  • Does the job
Needed to replaced, so, initially, I got one at the local parts store, but still needed the rubber gasket. After looking at reviews for the one I bought, I found it had terrible reviews. I bought this one, which was cheaper than the one from the parts store! I ordered the corresponding gasket and installed. It is holding perfect temperature, and I'm sure the Stant will hold up great over time. ... show more

  • Much better quality thermostat
Don't buy the 'regular' thermostats' because your car's cooling system is very important. This 'Superstat' controls the engine temp far better that the original and keeps the engine temp more constant -- My car has a digital temp readout and the engine temperature variance is much better.

  • These work great! (remember to get a gasket too)
Short version: These work great, quick to warm up and stable temp, nice hot heater - even at 0F / -20C outside. Remember to also replace the gasket and radiator cap, and have a little bit of spare antifreeze to top off the level when finish. If you have dex-cool in your engine, make sure you use dex-cool! Replacing the thermostat, gasket and radiator cap resolved an issue I was having where the engine would take a long time to warm up, and the temp would drop on the open road, and the heater wasn't great either. I'm not sure which of those three parts may have been at fault, but if you're servicing your cooling system they're a few dollars and worth replacing. I did discover the gasket had been damaged either due to being incorrectly installed or not quite the right size. The thermostat from Stant didn't include a gasket, I would suggest replacing the gasket as well, so be sure to get one either from Amazon or from the local auto parts shop. Here in Alaska with outside temps already getting down to 0F / -20C the engine gets upto operating temp quickly and stays with-in a few degrees of 195F, heater is nice and hot too! Note: You always want to use the hottest thermostat you can (with-out going beyond the engines specifications) - this improves efficiency - lowering the combustion chamber temp robs heat energy from the combustion process and as a result you get less power. Yes cooler intake air will result in more power because it is denser and holds more oxygen - not an engine that is running cold. ... show more

  • Gasket Fitment
Looked almost as good as the replaced thermostat, but the gasket fit loosely. I was not sure this could be an issue in the future.. now almost a year later the 3800 V6 engine on the Pontiac has been running at normal operating temperature.

  • No gasket
This thermostat cured my car’s problem with not reaching operating temperature. Old thermostat had failed open and in winter car never warmed up all the way. However, it does not come with the gasket or seal. You will need one. Since the old one will be brittle and not useable. I ended up using some o rings in a pinch to get my car back up and running again. ... show more
