My son has started using a diffuser in his room and has specifically asked for vanilla. Tonight he brought this in and had me smell it and then said "I wasn't sure I'd like it when I first smelled it because it smells like a sugar cookie but oh my gosh my room smells great". So off we all trooped to smell his room and it does. I think if you open this bottle and take a good whiff of the smell it will be sweet and a little bit not vanilla-y. (How do you describe a smell?) However , if you use it along with something else or you diffuse it, the smell is lovely. Just received this in the mail. Immediately opened it up to smell, not expecting too much. By golly, this smells a lot like real vanilla! In fact, I went into the kitchen to compare it to my VERY expensive Tahitian vanilla extract (which has doubled in price since I bought it), and this smells like a syrupy sweet version of that. I'm pleasantly surprised, having recently received a couple 'pure and unadulterated vanilla essential oil' products that smell nothing like Tahitian or Madagascar vanilla, or vanillin, for that matter. Of course, as I hope you know, there is no such thing as vanilla >essential oil< (only an >absolute< that is usually diluted with a carrier oil) and it is very expensive, so at least this company does not claim to be anything other than a >fragrance oil<. Well, this is one of the few fragrance oils I've ever smelled that even comes close to the real thing. I'm glad, because I ordered 3 other of their fragrance oils; waiting to check out how they smell. ... show more

I love vanilla so much and this is amazing. I like to mix this with the gardenia scent from the same brand and they go great together. I sometimes add too much of the vanilla and it can smell a little too sweet for my taste so adding the gardenia makes it a fresher smell. I would love to make homemade soap with this. also, a great tip is to add a few drops to the bristles on your vacuum so when you clean it makes the whole house smell great and helps clear away musty carpet smells. ... show more

This has a nice if artificial scent. More vanilla sugar cookie that straight vanilla. It's pleasant but if you are looking for a accurate vanilla smell maybe pass it up.

Its smells so good you would want to it eat (please dnt lol). I used it to make body butter, only with a few drops and that was enough. Lost the top of the butter for a few days and the scent never left!
