console as soon as you can. This lens is simply INCREDIBLE. I'm usually a Canon junky, all Canon lenses. However, I decided to finally try a 3rd party lens after being disappointed with the 100mm f/2.8L from Canon. There is a serious benefit to buying from the little guy, they gotta work harder to win your business. This lens is an L quality lens, the glass is sharp, zero chromatic aberrations, zero flare, zero ghosting, incredibly stabilization, and you save $150 for a far superior product. I'm not going to go as far to say Tamron's newer SP series trumps in every focal length, but this 90mm is hands down the only lens that is worth your time and money in the 85mm-105mm range. I will say that I am even considering selling my canon 85mm f/1.8, yes its a faster lens, but the VC (image stabilization) makes up for the f-stop difference. I can shoot at 1/13th shutter speed and have a tack sharp image. While using my Canon 85mm 1.8 I usually have to stay above 1/40-1/60 to be sharp, but might just be a shaky mess to begin with. As far as macro capability, I attached some sample photos, it's important to remember this lens doubles as a portrait lens as well as a 1:1 macro. ... show more

  • I really enjoy shooting this and I think it fills the gap ...
Style: Canon
I'm a hobbyist and using this on a 6D. Overall, I really enjoy shooting this and I think it fills the gap really well between the 24-70's and 70-200's. Pros: - Great construction. It is hefty but not heavy, - The body feels durable and doesn't scuff or show finger prints easily - The buttons/switches are tactile and securely snap into position. - Minimum Focusing distance allows for great Macro-ish shots. - "Vibration Control" is probably the best that I have in all my gear, including; my red rings. - Auto Focusing is fast and quiet. Manual focusing is incredibly smooth. Cons: - Focusing can wander and the AF distance switch can be a hassle. I've found myself manually adjusting to get close in darker situations and then using back button to "check" or correct. - The lens hood and cap don't have enough clearance, so I find myself knocking off the cap when trying to remove the hood (minor inconvenience). ... show more

  • A superb macro lens, and a detailed (albeit somewhat narrow-aperture) portrait lens.
Style: Nikon
*** UPDATE A fantastic macro lens, unmatched in its sharpness and bokeh rendering, plus Tamron's sleek new SP housing. As far as I'm concerned, this entire SP lineup is entirely consistent in overall quality and resolving power. Well done! *** However, those looking to pull "double duty" with this lens, as I was, by shooting a lot of (or mostly) portraits with this- even though it does shoot nice, sharp portraits, this is not a great choice for medium-long distance "wide open" portraiture. Reason being, that by virtue of its engineering and design (and true of all macro lenses), the aperture is not actually a constant f/2.8 throughout the focal range. As you focus on objects further than the sub 3" or so range, the minimum aperture narrows. Thanks to the helpful community here, I've since learned this is not a trait unique to this lens, or Tamron in general, but macro lenses across the board. Being a portrait photographer, I wasn't hip to this fact, so I was misguided in my initial disappointment in this lens. Thank you all for helping educate me in this regard. I appreciate it, and I'm happy to update my review for a more fair and educated look at this great lens. Cheers! ... show more

  • I love this lens, but the packaging was lacking to say the least.
Style: Canon
I've used this lens before i bought it here, and it's a shame they discontinued it, but i understand the reason, since canon decided to stop producing DSLR and focusing on mirrorless. Anyway this lens is amazing, especially at this price point, my issue though was the packaging, how can you ship this internationally with just a little bit of bubble wrap? like if you are going to use bubble wrap at least use more than 2 layers of it, i think i was extremely lucky the lens arrived in good condition, because the way it was packaged was really lacking for something as delicate as a camera lens, especially for international shipping, I didn't want to give this lower than 5 stars because of how much i like this lens, but you seriously have to do a better job packaging this kind of stuff. ... show more
