    • Worked Fine for about 3 years
At least in my case, I found the life of this instrument to be about 3 years. In the last year or so, I used it only to check moisture content. Recently when I went to switch to the other options, I found the switch to be frozen or stuck on moisture. Finally, it doesn't give correct moisture readings. ... show more

    • Excellent Soil Meter For Low Cost
This is the second soil meter I ordered. The first from another company, would not read the PH of the soil That was the main reason I ordered it. I have moved to a new area and wanted to know if it was alkaline or acid. I had planted several Encore azaleas which were not doing too well. We had an early hard freeze here in AR so that had to contribute, but they need acid soil. When I tested, I found that it tested 7. They do well in 5.5-6. I have used the acid Azalea fertilizer on them, regardless of the fact that they are to be fertilized after blooming. If they don't get some help, they will be dead, not blooming. I bought this for my wife. We were both very busy at the time and failed to check the gadget when it came in. When my wife first tried it, she thought she was doing something wrong because nothing was happening. She tried several times on later days, but still no activity on the needle. She told me about her experience, but it took me several days before I had an opportunity to test the meter. Indeed, nothing happened on any function, under any conditions, following the package instructions to the T. Clearly, it had been DOA, but now the return window is closed.     • Does it’s job, room for improvements
I have some plants and trees that like acidic soil which requires soil amendments in my area. This tells me I’m on the right track as far as amount and type which is really all I bought it for. I’d prefer to pay more for some more features such as an app that records and tracks readings for different spots in your yard, etc. ... But at a minimum I wish it required batteries and kept the reading for a little bit after you pull it out of the ground so I don’t have to have my head on the ground to read it. But for what it is it works and is easier and more immediate than sending samples places. ... show more

    • Just what I wanted
I knew my soil pH was off because the citrus were yellowing a bit and this tested it quickly and accurately so I could add the right soil conditioner. Easy to read and use. The additional moisture meter helped to adjust my lawn sprinklers as well, no more guessing games with "am I watering enough or wasting water?" I have been able to adjust the sprinklers for less time and so I should save a bit of water. The tuna cans around the yard to assess the sprinkler level was a bit of a pain.
