I was having a problem with my 2000 Neon overheating when the car was idling. After doing some research I narrowed it down to a probable bad thermostat. I was able to swap this one in for my old one and it was an exact match. The whole repair took me ~10 minutes. The car started up normally and I let it idle for a good 30 minutes and the temperature indicator never got too high. I also found that the fan was cutting and off normally. FYI: the o ring on this part has a notch that my original thermostat didn't have. The instructions I found asked to cut the plastic with a knife allowing the part to be used. i went with the original design from the manufacturer.

    • Fitted perfectly...
only drawback was, older thermostats I have seen and replaced had gaskets that were seated between the thermostat housing and engine. Newer ones, such as this, now have a rubberized type ring that fits around the widest part of the thermostat and seats it into the thermostat housing removing the need for a gasket. Unfortunately the ring on the thermostat I replaced was deteriorated and non-usable and a new ring was not included as part of this purchase. Some minor frustration and irritation wherein I had to go out to an auto parts place and spend $5.00 for a new ring. Just the rubberized ring?, $5.00?, sheesh, the thermostat was only $5.00 or thereabout. eh, live and learn. ... show more

You do not get what is described. You get a thermostat w/o rubber O Ring not what is pictured. You can buy this cheaper from other vendors who states O Ring must be purchased separately
