I live in Texas and I spend a lot of time outdoors at concerts, camping, and hiking... I mainly bought this for the hiking. A typical day hike for me is 15 to 20 miles, and I wanted something with firm sides that would keep my water bottles standing, rather than allowing them to fall all over inside the pack and press uncomfortably against my lower back. I usually go out with 5 liters of water, iced in the freezer, which is a lot of weight pressing against you. The bottles I placed into THIS pack remained standing, and I can tell you that after my most recent 21+ mile hike, I felt the difference! It insulates and retains ice pretty well. When I was walking with the backpack on I did not feel any cold against my back, and I did not feel, or find any leaks. When I was about 16 miles into my hike and I pulled out another bottle, it was still about 80% to 85% ice. When I finished my hike and I looked into the bag, there was a small amount of water from the condensation, and as I said earlier, there were no leaks found. The top storage pocket of the backpack and the one on the front of it provide ample room for my wallet, compass, GPS unit, cell phone, sunglass case, and anything else that I prefer to bring with, rather than leave in my car. The items in these pockets were also well insulated from the frozen items in the storage area of the back pack. The only complaint that I have is that the padding on the straps feel cheap. They did the job and I had no issues on my hike, but when I first put the backpack on some of the back bled onto my right shoulder. I was a bit sweaty, because Texas, and it was not obvious, but seeing that it even happened in the first place makes me wonder... a quality material should not bleed. So why was I "pleasantly surprised" with this product? Well, When I first ordered it, I thought it was a Starter brand backpack. The logo is pretty similar, and though I was surprised that Starter would make a product like this, it did not seem too cray cray, given they made jackets and other outdoor wear. So when I received it, I was sort feeling like I was hoodwinked (even if I was, my fault for not paying attention at the time of purchase). It turned out to be a great purchase though. Oh, I almost forgot, I was able to easily fit two 2 2-liter bottles into the main storage area of the backpack. I found that I could also add a liter and a 1.5 liter water bottle. If I wanted to throw sandwiches and protein bars into the main storage area, there would definitely be more than enough room for a few of each. I am hoping this gives you a better idea of how much you can pack into it. ... show more

My old man needed a bag for work that wouldn't get in the way but would keep his lunch cold. No one wants to eat warm egg salad sandwiches or find fudge melted all over their bag. I found this bag and prayed it would get the job done. He still uses his ice packs for backup inside the bag just in case but he told me he doesn't really need them. To understand the impresiveness here, this bag sits all day in the back of a truck where tempatures reach 130 degrees easily. There is no ac blowing on this bag. It has to stand up to that heat on a daily basis. He's been using this bag since I bought it over a month ago. All his food is staying cold cold cold. Not icicle cold because who wants frozen food with no way to warm it up, it stays fridge cold. And he's not gentle with his bags but it protects what's in it both in the cooler area and the external pockets. There have been no tears, rips, busted zippers, no problems at all. If this bag ever fails because of getting too old, I'll buy the same exact bag again. I'm seriously impressed with its performance. More importantly, so is my old man. ... show more

Love how much easier it is to carry a light picnic to outdoor events. It has a front pocket that is handy to keep a few paper plates napkins and corkscrew handy and dry. Inside there's plenty of room for water , chilled wine, cheese & crackers, sandwiches... Small containers of salads, olives and other picnic treats are easy. Not quite wide enough for the containers I used to pack up, but I'm learning to use the smaller ones. It's perfect for 2 of us but won't be enough if we are bringing things to share. It was quite comfortable when casually hiking too. The big cooler will be gathering dust most of the time I think! Seems to keep things cold, but the bag of ice started to get watery pretty quickly when we tried it because the motel freezer compartment was too small... Used it walking around theme park all day for several days… I didn’t expect a whole lot, but it worked better than expected. When the ice melts (which didn’t take long when walking around outside in the heat in Florida) you have to keep it upright or the zipper will leak water. However, I was impressed that it does not leak otherwise from the seams, even when there’s a lot of water in it. We usually filled it in the mornings, would drain water out of it about every hour or so, refill it halfway through the day, and continue to drain the water through the afternoon. ... show more

I like it! Just keep it upright because it’s not leakproof at the zipper line and they tell you that in the details on the product. I put a 5lb bag of ice and ten 16oz bottles of water in mine and still had space for more. I also use it to hold groceries sometimes since I carry mine upstairs. I fit a half gallon milk, a quart sized ice cream box, two 8oz bags of shredded cheese, and a pack of 4 sticks of butter in it to carry it upstairs on a hot summer day and I still had some space leftover (no ice in it when I carried my groceries upstairs). ... show more

Leak proof, not a single drop, even after the whole day. Keeps ice-cold water inside for a whole day at the beach! I tested it at home overnight and it kept the icy water all night, I was impressed. Bought this for an all day music festival I was attending/playing, across multiple blocks of my neighborhood. I filled it with a large ice pack, a decent scoop of ice, and 6 beers (16oz) 4 Whiteclaws, 3 Cokes, 3 Bubly's and one 32oz crowler can at about 11am. Works awesome no leaks at all while carrying it with ice but if u lay it on its side or flat it will leak through the zipper at the top which I have no issues with cuz y would u carry it upside down? I've been slinging a soft side rectangular cooler over my shoulder for years and finally realized they make a soft side cooler in a backpack design. This cooler is not only bigger than the shoulder model I used to own but it is so much easier to carry around and I no longer have to worry about my cooler slipping off my shoulder. I live in a 55+ community and within walking distance of a grocery store. I use this backpack to not only get my groceries but get in a nice morning walk. There is a small insulated zipper area on the top, which I use for small package of meat and then the larger insulated compartment holds everything else. I have small flat freezer packs for lunch bags and they fit perfect. I work in the heat for 12-14 hours a day and have been looking for that perfect cooler for years and I think I finally found it. I’ve had many of the popular brands but always get tired of carrying them around due to the weight and bulkiness of the coolers. I decided to give this one a chance this year and love everything about it. It is super easy to carry it around as a back pack and has a ton of space for drinks. I put two huge ice packs in with my drinks and still could fit 15+ 16.9oz bottles. I also add ice to keep everything cold for the day and it last until the end of my shift.
