I wanted to add a seamless transitional monitor to my desktop. I wasn't sure if I just needed a VGA splitter (NOT!), and ended up looking for a reasonable adaptor. I did a search for the best for what I was looking for and this one was in the top ten (#2). I plugged it in and fired up the PC, and BAM, it was already recognizing 2 monitors. A simple "extend monitor" setting adjustment and I was working more efficiently. No messy driver additions. If you have all of the other related hardware, this adapter will get you up and running with a 3 screen/monitor system. I have a MSI graphics card with the Radeon AMD 7770 chip. It's getting harder and harder to keep up with all the possible incarnations that can result from one chip being offered on so many different graphics cards. There are several different versions of the MSI Radeon HD7770 card alone. My MSI card has one full size DisplayPort, one HDMI and a DVI-D out. So three total outputs (and you will use all 3 for the 3 screen Eyefinity set up). You can do HDMI to HDMI for one monitor, DVI-D to DVI-D for another, and this StarTech adapter from the DisplayPort out on the graphics card to the VGA cable that attaches to the VGA input on your monitor. This set up assumes that each of your 3 monitors have one HDMI input, one DVI-D input, and a VGA input. I'm using three of the Asus VS247H-P monitors. Thin bezel, good price, excellent reviews and all three of the listed inputs. You will need the most current drivers and AMD software that supports Eyefinity to get up and running without too much pain. So this is a good adapter at a fair price that will work with the Eyefinity three display set up for monitors without DisplayPort inputs. ... show more

Prior to receiving the device and just based on the product research, I was not positive this unit work for my setup (Samsung Galaxy S9 into HDMI projector) or it might fail early due to cheap material. The overall construction seems solid, although I naturally baby my electronics, e.g. no cord stresses. I have used it to for 26 hours on 12 non-continuous occasions and have not had a performance issue. The USB C connection should be non-specific as to orientation (there is no "right-side-up" in USB C), but I upon last use a connection was made only when flipping the connector 180-degrees. Note that I wirelessly charge my phone so this USB-to-HDMI device is the one and only device I plug into this slot, again, without any cord or connection stress. I have a Dell 4600M, which is a high end laptop. There is a flaw with this machine. The VGA port does not seem to be compatible with most projectors. I work at a large company and everyone with this laptop has the same problem. I've tried changing drivers and spent a lot of time on the phone with Dell to no avail. I decided to try projecting from the DisplayPort rather than VGA port via this StarTech adapter. It has worked great for me. I've used it on 6 different projectors and it has worked on all of them. The only negative I see is that the product is advertised to handle up to 1920x1200 resolution. I'm only given an option to display at max of 1280x1024 when I link to a projector. I'm not sure if it's a limitation of the cable, projector or laptop. But the 1280x1024 is sufficient and gives a nice clear image on the projector. This DisplayPort to VGA Adapter works perfectly allowing me to connect 2 monitors to my desktop computer and view a different image on each screen at the same time. Sometimes I will do work on one monitor and have a movie playing, or a music video, or news, etc. on the other monitor. I love working with 2 monitors so I can access 2 different applications or 2 different web pages at the same time while transitioning smoothly from one screen to another. I can use the same cordless mouse and move from the screen on my left to the one on my right and vice-versa without interruption. I was not able to find this item in any electronic store in my area, so ordering it online was my only option. Arrived in 2 days and works perfectly.
