The New International Edition of Suzuki Piano School, Volume 1 includes French, German and Spanish translations performed by internationally renowned recording artist Seizo Azuma. Now the book can be purchased . While the music selections in Volume 1 remain the same as the earlier edition, the spacious new engraving with minimal editing generally keeps only one piece per page. Instruction material in many pieces from Volume 1 has been removed in lieu of right-hand studies at the top of the page and left-hand studies at the bottom. Tempo markings are now included on many pieces. • Great For beginners
I like the basic practice song choices especially Hanchen Klein, Long Long Ago, London Bridges and Twinkle Twinkle. And don't get discouraged! Mr. Suzuki knew full well the difficulty the beginners face. Do not give up. These songs are designed to drill over and over like an all night polka party because they're short and simple. You should choose some bass and treble clef flash card videos online to help expedite you're progress. ... show more

  • Very fine book
As a beginner with only several months of lessons, I am very happy, and challenged, by the music in this book. It's nice to have proven music to play--sometimes a book provides what I call (not disparagingly) kid books. Some of these pieces are not too demanding, some are very demanding. Challenge, of course, is fine in any endeavour, and this book provides it. I'm nearing the end and already have the 2d and 3rd books ready to go. Playing the CD when first having the books was quite intimidating. I knew I'd probably never be able to get through the book. Playing it again when nearing completion of the book is encouraging, in that I now know it is possible to accomplish the feat. Not anywhere near proficiently yet, but my morale is considerably boosted. ... show more

  • Best way to engage younger children in learning keyboard
It's the Suzuki Method, so buying a book by Dr. Yamaha or Dr. Kawasaki or Dr. Honda wouldn't work. The Suzuki method emphasizes learning music just like children learn to speak - by listening and imitating the sounds they hear. No onerous sheet music reading or sight reading - just listening and repeating. If you are trying to engage children under 8 or 9 in music, the Suzuki Method for (insert instrument of choice here) is by far the easiest way to start out. BTW - I am a self-taught and fairly prolific song-writing guitarist/vocalist/pianist and wished I had started this way.... ... show more

  • Good
Pretty basic. Near the end the last couple songs get more difficult. But if you go by Suzuki's method the goal isn't just to play these songs, but listen to the CD daily for a long time, then learn to play them by ear. Next make them beautiful and perfect. I really his book Nurtured by Love by Sinichi Suzuki, it helps you understand him, and the importance of becoming a good person first and then obtaining the ability. I recommend getting the book that includes the CD like this one. I read the reviews and said that the New International book was the best. I thought it was fine. It has about 4 different languauges for the intructions also. ... show more

  • Best Piano Method
I have been teaching the Suzuki piano method for 9 years. It is by far the best piano method available. However, this is not primarily a method; the Suzuki Method is a philosophy of teaching and learning that says: every child can learn in a positive, enriching environment. The pieces in this book are enjoyable to learn and listen to. It comes with a CD which the student listens to each day. ... show more
