  • It worked!
I had purchased another thermostat from a well known supplier and had no the but overheating after installing it. Bought this one and threw it in. No problems at all... no overheating and could completely fill up the coolant.

  • Great Replacement Thermostat!
This Stant replacment thermostat worked perfectly. Stant has always made great aftermarket automobile cooling components, so I figured I would try this thermostat. The check engine light came on in my 2005 Mazda 3 a few months back. I ran my OBDII diagnostics tester on the car, and it showed a P128 codde. This means that the car is taking too long to come up to temperature when the car first warms up in the morming. I did a little research, and it seems that eventually the thermostat malfunctions on the Mazda 3 and sticks open permanently, causing the car to take longer to warm up than it should. This also causes more pollution, since the car is running richer for a longer period of time than it should (hence the CEL). The Mazda dealer wanted $70.00 for the OEM Motorcraft thermostat and $400.00 to install it, WOW! Since I have been working on cars for years I said, "No thank you!" I ordered the thermostat from Amazon for just over 30 bucks, and replaced it in about an hour. One of the mounting bolts (there are 3) is a pain to get to, since the thermostat is at the bottom of the engine, behind the alternator. It was no problem with the right tools though. The total cost for the thermostat, antifreeze, and a couple of new hose clamps was about $50.00. No thank you dealership rip-off artists! I replaced the thermostat, flushed the cooling sytem, and reset the check engine light. The car has been running fine ever since (and no more CEL). Thank you Amazon! ... show more

  • Couple of days of overheating
Apparently this thermostat does not have the air bleed hole, like the other brand thermostat sold here and in Autozone (with plastic pegs holding the element). BTW, the second photo on this Amazon listing (showing thermostat dimensions) depicts the pegged thermostat, i.e. the different model. You get the one seen in the first picture. When my mechanic put this thermostat in place in Mazda3 2.3L 2006 the car started overheating like crazy, while the thermostat hose was soft (no fluid) and cold. The heater core worked fine and its hose (from the second outlet of this thermostat) was hot. I did the "bleed" procedure (2.5k RPMs+3.5K RPMs) as Mazda recommends. To no avail. It took a couple of days (thankfully it was very cold out) for the problem to disappear on its own. The hose became firm and hot. So I attribute this issue to no air vent design in this thermostat. Other than that it seems a great device. My temps are 82-90C now (use OBD reader to see the real coolant temperature, Mazda's dash temp gauge is USELESS! It stays in the middle whether you are at 72C or 98C, or anywhere in between). ... show more

  • LOL...
I have had this part on my shelf for a few years... When I thought I needed it, it turned out to be something else... Well that something else just happened last Sunday along with the sensor that I reviewed.. Great part, fit perfectly...access to it sucked but that is the Mazda way.. No leaks, no problems...good value for the $$ Would buy it again... ... show more

  • Great product
writing this review after reading some (-) reviews about the quality or the air bleeder valve missing both of which are wrong, this thermostat is one of the best brands on the market today. all the manufacturer specs as per vehicle applications are there, great quality, it does come with the air bleeder valve, well built and fits like a glove. would recommend buying this product to anyone who likes to maintain their own vehicle, buy with confidence knowing you will get a great thermostat. ... show more

  • Solved my slow Mazda3 coolant leak!
Installed as replacement in a 2004 Mazda 3 to fix a slow coolant leak... where I could see some coolant colorant in the area of this part (which is reported as a frequent cause of such leaks after years of use...). Install was straightforward... and 6 weeks in... its still working well and no sign of further leaks. I can't vouch for its long term life yet, but it seemed solid out of the box. I was careful w/ the torque on the bolts in installation and hope it will last the remaining life of the car! ... show more
