Description

Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC is the first All-in- One Zoom For Sony NEX cameras by Tamron. This striking new 11X zoom provides greatly enhanced shooting flexibility with Sony NEX APS-C-format mirrorless compact interchangeable-lens cameras, including the NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-5, and NEX-5N, providing equivalent focal lengths from 27mm wide-angle to 300mm super telephoto plus macro focusing in an ultra-compact form factor. Incorporating the latest version of Tamron’s acclaimed VC (vibration compensation) system, its advanced optical design and stepping-motor autofocus (AF) drive deliver extraordinary image quality plus seamless AF performance. This extraordinary all-in-one zoom lens covers practically any shooting situation you’ll ever encounter with your mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera. Light, compact, and exquisitely designed, the lens covers the full focal-length range from 18mm wide-angle to 200mm long telephoto (27–300mm equivalent in the 35mm format). This is Tamron’s first high-power zoom lens designed exclusively for Sony’s mirrorless compact camera series. Stepping Motor Stepping Motor 18-200mm Di III's autofocus mechanism uses a stepping motor that is an ideal match for the Contrast-detection AF system used in Sony’s NEX series cameras. The stepping motor’s actuator allows finely tuned control of angular rotation, and since it drives the focusing mechanism directly without an intermediate reduction gear, it also provides superbly quiet performance. You can count on this to enhance autofocus capability when shooting video. Furthermore, after adjusting with the AF mechanism, you can use the Direct Manual Focus (DMF) function for delicate adjustments to the image. In short, you can capture the scenes you want focused exactly as you want them every time.Light & CompactA brilliant match for today’s mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, the pleasingly small, lightweight 18-200mm VC provides all the advanced technologies you need to take your photography to the next level. Its impressive 18–200mm, high power zoom range can take in everything from casual close-ups to telephoto action images. Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization lets you capture sharper photos handheld in practically any light. The more you use this lens, the more you’ll want it by your side while you’re strolling around town or heading out on longer journeys. Get closer to your world and capture it in vibrant images with the extraordinary 18-200mm VC.Top-Quality ImagesThe 18-200mm VC gives you sharp, clear images no matter what you’re shooting. Tamron's expertise of high-power zoom technology developments are distilled into this innovative long-range compact lens. The optical design includes an array of specialized glass elements that overcome aberrations, resulting in crisp, flawless images. You can capture all the beauty of every moment you encounter with this superlative lens.Design & ColourThe lens’s polished design and professional metal finish come together in a compact package that is fashionable, ergonomic, supremely portable, and easy to use. With this lens on your camera you’ll be ready to capture your world in breathtaking images, just as you see it. Choose from black or silver models to match your camera body. With this unique design Tamron has achieved a perfect balance of technological excellence, elegance, and picture-taking fun. Low Dispersion Glass Low Dispersion Glass (LD)Low dispersion (LD) glass elements within the lens help reduce chromatic aberration, i.e. the tendency of light of different colours to come to different points of focus at the image plane. Chromatic aberration reduces the sharpness of an image, but glass with an extremely low dispersion index has less of a tendency to separate (diffract) a ray of light into a rainbow of colours. This characteristic allows the lens designer to effectively compensate for chromatic aberration at the centre of the field (on axis), a particular problem at long focal lengths (the telephoto end of the zoom range), and for lateral chromatic aberration (towards the edges of the field) that often occurs at short focal lengths (the wide-angle end of the zoom range.) Aspherical Lens Elements Aspherical Lens Elements (ASL)This Tamron 18-200mm lens uses several hybrid Aspherical elements and therefore bears the Aspherical designation. The innovative optics deliver exceptional image quality, and at the same time offer remarkable zoom ranges in an extraordinarily compact package. By perfecting the cutting-edge advances for series production, Tamron has virtually eliminated spherical aberration and image distortion from their high-power-zoom series. Through the effective application of Hybrid Aspherical Technology, one lens element can take the place of multiple elements without compromising performance. This is what allows us to produce remarkably compact long-range lenses that deliver a uniformly high level of image quality at all focal lengths and apertures.Internal Focusing System (IF)Internal focusing provides numerous practical benefits to photographers, including a non-rotating front filter ring that facilitates the positioning of polarising and graduated filters, and more predictable handling as the lens length does not change during focusing. Crucially, Tamron’s Internal Focusing (IF) system provides a much closer minimum focusing distance (MFD) throughout its entire focusing range. In addition, IF improves optical performance by minimising illumination loss at the corners of the image field, and helps to suppress other aberrations that become more troublesome at different focusing positions. Vibrations Compensation Vibration Compensation (VC)Tamron’s VC (Vibration Compensation) just got even better. It still offers great handheld and telephoto shots. It still delivers the excellent VC (Vibration Compensation) stable viewfinder image, and excellent traceability. It’s still based on a moving three-coil mechanism that activates the lens group electromagnetically through three steel balls. But technology must evolve. Previously, the heavy magnet was positioned near the lens element and worked very well in this placement. In the new VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, we’ve reversed the positioning of the magnet and connected the lens to the coils. This innovative new position thus achieves less load on the drive and combined with lighter coils, contributes to a lighter, more efficient lens. Shake can ruin your photos, particularly when taking telephoto shots or shooting in low light conditions. Simply flip the VC switch on and you'll notice the difference immediately. • Excellent lens.
*: Black
After owning almost every Sony lens, I was hesitant to buy this Tamron, I'm glad I did, it is way better than the Sony 18-200, smaller, lighter, better color and picture quality and better price too. I have been complicating my life changing lenses on the go, not anymore.

