This epic "robot" made our 3 year old daughters Christmas. She is obsessed with robots and absolutely adores BB-8. She asked Santa for a robot this year and we decided to go all in. It's been about 2 weeks since she received it and is getting decent at controlling BB-8 with the phone. The force band is pretty tricky for her but she likes playing the app with it. There is a cool "draw and drive" feature that she has lots of fun drawing tracks for BB-8 to trace. Overall we are extremely impressed with the durability and overall design. My husband and I have as much fun as our daughter does! It is a pretty small size, so we try to limit her in carrying it around to avoid drops. When BB-8 needs to charge it also has a feature where you can watch The Force Awakens and he reacts to the scenes. Very fun - esp for a young child who truly believes it's THE BB-8 :) Highly recommend! ... show more

This BB8 Spheo Droid "Is the Droid You're Looking For" is actually the Droid you're looking for. Sphero did a great job creating this product! BB8 is a really cool Droid! The features on the app are great and cool! The Force Band is what I love the most. You can control BB8 with your arm and unlock different abilities using the force. Also, the app that you use to control your BB8 is same app that you use for the Force Band! That is great for storage efficiency. Another cool thing is that you can play in different activities! Finally, the BB8 app gives you a tutorial on how to use everything! This Toy is for everyone who loves to control robots! I bought this toy from Amazon and it came in a nice package with nothing wrong or damaged stuff in it. This Toy is great for any gender! Best Toy of The Year? ... show more

We bought two of the BB8/Force Band Special Edition combo and so far the kids are enjoying it. It comes in a metal case that you can store the droid and the band. We charged the droid by connecting to a computer and the other one to an adapter via the wall outlet. The droid does not come with a wall current adapter but it is the usual USB wall outlet. The droid comes with two cords, one to charge the droid's base and one to charge the Force band. While charging, in which it did not take long to charge, we downloaded the app. The app gives step by step directions as a printed manual does not come with the product. After the app has been down loaded and while the band was charging or after it has been charged, place your mobile device (tablet or phone) near the band, follow the prompts and the app will update the band without connecting the band and the mobile device. We had to update in two separate updates as the audio was updated after the first update. For one of the bands, we had to manually go into the app settings and tell it to update the second update, the audio update. The audio update is the largest of the two updates. BB-8 can roll on hardwood floors and carpet. In order to get the Holocrons and the armory to appear in the app, after the update, go through the force training as you must complete it and then they will appear. Sphero has YouTube videos demonstrating the steps as it is very helpful. I think in YouTube we typed in Sphero Force band and I think they have four videos showing the getting started etc. The kids feel like a Jedi as Obi Wan's voice comes through the band, not the droid, training them as if they are in Jedi training. We love seeing the kids walk around the house looking for holocrons, bringing in the holocrons and the excitement of watching the holocrons appearing in the app. The mobile device is not needed to direct BB8 but it is needed to update, force training, etc. We did contact customer service via email and I think within 12 hours the email was answered with clear answers. I adore this little droid. As an 'adult' I haven't gotten bored with it as many children probably will get with any technology. I have probably annoyed everyone in the house by playing with it non-stop and bumping into everything as I learn the gestures. Force band is awesome. No need for the app, but I'd still download it as it's through the app that updates are uploaded to the unit. Also if you are going to give this as a gift to a child, open it up and download the apps because it took a few hours to update both BB8 and the Force Band and we all know how impatient children can get with new toys they want to play with now. I had to leave the house and go to a movie and dinner so not to annoy anyone...at least with having to wait to annoy people with the actual droid. Now this does come with a case, but it only fits BB8 and his charging base and no where to put the force band, if you choose to take it off of course. [The picture with BB8 in the case doesn't have BB8 pushed all the way into the case, sort of a pain getting him out] The band is sturdy, it's a little hard to get the microSD cord into the slot, but that's a good thing. Once on it's got a good strong magnet as a clasp and even with putting my hands in and out of tight jean pockets it stayed on. The band is adjustable with a Velcro strap, which may in the future need to be cleaned out as all things velcro tend to do after time (use the cutting end of a scotch tape dispenser in the teeth of the velcro to clean it). A word of warning however, the animals will really insist on playing with BB8 as well. But because he's a ball...and his head pops off too easily when you smash into things. But you can pick him up by his head without the body coming off. The antenna are sort of flimsy. Don't let the cats try to eat them. If you have cats. ... show more
