  • Cool beans finder scope
Reveiw from a new amature astronomer Pros-cheep and reliable, looks cool. Once you zero it it stays so long as ya dont blugeon your telescope. Has a standard foot thingy to put on your telescope so thats nice. The 6x magnifacation is perfect for finding things and it has ok field of view. i also realy like the covers so that dust dont get in their. I like to use this thrigh one eye + my perifrial vision to look for stuff, its quite effective! To line it up with yer telescope just find somethin far away, point yer telescope at it so that the object is in the center of the view in yer eyepiece and use the screws on the finder scope holder thing to line the crosshair with thr object. cons- focusing it is a bit strange, ya gotta unscrew the red thingy to focus it. Also when ya move your head around the crosshair moves around but its ok once ya get used to it, ya need it t just find the star/space thingy and get its general location anyways so it ok. overall a cool beans finder scope! ... show more

  • I could not be happier with this finder scope
I wanted something better than the red dot finder that was included with my Celestron NexStar 8SE scope, and took a chance on this one. I'm very happy with it, and it is far better to use than the red dot because it has some decent magnification. I really like being able to line my stars up in the crosshairs. That gives me much better accuracy in aiming. A bit of advice: It comes with a rubber or neoprene O-ring. After you've mounted it, make sure you slide the O-ring back inside the mounting bracket. This provides important tension in the front area to keep the scope from wiggling around. There weren't any instructions about doing this, but it seemed obvious to me after a few moments. I just pushed it into the mount with my fingers without the need for any tools. The red ring is a jam or locknut to screw up against the back of the front lens barrel to keep it in place after you've focused it. Again, just finger tight and you're done. No problems. Elegantly simple. I really like the looks of this scope as well. It stands off the top of the main scope a couple of inches, and makes it easier to look into it from the rear. No need to put your cheek against the telescope barrel. The image is upside down, of course, because this is basically a small refractor scope. The image in my Celestron is right-side up, but I found no problem with this. The optics are quite good for this low price, and frankly, I wouldn't want any more magnification than I'm already getting. It's easy to spot the place in the sky you want to aim your main scope, and that's just what is needed. As I said, I could not be happier with this finder. It's a great balance of price and function. I would buy it again for any other scope I might buy in the future. If you own one of the Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain scopes, and are still using the supplied red dot finder, you need to get this little baby. Like me, you'll be very pleased with the upgrade! This is my fourth purchase of Svbony astro products, including a 2" 70 degree 25mm lens that I just love, and their SV205 telescope camera. I'm very impressed with their quality, and it's hard to beat their prices. ... show more

  • Great if used by hand
This is not a high quality spotter scope but it is a good one, the big problem is that it does not come with a way to mount it on the telescope. The bracket that I ordered that is supposed to be compatible does not fit the telescope either though it is sold by the same company. Still looking for a solution. ... show more

  • Not a bad product, but quality control issues exist.
Overall, this is a good scope for the money - when it works as designed. I actually bought two, and one of them works fine. On the second one, the threads are cut too loose and the screw does not catch. Since the screw that holds the scope in place does not work, I cannot set the scope. Unfortunately, I did not try to install this scope until a few months after I bought it. By then, it was past Amazon's return policy, and now I'm stuck with a scope that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. ... show more

  • Does the job.
Nice little replacement finder scope that will fit in the mount of my old refractor.

  • Beautiful well made scope BUT - It just will not focus
I rarely write a negative review. The SVBONY 182 scope I received however may have just been a defective copy. I mounted it on an Orion short tune 80mm refractor. It fits very nicely into the wedge mount and looks great. But, it will not focus on stars or the moon. The moon is a blur and stars are fuzzy blobs regardless of how far out or in I turned the back eyepiece. I have other finder scopes ranging from totally junk 5x24 scopes to professional grade 50 and 80mm optical tubes. All are fine. It is not my vision. I am a private pilot, and I know for a fact that my vision is fine. This thing just won't focus. I like SVBONY, and am returning it to exchange it for another SVBONY finder scope. Yes I recommend this scope, but definitely check it out when you first get it to make sure you did not receive a defective lemon copy. Clear Skies and Happy Viewing ! ... show more

  • Terrible focus
To date I still can never get this to focus properly. I pretty much use it to see a blur before looking into the telescope.

  • The lenses in the rear were all loose and rattled!!
The lenses in the rear portion of the scope could be heard rattling around inside the metal tube. The view thru the Finder was very blurry! SvBony products are usually very good quality! I had to return it right away!
