Description

Capture the power and beauty of wild animals, birds, travel destinations, and exciting sports action close-ups with this high-performance 150-600mm long- range zoom. Tamron's proprietry VC (Vibration Compensation) and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) technologies enable you to shoot crisp images of fast-moving, distant subjects handheld, whilst Tamron's advanced optical technology and special coatings work to suppress flare and ghosting for impressively clear and vibrant images. In addition, three LD (Low Dispersion) elements are effectively deployed to correct chromatic aberrations, a challenging problem when shooting at long distances and at long focal-length settings. The SP 150-600mm features Tamron's new eBand coating technique; a nano-structured layer (1nm = 1/1,000,000mm) of ultra-low refractive index, with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible rays of light. This nano-structured layer coupled with the sophisticated multiple layer coatings underneath, produces significant anti-reflection properties, efficiently reducing undesired flare and ghosting to an absolute minimum to deliver sharp, crisp images.

Style: Nikon
This lens does what I need it to without any major issues, wide open it is a little soft at 600mm even after fine tuning the lens to my bodies, stepped down to F/8 it does just fine, colors and contrast are fine, auto focus works well for all but the fastest subjects, my copy doesn't like 3D tracking though, it's more than enough for what I need until I get better and can justify a better lens ... show more

  • ok for hobbyists
Style: Canon
It was to be my BIF lens. I had been shooting a Canon 100-400l which is a good lens but I was looking for more reach. The Tamron gave me more reach but the images were soft on longer than 400-450 mm shots. So i returned it. The auto focus was sufficient but not as fast as the Canon. I would have kept it if not for the fact that I do like to sell some of my images so I need sharp. If you are just looking for a lens for recreational/hobby wildlife shooting this will be a good lens for you. Hard to beat the price ... show more

  • Beware, AF problems with this lens
Style: Nikon
I bought this lens back in April. Out of the box the lens was great. As noted, somewhat soft at 600mm but none the less a good lens. However, in August, the autofocus stopped working. I called Beach Camera. Initially they wanted nothing to do with my concern but "allowed" me to speak with a tech. He suggested turning off the AF and IS, disconnect the lens, remount it and turn the AF and IS on. He also suggested cleaning the contacts which I thought was pretty strange for a relatively new lens. Well, the first fix worked...for about 20 shots. Tried disconnecting the lens and again it worked for about 40 shots. I called Tamron, and of course they told me to ship the lens, at my expense, to them. They explained it may be a firmware problem. Finally, I said to hell with this and called Amazon. They authorized a return to Beach Camera. They promptly refused the return because of the "45 day" limit on returns and sent the lens back to me. I called Amazon back and guess what? I got a complete refund on the lens. And the lens? It's somewhere between NJ and AZ. I bought the lens before moving to Washington State so Beach sent the lens back to the AZ address on the Amazon label...and that's a whole other story. ... show more
