This review is specifically for the 18inch Class-D Amp variant of this sub. EDIT 2: Was sent a new one that works just fine! Great sub. Edit 10-17-2020: The sub has been great until about a half hour ago. Haven't pushed any clipping signal through it or anything, but everything is suddenly distorted sounding, particularly at low volumes, no matter what I play or what input I use. It would appear I've got a defective unit. I've contacted SoundTown to inquire about a warranty, will update this when I get a reply to see how they handle this. Edit: I sent SoundTown a video of what I was experiencing and they sent me a new unit without having to ship the old one back. New one arrived and works wonderfully. Let me start by telling you my experience with audio. I've been producing bass heavy hip-hop and electronic music for about 15 years, and playing out the same styles for about 6 years at clubs, venues and parties on everything from Behringer to Funktion. Proper low end is absolutely critical for me and the music I'm accustomed to. For monitoring I've been using JBL LSR308's for 4 years and recently upgraded to the JBL 308P MK2s with the 310S sub. My 10 inch sub costs $40 more than this bad boy. I'm genuinely impressed by this sub! I had two Rockville RBG12S 12in subs for smaller gigs alongside Behringer B210D's for tops, the rockvilles could barely touch a Low F (44hz). They had kick, but no follow through; the low RUMBLE that you want with big bass music with 808's and dominant basslines. Quite rough for 12's, but that's not what this review is about. The METIS-18SDWP is fantastic value! Their response is much more rounded, but still heavy on the lower kickdrum frequencies (60/70hz-ish). The low lows (<44hz) aren't quite as prominent which is usually the case with cheaper subs. This is with the crossover filter tuned as low as it goes (40hz). However, doing tests with sine wave oscillators, I blasted a low C note (32.8hz) through this thing and it shook everything, no distortion until you start nearing clip. So the frequency range is what you should expect from an 18. Because of the resonance around that 70hz or so, the simple fix is to use a graphic EQ to even out the tone some more. Either way, massive upgrade from what I had before. Two of those 12inch Rockvilles can't touch this single Sound Town 18 on sound quality. Bear in mind that is does NOT support stereo out. It has input A and B but for whatever reason it sums the input to mono. So you'll either need two for L and R respectively or to route only one speaker with the sub, in which case you'll get half signal so you'll have to compensate with turning everything else down. Or put it on your booth out, there's ways around this so it's not a super huge deal. My 10inch JBL LSR310S has more rounded sound than this, but it is not as powerful (550w RMS less, go figure). Still, that's 40 more bucks for 8inches less, so the 10 is going to be a more thoroughly designed product. Regardless, I've been playing with it for about an hour and I absolutely can't complain due to the amazing value; Sound Town has definitely left a good impression on me with this. I'm going to take it to a party in about a month and if there are any updates, I'll update this review. For right now, I would most *definitely* nab one (or even two) of these if you want strong low end for a fraction of what most 18's cost. =Takeaway= Build: Decent, I *hate* carpet exterior because it's a hair/crap magnet and my cat loves it. It's quite heavy (about 90lbs) and large. I barely managed to squeeze this in my little saturn. Along with 3x 10in tops, my XDJ-XZ (soft case), XDJ-1000MK2 (also soft case), 3 speaker stands, a 4.6ft long table, and a backpack. It all fit with room to spare believe it or not. Features: The crossover works, but it's not the steepest so you'll still get resonance no matter how low you put it. It does NOT support stereo output. The <100hz hipass does the job, but unless you're ok with mono sum, you will want two or a different routing. Sound: Good, but lacks uniformity. Lots of "punch", a little less "rumble". Resonance around 60-70hz contributes to this imbalance, but the sub does reach very low (<38hz). Crossover helps a bit, but not as much as I'd like. EQ/Compression can help with this. Value: Incredible, I'm super glad I bought this instead of spending 1, 2, or 400 more dollars on something else. Would suggest the same unless the resonant frequencies bother you and you can't be bothered to EQ. ... show more

    • Great low end fill for Stagepas 600BT

Recently purchased a Yamaha Stagepas 600BT PA system to replace an old failing Harbinger system. The mids and highs were great and much cleaner than my old system but lacked the bass the old system had. ThaYamaha subwoofer was expensive and not that well rated by many users. I decided to try the Soundtown 18” mainly for the price point. It arrived in a few days but the box and the subwoofer were both damaged in shipment. I hooked it up and was pleasantly surprised at the sound it delivered. Just right to fill and balance the overall sound I wanted. Since the damage was cosmetic only, I contacted Soundtown Customer Service and they were quick to make it right with a partial refund. I was satisfied with their fast response to my issue and ordered a second unit and a pair of poles to mount my top speakers above the subs. These are not heavy thumpers if that’s what you are looking for but they do a great job of fleshing out the low end on my system. Good subs for the price. Great customer service too. ... show more

I am not really sure why these subs sound so good for the price point. Just purchased my 2nd one. I have been using the first one for since 2021. In the meantime I purchased other name brand subs to go with this one and this one has outlasted them all. I plan to have 4 total, and make the oldest one a back up. I thought about going high end (QSC/JBL/RCF) for subs, but at this price point, it won't upset me if it blows. Currently breaking in a new one of these subs in my music room before I take it out to a gig. I now pair 2 of these with 2 Alto TS315 speakers. Can play to 300-500 people with this setup in a large room with no acoustic treatment. Fills the room. ... show more

    • The sub sounded fine, but it had one major issue...
Doing something I suspect many people do, I ran my signal into the sub and then out to the speakers. The signal is clean, but through the sub, I got a very loud buzz on my output. Originally, I was using two 5 ft cables for the input, as it was right by the mixer. After doing some of my own troubleshooting, I contacted support to attempt to figure out if there was something we could do. I had to record a video showing the issue. I did several tests, including swapping cables, going straight to the speakers (no issue, obviously), and I flipped the connections, going from the speakers to the sub. While the latter addressed the buzzing, this was not how I wanted my setup to be. The interesting thing? Support actually tried to get me to be OK with it. Did they offer a partial refund for me to be OK with it? No, of course not. So, they wanted me to receive a partially working product for a full price. They even told me that my cables were too long. I would agree, but I was testing, and I also showed them that shorter cables had the same effect. Regardless, apparently they think that your sub shouldn't be further than, what 10 or 15 feet from your mixer or speakers? I will leave the rest of the story out because it infuriates me just thinking about it, but I promise you it was not good. My recommendation? Pay a little more and get something that works the way it should. ... show more

ok i got sub and was not able to set up for 3 weeks but when i did i noticed the driver (SPEAKER 18") was poping from coil i got nervous as i read the bad reviews about noy getting in touch with sound town and or them not helping me.......but to my suprise they were delightful to work with they asked my problem i sent a recording of how sub sounded and they shipped new driver 3 days later ny sub works great sound town is providing a cheap way to have fun you get what you pay for and what they charge if the speaker last 3 years iam happy 5 stars for soundtown costumer service and 5 stars for a good working cheap ass sub (CHINA) LOL. In the end if you want quality go spend 1500.00 on a sub if you are going to bash soundtown. nuff said. update still have same problem with replacment 18 inch driver woofer so also now my amp gain is on its way out and this sub sounds like a regular speaker waiting for email from sound town till next time ... show more
