This eyecup is rectangular, and it fits the eye precisely as it wraps around to block out the extraneous light thoroughly. It makes reading the finder information in glaring light completely possible. Compared to the circular eyecups, which certainly work, this eyecup is more rugged: The cup is thicker, but it is still comfortable, and it's firmness holds it to the eye to block the light more effectively than the softer circular kind. So when you slide your camera into your pack, as I do, if the eyecup rubs against the pack's padding, it will not tear, as did a circular cup wear out and split for me after several insertions. The protector was easy to mount on ny Nikon D7200 camera. Seems to be good quality and will protect the monitor screen. I do like the fact that the mount extends the eye cup, making it easier to view through the lens. One down side is that the protector is slightly larger than the monitor screen. I often wear glasses and thought this product might help price a better view of my view finder; however, it actually makes it harder to see through the view finder as it pushes your eyes further away from the camera. The product details suggested it would help if you wear glasses but I disagree. If you don't wear glasses, I find the product comfortable and it helps cut light from interfering with your view. Mounted this on a Nikon D750. Perfect fit. The original is a joke. Your nose is smashed up against the camera just trying to get your eye close enough to the view finder to block out light and see what you want to look at. This is so much better, there is no real comparison. Can't speak to longevity, but having used this product, I will not go back to the original. ... show more
