Description

The sleek, compact E1B-MV has the broad max vision beam that is optimized for your field of vision with plenty of peripheral illumination. It is designed as an outstanding everyday-carry light for most any application. Click-type switch - partially press tail cap pushbutton for momentary-on high output; press further to click constant-on high. Return to off and press or click again within two seconds for low output. The brilliant 400-lumen high output beam provides a broad max vision beam that is optimized for your field of vision with plenty of peripheral illumination. The lumen low output is perfect for reading a map, checking an ID, or navigating in low light with minimal degradation to your dark-adapted vision. The backup can run at this level for 50 hours, a valuable feature for outdoor or emergency situations. A tough, lightweight mil-spec hard-anodized aluminum body protects the E1B-MV backup's sophisticated electronics, and its smooth contours minimize clothing snag and pressure points. A two-way clip allows head-up or head-down carry.

  • and I had great difficulty paying this much for a small flashlight
These are very expensive lights, and I had great difficulty paying this much for a small flashlight. However, after having it for a month or so, think it is worth the money. Extremely bright, super compact, very high quality, easy to take anywhere - this size is allowed as carry on by TSA and foreign carriers - used it on a flight to Europe recently to help another passenger locate an item dropped between seats, the dim mode is also great when cabin is blacked out at night. The beam radius and light intensity (on bright mode) are far, far beyond normal flashlights. Have several other much less expensive LED lights, and this is far, far better. While expensive, the value seems to be there. ... show more

  • Best flashlight, but not efficient with batteries.
Easily the best flashlight I've ever purchased. I'm a cop, I bought this as a back up, but it so useful it has become my primary light. The beam floods more than beams. Useful distance is about 50-60 yards tops, but it's not so bright you are blinded while searching a car. The only negative is... this little dude eats batteries. I put a new battery in every shift and a half on average, but I have had to change it twice in the same 12 hour shift before. ... show more

  • Typical Surefire High Quality. Great EDC Light!!
Very small, very tough light. I'm pretty sure this one is smaller than the original E1B Back Up. The body is knurled though, the original E1B was smooth. This one feels more grippy for sure. I love the beam on this. Lots of bright spill, very different from the tight white throwy spot most surefire lights have. If you don't like spill, don't get this light. For my purposes, it has plenty of useful throw as well. The low setting is pretty low, great for close up work or preserving night vision as much as possible, but very, very little throw on the low setting. I don't love the tail cap switch and the light is head/bezel heavy, kinda out of balance feeling. I think the tail switch is a bit too easy to engage. It has a very soft feel. I carry this in my front right jeans pocket and I twist it a quarter turn so it won't push on in my pocket and drain the battery. I do not like that the switch engages so easily, but it isn't a deal breaker. The pocket clip is the same as on the other Back Up models. I don't love it, feels a bit thin and flimsy, but it does the job. I would never trust a $199 light clipped to my pocket with it though. This light will last forever and is tough as nails. Typical Surefire rugged quality. I would buy another and recommend this one. You can trust it's toughness, durability, and reliability and that's what you need in a flashlight, especially if you are only carrying the one. The small size makes it very easy to EDC in a jeans or jacket pocket unless you wear very tight pants. I've heard people say, "Buy once, cry once." This light is very pricey, but it'll be the last one you ever buy or need and you'll likely pass it down to your kids as well. It's going to last. ... show more

  • Best Quality, Reliable
My Every Day Carry. Bought it for tactical and reading. Been wanting this for 2 years. I have had problems with other brands that are popular. Never ever had a problem with Surefire. Expensive. Well made in the USA. First click is always 400 lumens. That is a must for me to surprise an attacker, blind him and escape. Power outages and cyber attacks are predicted. I will use the very high quality 5 lumens for reading if we have an outage. The quality of light is far superior to the other brands (olight, lumintop, Fenix). PROS: Durable and reliable Not Rechargeable Takes 1 123A battery Lasts 50 hours on 5 lumens Light is excellent quality Very durable and reliable Tail cap is easy to click on and off CONS: A bitch to remove the flashlight from packaging. :( Conclusion: No one flashlight does everything. This gives me bright light when I occasionally need it and the low 5 lumens for most of the time. HAPPY ... show more

  • Worth it if you can afford it.
The E1B-MV arrived today in the original packaging. I've been planning on buying this little light for a long time. It has the exact features I want: Super bright when needed, but a dim light feature that saves battery life and doesn't blind one when using it to read or other similar activities. Also nice and small (WAY smaller than my Surefire Defender 6P), Surefire lights are crazy expensive compared to the similar ones you can buy at the counter at your local auto parts store - but the Surefires continue working LONG past when the $9.95 ones die. My 6P is now at least 12 years old and works like new. ... show more

  • Solid light, wide bright beam
Purchased as a smaller option to an E2D LED Defender two cell for EDC. I carried it for several months and while I liked the smaller size, the wide beam wasn't really what I was after when using it for work, and I've switched back to the E2D as a primary carry light.

  • Runtime on high is very short
I have a few issues with this light. 1. Main main issue is that the runtime specs list 1.25 hours, but it runs down a brand new battery quicker than that and after around 28 mins it starts to flicker and gets very hot too. I have tested the runtime on high twice using new US made CR123 batteries and others have reported the exact same issue on Internet forums (such as CPF). 2. Pushing 400 lumens out of a small light light like this taxes the battery way too much, 200 lumens, for 2 hours would have made more sense. The current draw also exceeds the safety limit on these cells. 3. The protruding tailcap makes it possible to accidentally turn on in your pocket, although purchasing a separate Z68 tailcap solves this issue. 4. The MaxVision beam although nice, I would have preferred a TIR lens for a more focused beam. ... show more

  • Surefire is the best PERIOD
I’m a true flashaholic. These Backups are the best AMERICAN made light out there. As per usual they are not cheap but well worth it. I’m a heavy user of this and other lights. There haven’t been many problems but when I call the factory in California they always get me full satisfaction. FREE OF CHARGE. I won’t buy any other brand. ... show more
