  • They work, but not without a little help.
These are well made but the mounting holes are overly large. Bolt head slips right thru the 1/2” hole for 6mm (1/4”) bolts. I took some 1/4” ID, 1/2” OD rubber fuel line and cut 1/4” “bushings” to fill holes and center the bolt, then used a large washer under the head. I also saved the vinyl trim covers and cut slots in them and installed over the brackets to keep crud out of the trim space. If you have a Honda Element you’ll know what I mean. ... show more

  • Best Roof Rack Brackets For an Element
Bought a used Element and needed to outfit it for adventure. Roof rack for kayaks and gear was a must. Researched all my options including the factory Honda rack, but decided on Surco, which allows a much wider than OEM crossbars. On top of that, these brackets are more than beefy enough for what I'm going to throw at them. I have read the negative comments here and elsewhere, but I have to give these five stars. Buying a few bolts, or customizing the crossbars a little are just par for the course when putting together a custom rack. One of the reasons I looked to Surco for an Element rack, is that I have had their 84" safari rack on my 01 Excursion for 6 years and it has been bulletproof ! ... show more

  • Not vehicle specific
I wanted to see how well these would work for a project I'm working on. But I wasn't all that happy with the diameter of the holes, a lot bigger than the intended bolt. Also, the hardware is cheap to tighten enough. The bottom bracket also much smaller than I wish, and for the price I would've wanted something more specific for the honda element. ... show more

  • Strong mounts, no instructions
Very strong mounts. 3 holes in the mount, 3 tapped holes on the car, yet only 2 screws per mount in the box. Come on, how hard would it be to add 4 more screws and washers. The Aluminum pieces that insert in the crossbars did not fit. Had to take a file to them to take off about 1/16" to get it to fit. If you want to modify the caps to work with these mounts, be prepared to get creative and do some grinding. Good mounts, just a bit of a pain to install. ... show more

  • Weak bolts
The bolts included are GARBAGE! Snapped the head off of one tightening it by hand with a screw driver. Also what ever idiot thought it was a good idea to use bolts with a Philips head should be fired. The mounts are great but I definitely recommend going to your local parts store and getting grade 5 or higher hex head bolts. I don't want my $4k bike flying off the roof because or a weak bolt breaking. ... show more

  • used on honda element
crossbar lugs were too big for thule areo bar. I used thick washers instead. Used dremel to cut slots in cover plugs, make them a little larger so it will slide on easier. without coverplugs it leaves big hole for leaves and such to gather. I burned up 3 titanium drill bits making holes for anchor points for the rachet straps. Use carbide bits. Home Depot had nice chrome anchor points for rachet straps. ... show more
