  • Unfortunately, it takes a $165 adapter card to support 2 m.2 M-key drives!
Style: 2x M.2 NVMe
I got this adapter card only after 2 other cards failed me - one for only $15 & one for $40. This card, for $165, was the only one of the 3 that worked! The reviewers of these cheaper cards said that you need to change something in your computer's BIOS/UEFI to get them to work properly. NO!!! The only thing that the UEFI does for you is to allow you to run a self-test. The $15 card didn't work at all, & the $40 card would only recognize 1 out of 2 m.2 M-key drives. This card works right out of the box, which makes me wonder - why can't these other manufacturers make a card that works for half the price? ONLY RECOMMENDED if you need to install 2 additional m.2 M-key drives in your computer. ... show more

  • Works well with ubuntu server 22.04
Style: 2x eSATA | 2x SATA
I needed a port multiplier ESATA card for my supermicro server running ubuntu 22.04. I put the card in the chassis and hooked up my HDD enclosure. At boot time all the hard drives showed up and worked perfectly. I have also hot swapped a drive and that worked fine. I am running a ZFS raid thru the card and there doesn't seem to be any issues ... show more

  • Works great
Style: 1x M.2 NVMe
Easy install and just works. Even better, it provides lossless data transfer rates for an m.2!!! My EVO 970 is getting around 3500mb/s just like direct main board install.

  • Instant 3x read and write speed increase on Maximus VII Hero/970 Evo Plus - 830 MB/s to 3200 MB/s
Style: 1x M.2 NVMe
I recently learned that the M.2 slot on my old Maximus VII Hero motherboard was bottlenecking the performance of the 970 Evo Plus M.2 SSD I had installed. I was only getting 832 MB/s with the M.2 installed directly on the motherboard. I bought this bad boy and installed my OS drive on it (literally one screw- super easy). To my surprise, my system booted right up with no need to modify any boot settings in the BIOS. Once I got it started up- I ran another speed test via Samsung Magician... My SSD is now operating at 3267 MB/s. It's criminal that I didn't know about this sooner! For anyone who was unable to upgrade your system due to shortages- this breathes new life into an old motherboard like mine! Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Way faster with Mac Pro 5,1 than expected > 1500 MB/s
Style: 2x M.2 NVMe
I'm using with 2 Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 (which are fully Mac compatible), plus heat sinks which you need for cMP 5,1. I didn't realize that it would be faster than 1500 MB/s, which is the theoretical limit on these PCI 2 machines for 4 lanes, but this is 8 lane. It's blazingly fast and also my machine boots from this drive - I'm on Big Sur running Radeon Pro VII. I do not use raid because this is mission critical stuff. First slot is used for OS drive the second slot is used for project drive for DaVinci Studio and Premiere Pro. DaVinci is now so fast that I can have noise reduction, glow and film grain and plays back full speed - database and cashe on second NVME drive. So this card really is 8 lane so put in a x16 slot - hope this answers some questions... ... show more

  • Working flawlessly for my FreeNAS
Style: 2x M.2 SATA
I have this low power Mini ITX mobo with 4 SATA ports on it. All of them are in use on the FreeNAS. I was using the suggested setup of mirrored USB drives. 2 little Sandisk Cruisers. After about a year one of them failed. I replaced it then a few months later the other one failed. I don't think they are bad devices, they just aren't rated for 24/7 use. Anyway I needed another solution. I had a single PCI-e slot to work with. I picked up some cheapo M.2 "controller" not realizing it needed SATA cables to work. Oops. So I did some more digging and found this. I didn't need the speed of NVMe. I mean this system was running off 2 USB sticks just fine. Given how cheap SATA controllers are I felt this was a little expensive. I mean I could get a 2 port PCIe SATA controller for like $12 USD. Anyway I've worked with StarTech stuff before and it's always seemed to be good quality. After some reading it looked like the controller chip on this would be happy to play with FreeNAS. I installed this 32GB Trancend SATA M.2 drive, installed the card in the machine and re-installed FreeNAS. Imported my 2 mirrored arrays, tweaked some settings, let it reboot like 6 times as I changed things and it did it's import process, make sure all my imported settings worked, then shut it down, installed the other M.2 drive, booted back up, setup the boot drive mirror and boom, perfection. No more USD drives hanging out of the back and it works great. Final thoughts. I think for the money, it's worth it. There are more expensive solutions out there but the instructions are great and it seems well made. I waited 4 months before I wrote this review. Card length is a consideration as well. My FreeNAS machine is in a Fractal Design Node 304. The case itself has room, But there are a lot of power supply and SATA cables running around in there. It was a little tight. Warning: Some BIOS's don't like to boot off PCIe devices. Try and do some research before buying this. If you happen to have a cheapo PCIe SATA controller laying around. Put a bootable drive on it, even a CD-ROM/DVD and see if it boots. Generally if you're in the BIOS and you can see it as a boot option, you're golden. All that said, if you're reading this review and considering buying one of these, you probably know what you're doing. Hope this was helpful. ... show more

  • Works great when you get the drivers
Style: 2x eSATA | 2x SATA
Default drivers had problems with port multiplier for an external hard drive enclosure. Issue ended up being the drivers, downloaded them from their site and restarted. Fixed the issue with only one of my two drives showing up. I don't have another enclosure to verify that both esata will work simultaneously with port multiplier. Take note that only 2 of the 4 sata ports are active at once. If you are expecting to use all 4 it won't work. ... show more
