  • Worth Their Weight In Gold
We've had storm after storm in the past weeks, including a lot of freezing rain and ice, and I've had LOTS of chances to give these a workout. I can safely say that these are far superior to the YakTrax (and I've worn YakTrax for years). The STABILicers are extremely sturdily built with very thick, tough rubber, and the cleats are molded out of thick heavy duty metal plates that are embedded into the rubber soles. No popped cleats on these bad boys! I have walked extensively on ice, snow, macadam, wood, and concrete wearing these during the past several weeks and there is zero sign of wear on the cleat tips. I wouldn't recommend doing too much walking around indoors with these on. Outdoors, however, is a different story. These things are AMAZING! I can walk from my house to my parents' house on a solid sheet of glass-like black ice and not even know it. I don't have to alter my walk or speed in any way. With my YakTrax, I always felt like I had to "make fists with my toes" inside my shoes and walk more slowly to be sure the coiled wire was biting into the ice. With the STABILicers, I just walk completely normally and at full speed. I have purposely tried to slip and slide on various patches of ice and cannot even make them budge. These things really dig in and stabilize your stance. I think part of it is due to the fact that the rows of cleats point in various directions. They do a fabulous job on snow, too, and I've done a heap of shoveling lately and have given them quite a workout. The same is true when I walk on my wooden ramp and deck. Just like bridges, it "freezes before road surface," and is always the first thing to freeze up, the last thing to unfreeze, and is wicked slick. No problemo. Can't even force a slip or slide. These do leave small pinpoint cleat impressions in the wood, however. I've walked up to the front of our development to get mail and then back again in these quite a few times now, which is about a quarter mile walk, most of the trip being on non-icy macadam after the plow guys have been through the neighborhood, and no sign of wear or tear on the cleats. The walk, though a bit awkward on cleats, is easy enough to do, and no problems with balance. These come in a few colors -- mine are blue so they'll be easy to find in snow if I walk out of them. However, I've had no issues in that regard. They fit snug and have shown no sign of being loose or coming off. Size-wise I would suggest that you get larger than you need in order to give some leeway to fit over your shoes or boots. I have small feet (8.5) and purchased size large and they fit over top of my old beat-up pair of Kuru shoes perfectly. I use that pair for outdoor work exclusively and so I just leave the STABILicers on the shoes all winter, but they're easy to get on and off, and stay put nicely. If you live in snowy/icy environs, which includes just about everybody lately, these things are worth their weight in gold. They make walking on snow and ice a non-issue. Recommended! ... show more

  • These are great on ice and snow
Color: Orange Size: Large
This is my second year of wearing these in snow/ice. They are excellent. I am 80 and hike/walk every day. I have never slipped or fallen with them on. Two important things. One: buy them large enough and Two: Make sure they are all the way in place. I have size 10 women's Merrill hiking boots and wear the Large cleats. I started using size Medium and found them difficult to put on, and worse they fell off while hiking and one was lost. I highly recommend them for safety, stability, and ease of use. (My husband wears size 11 Merrill hiking boots and uses the XL cleats. We like blue and orange because they are easy to see.) ... show more

  • Confidence in dangerous conditions
Color: Black Size: X-Large
These were purchased as a result of a bad fall on ice. I am a delivery person. One day this winter I slipped and fell on ice while making a delivery. Now I have to have surgery to repair a badly damaged shoulder. Besides surgery, I face 6-8 weeks of inactivity followed by up to a year of rehabilitation therapy. While I am still recovering, these cleats have given me back the confidence I lost due to the sudden and violent fall on ice. Had I been wearing these at the time it may have prevented the accident from ever happening. SIZE - After reading prior reviews of them running small I opted to purchase the next larger size. Even though I wear a size 11 shoe, I purchased the Mans XL for shoe sizes 12.5 - 15. As you can see by the photos the fit is perfect on a size 11 shoe. And they fit over a pair of size 11.5 Wide width Military style insulated Rocky boots equally well. They still require a slight stretch to put on but they are not loose and the cleats fall right where they should at the the toe, ball, and heel of the foot. They stretch on easily and come off easier. Align them as needed for proper placement of the cleats. If they don't line up right after adjusting you bought the wrong size. Also, within your size range, check all the available colors as some colors are cheaper than others. If color doesn't matter to you, you can save some money. USES - these are designed to wear OUTDOORS on dirt, gravel, blacktop, or concrete in snowy, icy, or slippery conditions. Avoid using them on dry non-slippery concrete or gravel as you will only wear them out unnecessarily. DO NOT wear them on wood floors, linoleum, tile, steel, or marble. The steel cleats may damage softer materials or SLIP on the harder slicker surfaces. Ice is softer than steel so they still dig into ice. This should be common sense. Where there is no longer a danger of slipping, take them off. I like them. I wish I had bought them sooner. You have two choices: protect yourself, or risk a debilitating and expensive fall. Pick one. ... show more
