Description

(Quick Pro Guides). Go beyond the basics of Ableton Live with this book of audio making and mangling recipes, tips, and mixing/mastering techniques. Ableton Live is undoubtedly the most flexible audio application available today: Use it for sound design for music, film, theater, and games; composition; improvising with other musicians; live looping; DJing; and of course mixing and mastering music. Author, mastering engineer, certified Ableton trainer, and power-user Jake Perrine will inspire you to use Live in new ways, and to improve how you already use it. Striking a delicate balance of artistry and theory, he will expand your repertoire for both the studio and the stage. From inspiring recipes for sculpting audio magic and mayhem, to in- depth discussions of mixing and mastering that you would expect to learn in an audio production school, this book is designed to help you "out of your box" into a larger world. It will deepen, enliven, inspire, and improve and your tracks, audio, and performance skills with Ableton Live. Read more

  • Great book for getting started with Ableton
Really impressed by this book and the preceding one in the series. Mr. Perrine gives a great overview of the program and keeps it informative, but not so textbook as to bore you to death. Learned a lot of fundamental techniques that need to be learned in order for you to truly progress as a producer. Would love it if he kept the books coming and continued diving further into producing with Ableton! ... show more

  • WOW
jake perrine has the understanding and the skills to convey this understanding. not only that, but his writing is a joy to read. he's smart, he's funny and his books are very well organized. he'll lead you logically from one step to the next in ableton, all the time deepening your understanding and unlocking more and more potential. after even a portion of the books, you'll imagine projects you've never before conceived, and be able to realize them efficently and with increasing excitement! can you say 'open sesame'? ... show more

  • review
jakes enthusiasm for music production is immediately evident in his book. It's very well written, and jakes knowledge of ableton is top drawer. The book follows a project that is on the accompanying cd, explaining various techniques in ableton live from keyboard shortcuts to mastering in live. I personally found the sound design and mastering chapters a little bit lightweight in content, as these are such huge areas they could have been covered in a bit more depth. If your hoping to learn to design your own patches with operator or any other built in synths this wont be covered. Having said that there is comprehensive coverage of using racks, processing, midi and controllers, and mixing and automation to name a few. Overall i thought the book was excellent value for money and I would recommend the book for anyone looking to improve their skills with abletons software. ... show more

  • Great Book
I haven't made it far in this book yet But I own the previous Producing Music with Ableton Live and I like the fact they have projects to go with it with the samples on the disk for the projects.

  • where's the audio samples?
I was thoroughly disappointed in this book. There are some benefits to it, but I shouldn't have to work so hard to see them. First I shouldn't have to buy the first book if that is not what I need just to be able to use the second book. Secondly the vst elek7ro did not work for anything. Lastly there were no audio files that came with the book that would allow me to use for working though the exercises that are in the book which I'm willing to bet come in the first book. ... show more

  • Very, very basic
If you completely have no idea what you are doing with Ableton Live then this could be helpful. However, it just barely scrathes the surface on sound design, mixing, and mastering.
