  • Should have bought these a long time ago
This is Katherine's husband. Having one of these tools will save you alot of headaches and swearing when removing and reinstalling the valve springs in a small engine. Without this tool, you can certainly remove them alot easier than reinstalling but, once you use it, you too will wish you bought one just as I did. soooo nice! Dan ... show more

  • It did not work for what I wanted but I think it works great for it's intended purpose
The spring compressor is well made, strong and I feel would work perfectly for it's real purpose. I tried to use it to compress a spring on an automobile rear disc brake emergency brake system. The spring involved was too compressed to allow me to fit the arms into the spring tor further compression so I could get a misaligned cable straightened out. I'm keeping the tool because I no doubt that it will come in handy sometime in the future. ... show more

  • Tool not even usable upon arrival!!!
I would give this tool a 5* if it had not come messed up. I have a motor on the table torn down waiting to take the springs & valves out, all I needed was this tool. I got it & was ready to get to work. As you can see, one of the legs is welded backwards and I'm not able to grip the springs and hold them down enough to release the retainers...soooo very frustrating for a $32 tool. Even in the frustration, I have used these compression tools in the past and I prefer them over other types of spring compressors. I just wish I had gotten one that was actually usable. ... show more

  • Quality tool
Have not had a chance to use it. Took too long to get it, so I did the valve job using a different tool. This tool looks well built and may be the only tool to fit into some of those tight areas where other tools are useless. I tool to have in the box when you need it.

  • Tool worked
This tool worked on a tecumseh 4hp with a bit of convincing. Not as easy as I expected, but would have been nearly impossible to get valve springs back in without it. I would buy again to avoid the frustration of trying to get them installed without it

  • Awsome tool
This tool works excellent I used it to change the valves on a 1930 Model A. It's surpassed the one purchased just for model A's as this is the only one that allows you to get to the keepers easily.

  • Perfect for small engine work
This tool is something I should have gotten ages ago. Working on small engines with very tight access to valve springs....this tool worked perfectly to remove and install springs. The tool held the springs securely and compressed them completely to allow installation of keepers and clips with needlenose pliers. I only wish I had bought it sooner. ... show more

  • Try to find an older briggs unit
Not a great tool. Cheaply made and is difficult to use. Did the job but required some modification to get it to slide over the spring retainers.
