I have several of these. They can work... for a time. What happens is deer are afraid of these things at first, but over time they figure them out. Now I mostly use these around my chicken coop to help keep animals away from it. Deer are smart and persistent, there really isn't much that will scare them away permanently other than killing one. They leave after that. Maybe it is just my deer who are smart? I put some special bags over my apples this year to protect them from deer and insects. Well the deer eventually figured out there were apples in those bags and they ripped all the bags off to eat the apples. A few bags still had apples in the . These things function as a deterrent more than anything. Maybe your deer are stupid and won't learn as quickly as mine. LOL ... show more

    • Good idea, but too loud
I got this to help scare away deer that like to eat my lawn grass, young trees, and garden vegetables. The solar charging works well. The motion control seems plenty sensitive from a good 20-30ft away. It lasts at least most of the night as it was near my bedroom window and I woke up at 3AM to see red and blue lights flashing because of the sprinklers running. I like that you can set it to only work at night and a choice of lights plus sounds or just lights. We live in a neighborhood of 1 acre lots and the houses aren't especially close together, but I worry about it be annoying for the neighbors because it's too loud! There is no volume control to turn it down. And maybe they wouldn't notice it from inside their house at night, but it's very much a possibility. I'd rather have more control over the sound. I also wish you could set it to a certain sounds all the time instead of it always cycling through the sounds. The mounting stake is also plastic and bound to break sooner or later. I'm not sure if it works for the deer though I wouldn't doubt it. I think the idea of this is good. I think it was a good try, but not quite there for me. ... show more

    • Very bright and very loud. Almost too much so
We've had problems lately with possums getting into our garden and compost piles. We picked this up to try to discourage them rooting around in things. Set up and install was easy with the included base. We set it to go off at night with just the lights as our test of the sound showed it was really loud and annoying. The yard and gardens are near our bedroom window and it would have easily woken us up at night. The lights also worked quite well and are _bright_. The first time it was set off at night I was pretty sure there was a patrol car parked outside from all the flashing. A little bit of repointing in a different direction mostly solved that but our dogs can still set it off if they wander too near. We'll still use it but will limit it to times when the veggies and such are most vulnerable so as not to annoy neighbors also. ... show more
