So far, I assembled the tank with my 7-year-old son. It would have been helpful if there were labels for "4mm" and "6mm" screws in the parts diagram. I was able to scan through the instructions and notice the "6mm" in a later instruction, so not that big a deal, but I could see people having trouble with that and using the wrong size. Another potential problem was mounting the battery pack - it's not clear from the instructions where the exact location should be, and initially I was thinking one row forward until I thought to check the fit with a battery in it. And I can see the flat piece (that connects the barrel) breaking from fatigue if he keeps bending it to adjust the barrel position... maybe a pre-bent part would reduce that? Also, it would be helpful to have the pictures of the finished projects on the front of the instructions (so they can be seen without opening the packets). That would help with picking which project to do (I wound up bringing up the product page on Amazon to show my son what each one would look like. But I like how the pieces have lots of extra holes. I don't think my son would be there yet, but I could imagine combining pieces from different kits to improve functionality. ... show more

This STEM kit contains five individual robots each one of which when assembled is powered differently. The kit comes with a magnetic tipped screwdriver to aid in the use of the very small screws when assembling. The first one we address the one which requires AA batteries to operate which are not included—a remote control car with big paste on eyes. It took an hour to assemble but the wire was very tenuous and kept detaching easily. We got it to work. Overall, these make for a fun project. Not suitable for 4-6 year old to assemble or use owing to many very small parts and a single 4x5 page of cryptic instructions. A 7-9 year old would probably have difficulty with the instructions absent adult help. Even some adults will have difficulty. Probably ok for 8-10 year old, except that parts look fragile and not the best build quality. Still, a 7-9 year old could enjoy putting the kits together and running them with the help of a reasonably tech-savy adult. Contents include 5 kits, so lot's to do and play with, but these are quite small and fragile. ... show more

This arrived in a nice colorful box. It states it takes 30-60 minutes to assemble and it is for ages 6 and up. I think this would be a good project for kids with patience, who like to get into a project. I would think it best suited for kids aged 8-11, depending on how much the parent wants to be involved in the build. Very cool, and educational for kids. Our six year old Grandson follows his tinkerer Dad closely as he works on his endless to-do projects. Always wants to help, but sometime Dad needs his space. We got this today and my son immediately opened it and built the tank. It comes with 5 different ones to build, and they are all individually packaged with each having their own set of instructions. It took him maybe 30 to 40 minutes to build by himself and he enjoyed every minute of it and has been playing with the tank since then. Also 4 out of 5 builds do require 2 AA batteries for them to work, the 5th on is solar powered. If you have a child that loves to build and visually see how things work, these are a great item!! ... show more
