  • Not a Treky but…
Not a Treky but I really enjoy this show! I know Strange New Worlds did receive some criticism but honestly this is the only StarTrek show I’ve ever really had fun watching and really helped me understand the federation in a more positive light that I never understood before. They did a fantastic job on the writing, set, cast, cinematography and the costumes. It’s a very visually appealing show and it had a really nice modern feel to it. I like that it didn’t have an “overly pandering element” to the story and all characters really held their own and treated each other with respect. I really appreciated that. The story does a good job of focusing on several members of the crew and their story arcs. Ended up really liking all the members of the crew. Captain Pike was a great leader character. He seemed liked he really cared for each one of his crew members where other captains kind of treated some of them as disposable. Also liked his dad joke vibe with his epic Jonny Bravo hair cut that brought it all together. The other low key elements I really liked about the first couple seasons was how they turned the usually logical and stuffy Spock into the desired unofficial sex symbol of the show was brilliant! They touched on Spock’s human side better than any of the other shows have prior to this with style. It’s about time we stop making sexy characters just for the sake of having sexy characters! Smart and logical needed a stronger emphasis as being sexy in the world we live in today. All around great show to watch when you’d like to chill out after a day of work! This is a ridiculous review that I wrote knowing that hardly anyone would read this for a hard copy of a show but this is what I did today instead of doom scrolling. So live long and prosper! ... show more

  • good keeps getting better
Season one of SNW was awesome. Season two is even better, and I'm already eagerly awaiting the season three currently in production. Some people whined about the musical episode and LD crossover but I loved them both. The cast clearly had so much fun with the musical and it showcased their phenomenal talent in a way nothing else could have. It also brought hidden drives and character development in a way nothing else could have, and to top it all off the music is fantastic (I'm grateful for the earworms!). The Klingon K-pop scene is hilarious, even more so after learning that Bruce Horak cameoed as the commander. LD and SNW are competitors for my favorite Trek and seeing them brought together for both live-action and animation was absolute joy and I hope for more. Boimler calling out "Riker!" when mounting Pike's saddle with Frakes behind the camera was gold. Season two doesn't shy away from going into heavyweight territory either, putting it on par with the best of DS9. Creatives, please continue the fabulous work you're doing. ... show more

  • Best Star Trek Series since the original
I bought the first season and most episodes seemed underwhelming until the last few season 1 episodes which gave me hope for season 2. I purchased Season 2 and the series has found its ’sea legs’. Most episodes are original, keep my interest and the cast has formed their characters in a very believable way. My only suggestion would be regarding the singing episode…really? I don’t consider Star Trek as a musical. That episode was just silly and worthy of a ‘Three Stooges’ short….wait, maybe I’m on to something here…yes, a Star Trek episode resembling the antics of the ‘Three Stooges’. It would be more entertaining than the musical episode! Other than my biased personal opinion regarding the ridiculous musical episode or my obvious humorous suggestion of a ‘Three Stooges’ episode, most episodes keep my attention and I like how the cast have developed their character’s personality. Other than the Original Series, this Star Trek series is the best. Make more episodes per season. 9 or 10 episodes is really a short season to keep Trekkies on board. Just a suggestion… ... show more

  • The Human Adventure Continues!
“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – Season Two” picks up after the events of the first season, with Enterprise first officer Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) under arrest for genetic modification. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) departs the Enterprise at spacedock to seek out legal representation, leaving Spock (Ethan Peck) in charge. Spock must steal the Enterprise to rescue Lt. La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) near the Klingon border. He enlists senior officers Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), Dr. M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), and Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding). Joining them is engineer Pelia (Carol Kane), recently from Starfleet Academy and looking for new adventures. Together, they find them this season. This season’s episodes continue to feature some great tie-ins to other Trek stories as well as original adventures. The opening episode is a fun adventure while the second episode is a classic Trek courtroom drama. Time-travel, identity confusion, and even horror elements weave their way into subsequent episodes. “Among the Lotus Eaters” directly follows up on Captain Pike’s log entry from the original pilot episode, “The Cage.” The last four episodes of the season alternate between humor and high drama against the backdrop of war. “Those Old Scientists” features a crossover with animated Trek series “Lower Decks,” allowing Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome to bring their animated characters to life. “Subspace Rhapsody” features the first-ever Trek musical episode, which is a surprise as the franchise has featured many musical moments. Also joining the Enterprise crew this season is a young Lt. James T. Kirk, played perfectly by Paul Wesley. This Blu-Ray set features all 10 episodes of the second season plus bonus features including a look at making the show’s props and costumes, creating the Gorn for the show, making a musical episode, the creation of new worlds, and deleted, extended, and alternate scenes. This set features lovely steelbook packaging and includes a fold-out poster for “Subspace Rhapsody.” A great way for fans to add the second season to their home video collection. ... show more