  • Great all around lens!
*: Black
Really like this lens. Takes care of what two lenses from Sony normally accomplish. Pretty much use this lens all the time. Only downside is weight, but that is the same issue for a lot of lenses like this.

  • Great performer on all fronts.
*: Black
Drag 10 lbs of camera lenses halfway across the world and end up only using one of them. Swapping out lenses in a crowded open air market is not practical. On our recent cruise to Spain and Italy, I found that the 18-200mm reach of this lens allowed me closeups, scenic shots, architectural studies, and lots of low light museum photographs. I started the vacation swapping out appropriate lenses for the shots I was taking, but after a couple of days, this lens pretty much stayed on my camera the whole trip. It never really "pops" like some more restrictive lenses that are better at a few things, but through the whole 18-200mm you get good solid contrast, saturation and clarity. The pictures I've submitted with this review show the reach, light performance and saturation that I obtained on a cloudy day with a Sony A7 II. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Great Buy for the Sony NEX-5r
*: Black
The quality of the pictures are the same as the Sony lenses. Reason for the 5 stars is that you can carry a single lens to cover the 18-200mm range. Decently weighted to give you a solid feel. Unlike Sony lenses, when zooming the lend had a very rough feel to it. Could be a con for dinner people. Compared to the Sony kit lens (18-50 mm), when switching on the camera, the camera takes a slightly longer time to start up. Don't know if its a software issue with the tamron lens or just a hardware issue of the lens. Sometimes when completely zoomed out (close to the 200mm) end the camera just refuses to focus on the object that is zoomed into. This is when the camera is in the "Intelligent Shooting Mode". These are my observations so far. Even if some of my observations are cons I would still but and use this lens as it is an awesome convenient product to use and costs much less than Sony's own 18-200mm lens. ... show more

  • Convenient, but...
*: Black
Purchased this to replace the two stock lens for my A6000. Much easier to carry around and the nice thing of not having to replace one lens with the other also avoids the chance of dust getting onto the sensor (which had created annoying dark spots which I didn't notice until after trips.) Zoom range is comparable to the stock lens. Speed is a bit slower but acceptable. One thing buyer be aware is that avoid shooting buildings or any square/rectangle objects at its maximum angle, especially do not try to fill the frame - you *will* see annoying barrel effect. If you just use the center portion of the frame, or zoom in a bit, then the barrel effect become negligible. So obviously there's a trade-off between convenience and picture quality. For me, it's more important not to carry multiple lenses. When you know what it's good for and what's not, you can probably make good use of this lens. ... show more

  • Awesome all-purpose lens for the price!
*: Silver
This lens works great for all general purpose pics. With one kid in sports and another learning how to walk, I needed a good lens that could take telephoto shots while also allowing me to take portraits and close ups with having to change lenses all the time. This lens does just that. It is a little bigger than the stock lens, but it appears to be a slightly bit smaller than the Sony 18-200mm lens. It looks awesome on the camera though and doesn't add too much additional bulk. ... show more

  • Super Price for A Great Lens CAN NOT BE SERVICED
*: Black
UPDATE Sep 2020. The lens died early this year. Tamron service was closed due to COVID. I got through today and learned that Tamron will not service this lens. I knew they would not do warranty work but thought they would do repairs. NO NO Now I have a paper weight. I received my lens two weeks ago. I have taken over 300 pictures with it. Other then it being a bit heavier then my 55-210 I would not go back to a two lens system. The pictures look as good as with regular lens and the telephoto. Sharp and clear. I have not noticed any problem with it focusing. Another reviewer mentioned the grinding sound/feel when it is extended and retracted. I found the same thing, but within just a few pictures it was gone. Now the zoom in and out is smooth, and takes little effort. There is an included lens shade that works very nicely. The no american warrenty is not a problem. In almost 50 years I can not remember having a lens that broke or stopped working and had to be returned or fixed. No complaints, nothing but praise. UPDATE I have now had the lens for about a month. I do not notice the weight at all, and it is a real joy not having to carry two lenses. The zoom feature is now very smooth. One thing I have not had to use is the lens lock since it has never self extended while being carried. I have now taken well over 500 pictures and most look very sharp and clear (the duds were my fault with camera settings). I have this mounted on a Sony Alpha A6000. The Sony camera and the Tamron lens is a perfect combination if you want a light weight DSLR with plenty of features and ease of use. I would give it 6 stars if I could. ... show more
