Description

The SOG FastHawk is faster, lighter, more agile, and easier to carry than its sibling the Tactical Tomahawk. This is not to say it is not still powerful, versatile, and functional. It is a tool that will be used for much more than you might anticipate. Chopping, breaking, cutting, hammering, piercing, digging, prying, pounding shaving, notching and opening are all capabilities well within the FastHawk's reach. The 420 stainless steel head with a hard cased black coating is mounted to the ballistic polymer handle with heavy-duty bolts and a steel ferrule to insure the strongest integrity. Side hammer checkering insures precision placement when swinging. Carried in a nylon sheath that can be mounted to belt, backpack, or gear. It is a universal tool for modern man. From the Manufacturer The F06-N Fast Hawk is a compact version of the F01T with its 420 stainless steel head with a 2-Inch edge and is coated in a scratch-resistant, black oxide coating for reduced reflectivity. These tomahawks are lightweight, easy to throw and develop consistent throws at multiple distances, and are flawless in tactical design in my opinion. The beard drops low enough that these can be used in close quarters protecting the knuckles and can quickly develop into short to medium range threat. Or vice versa if you carry a pair. They are so lightweight and well profiled they conceal easily about your person. As far as the complaints about the handle I think it’s just bad luck. I have a set of three dedicated to just throwing. I have hit or knicked the handle multiple times grouping shots and it still takes a beating. A cheap file set will help with a quick easy sharpening tool and should be used to flatten and sharpen the rear spike. This axe is almost impossible to drop with a bit of practice. You can cleanly stick the axe and control the angle with good wrist control. Reverse grip throws provide a reliable spike first hit that slam the handle upwards and forwards. If used defensively any shot center mass with a reverse grip is going to lodge in the chest or lungs and deliver a handle strike to the face. This could also easily be used for small game. Even a “missed” throw can still deliver tremendous impact. The complaints about the handle are just bad luck. They are actually my favorite aspect of the weapon. I have intentionally thrown this tomahawk to land in a such a way that the handle literally smacks the target every time. They’re basically bullet proof. 6/5 on quality, design, and consistency in the end user products. Some basic maintenance such as sharpening is an obvious must with any blade. I found that I increased the performance when I sanded down the acute edges on the non cutting surfaces and slightly reprofiling the skull crusher. A good quick sanding on the handle in between use keeps the handle smooth yet still grippy and it releases like butter every time. I don’t know I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Amazon and I basically never leave reviews. These are the real deal in every aspect no matter your intended purpose. ... show more

SOG Fasthawk. I bought this for my son for his tenth birthday (got one in all stainless too) and could not be happier. He has become very interested in throwing 'hawks and I wanted to encourage this activity as we can do it together. I bought a "classic" style 'hawk as well (a "mouse" hawk) along with this item so he two different styles and could see what he liked. By far, he loves the SOG Fasthawk. The edge came hair shaving sharp and while the spike seemed a little blunt, it sticks very well. For his size and strength, this tomahawk is perfect. The handle length and weight and balance are exactly what he needs. I had looked over the 3 pack of SOG throwing 'hawks, but decided that the Fasthawk seemed more durable. My son has chipped them up a little in the month he has been throwing them, but that is to be expected. The stainless steel head sharpens easily to a keen edge and retains it well. As an adult, I think that it is a great throwing tomahawk and could be used in a pinch as a lightweight camp hatchet. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. Oh, almost forgot, for $17 how can you go wrong. Stock up, throwing 'hawks rake a lot of abuse. So, to recap, this is the perfect starting out tomahawk for a boy ir girl or anyone ad it is lightweight, well balanced, well made, and has a price that can not be beat. Loved it as soon as I got it out of the package. It is well built, sturdy, and has a surprising wight to it while still being very small. Perfect for carrying around while walking through the wilderness, or around town for protection (make sure it is legal in your home state first) As I said earlier, this little hawk packs a punch, and was still smaller than I imagined. Very portable! Not at all bulk or uncomfortable when walking around with it on your belt. The sheath it comes with fits very tight on my belt. Depending on what you are doing, however, the buttons underneath can pop open and the hawk falls right out. This only happened when I was doing something more impractical though, like climbing a tree or jumping a wall. I think in most cases it will stay closed, but even if it doesnt, this little guy can be easily hung from your belt. A must buy for anyone who is looking for a smaller, faster tomahawk than you normally find. ... show more
