  • Easy, satisfying fun
Style: Throwing Knives
Having read other reviews mentioning paracord unraveling, and worrying about losing the black hawks on missed throws, the first thing I did with mine is to put red heatshrink tubing over the paracord handles. The blades are very sharp and the heatshrink and paracord underneath will still slice instantly if you hit the handle of another hawk, but at least the rest of the heatshrink prevents the paracord from further unraveling. These hawks are very light and small, and they rotate a lot as a result and you also will have to throw them with a bit more force. Still, once you get the right distance and release, they are very easy to stick consistently. At a distance of about 15 feet, I get two full rotations to stick the blade. Compared to the heavier and longer Fasthawk for which I get one rotation at roughly the same distance. During the first session, I had many missed throws with impacts to various parts of the hawks. The hawks are holding up very well. 3 stars for light weight - would like them to be a bit heavier, but they are fun for what they are. 4/5 stars for durability/sturdiness - paracord gets damaged easily, the steel is holding up great. 5 stars overall. Just adapt your technique to the light weight and take some measures to protect the paracord, and you'll have no other complaints about this set of hawks. Tons of fun! ... show more

  • Vs Smith & Wesson & Hitdudu 3 pack
Style: Throwing Knives
Can't really comment accurately on durability, as I've not used them long enough. So far they seem kinda durable, I'll update this review when I find out. Based off of 1st impressions, the Hitdudu seem the most durable, SOGS at 2nd, and Smith and Wesson (S&Ws) at 3rd though.. Sharpness: These are the least sharp out of the 3 brands. As far as sticking to wood, it's surprisingly good. They were way easier to land than the Hitdudu, which are sharper and heavier. The S&Ws are the sharpest by far, from front, top, to back. the Hitdudus are at 2nd place, with only the front being sharp. And these SOGs are only sharp at the front aswell, but not as sharp as the other 2.. atleast the ones i recieved.. Accuracy: These were surprisingly very easy to land. I dont know if its the design, but it seems to always land on the front of the blade for me. These are tied with the S&Ws when it comes to accuracy IMO. The S&Ws land easy because they are very sharp on all sides, so anywhere, other than the handle will stick. These seem to be possibly designed in a way that it will land on the sharpest part. The Hitdudu are the hardest to land accurately atleast to me. That might be a pro or a con to certain people. I like the SOG and S&Ws more though. Weight: The SOGs are the lightest of the 3 brands. For many that's a pro, because they are easier to throw. So if you like light axes, these are the lightest ones I've tried. I prefer the heavier ones though. The S&Ws are the 2nd lightest, and the Hitdudus are the "heaviest", although they're all pretty light to me. The SOG is significantly lighter than the rest though. Price: I bought the SOGs at 51.05 The S&Ws at 45.63 And the Hitdudu at 42.99 Overall: I loved the S&Ws the most, even though they seem to be less durable than the other 2 so far. The S&W got niks on the blade pretty quick.. I'd use the SOGs as 2nd choice. The Hitdudu are harder to land, but I like the challenge for practicing, so the Hitdudu are my go to practice axes now. If they came out with a sharper version of the Hitdudu all around, and stayed the same everywhere else, I think they would be my favorite. I like when things come sharp because i don't trust myself to not brake them, especially when they're light and thin. If the SOGs end up outlasting the other 2 in durability, I might prefer them over the Smith and wessons. But I don't see something so light and thin outlasting them by anything significant. They're all good choices. I'd say the most worth it was my S&Ws with the slightly cheaper price. ... show more

  • Solid Product & Fun! - Repaint them!
Style: Throwing Knives
Very durable* During practice these have landed hard on rocks and concrete and aren't worse for wear. About the only thing to damage them (superficially) is another thrown axe. I tried drilling a hole a bit further up the handle to make rewrapping them easier and gave up after ruining 3 HHS drill bits. The steel is very hard. The handle cord *The cord wrapped around them will have to be replaced. When you hit one of them with the blade of another you'll fray or sever the cord. I recommend replacing it with something bright and painting the exposed metal to make them more visible. You will lose them if you keep them all black. Sheath The sheet is impractical and otherwise only useful for storing them. Throwing They are very light but throw reasonably well. After finding my distances, they hit the target quite consistently. I had better luck at first throwing them point first. ... show more

  • Hours of Fun
Style: Throwing Knives
These are lightweight, so are easy to throw for all ages and ability. Beware, they are sharp. I have had them for two months now, and they have held up great. There is no rust and there are a few dings from hitting other axes in the target. The parachute cord handle needs to be glued to keep from sliding up the handle and. is starting to get nicked from contact from other throws (glue or use nail polish to keep from fraying after getting nicked). I only use the axe covers to transport them, as it takes a while to inset the axes in them. Overall, I am very satisfied. ... show more

  • Really fun, but break often
Style: Throwing Knives
Hi, I bought 3 of these and when the first one broke, SOG was great and sent me 3 new ones (even though only one broke). But I throw these almost every day around 10-15 times a day for fun. After 2 months of use, 3 of 6 broke in half. All broke mid-way down the handle. Only 1 break was from hitting another axe in a stump, the other two breaks were from the axe hitting a clean flat stump, it just cracked in half. Not really sure why. I also wrapped the cords in electrical tape to prevent them from unraveling and hoped that would provide some extra shock absorption to prevent cracks, but that didn't work on the one I broke today. So they are SUPER fun to throw, but they just aren't that durable. ... show more

  • Smaller than they look, but super fun and sturdy.
Style: Throwing Knives
These are smaller than they look but me and the daughter took them out with our throwing knives and had a blast throwing them. They are surprisingly sturdy and sharp and seem like they will hold up well to abuse. Definitely not for someone looking for a big war Tomahawk, but a well balanced throwing tool. ... show more
