The first thing to note is that this is roughly a $20 spin reel. That's wonderfully inexpensive. For that price you get a spinning reel that has smooth action, decent drag setting, and good power. I slapped it on a rod and spun it up with 20lb braid and usually run a texas rig on it. Works wonders for bringing in bass! I don't expect this to be a reel that blows everything out of the water, but it's lasted one spring and summer, with me going out at least 4 times a week. I have 4 Shakespeare micro combos from Walmart that we use trout fishing. The reels started falling apart after two years, which was fine for $23 combo poles. I wanted a cheap replacement reel since the rods are cheapo too. I bought 4 of these and they all have worked great. I have some larger size of the same brand and they have worked great as well. It's sized more like a 2500 series compared to my name brand reels. The 4000 might have been a better choice. The drive train is smooth and fluid with a small amount free play.The drag is smooth and should be fine for the average angler fishing bass,trout,panfish. Gear ratio is on the lower side at 5 to 1,providing good retrieve power and good for slow presentations The quality is as good as some reels for over twice the price. Even tho I purchased this as a gift for a new angler,I would be fine using this reel. Perfect for anything you don't want to risk your expensive gear to such as rod loss on an overturn,airline travel,keeping a rod behind the truck seat,loaner, ect. I ordered 2 different reels at $20 ea,the Fishdrops Red Devil ended up being the superior reel. BB on the spool shaft,carbon fiber drag.It was also a proper 3000 size. Very good fishing reel nice drag and gears everything is smooth and strong in this reel, size is a little off but every brand is diffrent i would say go up in any size you want to get for example if you want a 3000 get a 4000 size, but overall good reel same as the big brand reels . I just tore down this reel. 3 bearings NOT 12. Don't be fooled buying this junk. I challenge this seller to show me where the 12 bearings are. I know it's a cheap reel but why does the seller feel the need to outright lie to buyers? Again, I challenge the seller to show a breakdown showing 12 bearings for this reel. Update: The line holder on the spool broke off the first time I used it. It is a cheap piece of plastic with NO spring inside. This seller needs to contact me to sort this out. ... show more
