    • Just what I needed to sift wood chips out of my annual garden beds
This 1/8" mesh is just what I needed to sift wood chips out of the soil in my garden beds. I had wood chipped my entire front yard garden, and that's excellent overall for great soil quality, water retention, weed suppression. The issue is that in the actual beds where there are lots of annuals and I'm digging, it's pretty impossible not to mix a bunch of wood chips into the soil when planting, which you are not supposed to do. Also the years of having wood chips break down means if they haven't fully broken down yet you have a mix of amazing quality soil mixed with the half broken down chips. So I had a 1/4" sifter but that just wasn't enough and so much wood chip was still in the garden bed soil. This 1/8" mesh is better. Still you get very fine pieces of wood back in the soil but I add composted chicken manure to make up for the nitrogen deficiency in the soil that would create. The overall dimensions of the sifter is good for efficient outdoor soil sifting work. BTW I use straw as mulch in the garden beds once I sift the chips out. I heard that straw doesn't rob as much nitrogen if it gets accidentally mixed into the soil over time. Of course that's not perfect as it has some seeds left in it which I later have to weed out when they sprout, but oh well. Good sifter. ... show more

I use this soil sifter to separate gravel/rocks from dirt so I can use both again. It’s also good for shaking the dirt from weeds after you’ve pulled them up. And it’s a handsome thing, strong snd sturdy, well designed, and just the right size. Buy one!
