Each block of this product expands exceedingly once mixed with water. It's really quite impressive to watch! Expect to get several gallons of expanded coir from this package!! These are quite coarse coir chips though. You might grow orchids in this, but it wouldn't be ideal for starting vegetable seedlings (for instance) unmixed with any other media. It could provide some nice aeration however in an all-purpose potting mix, when blended with fine coir and perlite. Overall I highly recommend this coconut coir. It's a fantastic medium that I prefer above peat moss, primarily because it is not acidic like peat moss is. I'd recommend it! ... show more

The trick to using smaller sections of these bricks is to dunk the part you want to use in water, wait 30 seconds or so for it to absorb water and expand, then snap that section off by hand with a back and forth bending motion. These have larger chunks than compared to coco coir, which have finer separation of the fibers. Good for top mulching, bottom layering or mixing with potting soil, but probably not something I would use on its own. ... show more

I use this in my container garden and my plants love it. it's great on the bottom or top of your plants. It's great for retaining moisture and aeration in the soil. I love the texture of it so much because it looks cool. This is also great for rabbit and chameleon habitats.

This coco coir arrives pressed in bricks, making it easy to store. I used it to replant 2 small orchids and did not want to hydrate an entire brick to do so, so I scored the surface with a knife, cut about 1/4 inch through the surface of the brick on each side, and then was able to break off 1/4 of the brick with my hands. That amount was perfect for my project. The coir is a good size nugget to facilitate drainage while still holding moisture. Some red coloring from the coir will drip through on the watering tray (at least initially), but there is no odor and I did not find it to cause splinters or cuts while handling. Clean up was easy after hydrating and I’m really happy with the results! ... show more

Love, love, love the smell of the coco husks! I like that this comes in 3 handy packages as I use the husks for a variety of tasks. One package will expand to fill in my outside landscaping for a small flower bed. Another package will be used in the Spring when I plant my vegetable garden. The third package is for inside house-plant health. These packages expand to a large quantity. Used with water they will not mold. Very healthy option for the gardener. ... show more

I really like the dehydrated packing of these coco husk. They are so much easier to carry and store without being too heavynor taking up too much space. I also really like to watch these things as expand... how this small pack expands to fill my container. Although these packs are relatively small, the portion yielded too much for my first use. Only if there is a way to break off chunks... I may try that with the next batch. I've now used this first batch ad substrate for indoor potted plants, as topdressing/mulch for other outdoor container plants, and mixed into soil as amendments for the garden. ... show more

I used these coconut husk chips from the SUMLOTY store as a mulch for my container-grown trees. The product arrived as three compacted bricks, but they hydrated quickly in water.
