  • Great for Vlogging // Was an Excellent value Before Lume Black Friday Sale // Good customer service
Color: Black
With about 90% of the functionality but at nearly half the cost of the Lume Cube when I got it in May 2019, this was a good deal. I use it as a run and gun, which has paired very nicely with my weatherproof camera and lens setup for making vlog style youtube videos. It can work as a fill or as a main light in pitch black darkness to illuminate subjects that are in talking range. It can easily replace a flashlight and works heaps and bounds better than a cellphone light. I would 100% get it again back then. Not so much now on Black Friday since Lume is running sales. The Lume Cube Air is the same price as this. I have just picked up the Lume Cube Air, which I now think is the better buy for the same price but wouldn't be worth it at the original or even for $15 more unless you need the extra water proofing of the original Cube or brightness. I'll address the main shortcomings and why it mostly doesn't matter It's lacking the magnets -- you can easily get magnetic tape for the money you saved. You need a coin or something top open the screw and can lose it too -- you can put it on the magnetic tape or just have it taped up. But I believe it's also more secure and waterproof because of it. Sokani has 65ft rating vs 30ft rating of the Lume Cube Air. The original Cube uses the same screw in design and is rated for 100ft. No blootooth - I never needed it or wanted it. For professional lighting setups, that would be handy where the light is far out but for vlogs and close work? Nah... Not as bright** (see edit, Sokani is much brighte) - Sokani has 200lux @1m vs 400 for the Lume Cube Air but it's still very bright for vlogging and using within several feet. It may be too bright for close work @25%. People who got the Cube Air computer set are saying it's too bright even at the lowest setting. Having a brighter light would help at farther distances but it's effectiveness is limited by the wide throw of these types of lights, so I think we're talking a few more feet at most. I'll have to test it when the Lume Cube Air arrives, but if you're shooting farther away, that might make a huge difference but makes no difference at shorter ranges and may actually be better. Battery life - running the Cube Air at 50% is 200lux @1m and that runs for 2 hours, which is equivalent to running this at 100% which only lasts an hour. This supposedly lasts 12 hours at 25%. Not sure what the max runtime of the Air is. USB charging - never used this feature but apparently, it can't be used at 100% brightness (unlike Lume). Diffusers. The first ones broke just snapping it on. I contacted CS and they mailed out 2 replacements. I have since lost them. It must have rubbed off somewhere. I'm not sure how good the diffusers are on the Lume Cube but I have just ordered it and will see. Warranty - Lume comes with a 1 year warranty. No word on Sokani. When I contacted them a month or so after the purchase, they replaced the diffusers. I probably won't ask them for another one and just use the extra from the Lume. Quality wise, mine has been bombproof for 6 months, so I can't attest to others saying it stopped working or have broken, etc., FYI, both seem to have mixed reviews for service though. Some Pros of the Sokani compared to the Lume Cube Air Higher CRI (95% vs 90%) Price/Value (non-sale price) Waterproofness (65 vs 30feet under water rating) **Edit: just got the Lume Cube Air, which is the closest Lume priced competitor. While on paper, the Lume Cube Air is twice as bright, there's no way. My copy of the Sokani is the one that's twice as bright! The only thing better with the Lume Cube Air is that it's much smaller and lighter. Pictured is the Lume Cube Air on the Left and this Sokani on the right at the same brightness levels. (Sorry for the bed, throwing stuff on the bed to pack for a trip). ... show more

  • Small form factor with a BIG PUNCH!
Color: Black
I really didn't expect this light to pack the punch it does. It's every bit as bright as my larger filming lights...if thats too bright for your use, it comes with the diffuser and color gels already! It's super easy to use, one button turns it on, changes the brightness/modes, and turns it off. As far as the waterproofing, I haven't needed to test that...BUT the construction of the door/cap that covers the charging port seems very good, I doubt it would leak. My favorite thing about the light is the contsruction. Although it only weighs 80g, its made of metal and has a nice black finish to it. It doesn't feel cheap or flimsy in the least. I'm super happy with my Sokani X1. ... show more

  • Great light with unlimited uses.
Color: Black
This is a great diffuse light if you want to add more brightness in a dimly lit area. The light functions great and for the price the value can not be beat. I recommend this light to anyone that is looking to add more brightness to an object they are trying to film. The function works very well as well with being able to adjust the brightness with the plus and minus buttons. A huge bonus is how compact this light is as well. ... show more

  • Second video light, first stop working
Color: Black
Solid material, fast charging, brightness in different modes pushing one button, and was able to connect with handle bar for underwater photography. I will comment after trying it underwater. After trying once the first light stop working, so I asked for a replacement and very soon I got it. Replacement has been working fine, except that one of the filters loose the magnet, seems that wont last long.. Update, after being underwater, no more than 20 mts the light was difficult to turn on and realize it broke and water came in. This light is not rough enough for scuba activities ... show more

  • Small and powerfully bright!
Color: Black
Light is incredibly small and powerful. It has 4 different intensity settings and strobe function. They supply you with several gel colors for a fill or hair light. It also comes with 2 magnetic defussion and tungsten color lenses. You can also use this as a key light for your camera or smartphone. Perfect for vlogging. ... show more

  • Light works, Waterproof cap broke
Color: Black
I bought two of these lights as an alternative to Lumecubes. On one of them, the cap covering the charging port broke after only a few uses. I wrote the distributor to attempt to get a replacement, and had no response. Amazon offered to take a return or to replace the product, and I have no complaint about Amazon's service. But the cap should be stronger, and it should be possible to get at least a response from Sokani. ... show more

  • Great product that fails in an important way
Color: Black
These are affordable and functional alternatives to other more expensive light cubes, however they fail in an important way. The magnetic filters (white and warm) utilize magnets that may be a little too strong. When you stack them on top of each other, they are prone to rip the magnets out of the actual filter, basically making the filters useless pieces of plastic and leaving you with undiffused light. I have four of these and all four of them had one or more of the filters lose the magnets because of this. ... show more
