So we had a wired barcode scanner for our square POS and when that broke I decided to get this one since it was 1 day shipping and it seemed to be the easier choice since its wireless. This barcode scanner was a lot more expensive than the wired one, however, we figured that it would be worth it since its wireless. That was not the case. The bar code scanner works fine and battery is fine however, its not as accurate as the wired one. We have a lot of products that have a smaller bar code and it was either really hard for it to read the barcode or in some instances it would not be able to read the barcode at all. I ended up returning it and getting the wired one even though this would 100% be worth it if it was able to accurately read all barcodes. ... show more

I waited for a year to buy this because, yes, it is ridiculously expensive and also because the reviews are so bad. I'm worried about why the seller doesn't try and reach out to those here who have posted their problems all over this page. Does this company care at all about their Amazon reviews? They're atrocious. Anyway, the product is great for Shopify and I've seen the issue described over and over of the scanner all of a sudden "not working". Here's the thing, you simply need to not throw the instruction manual away. Even if you do, go on google and search "Socket Scan Mobile Get Started Guide". There are a few very important steps with this thing that tend to feel a bit tedious but are really simple... if you are setting up for the first time, changing phones or the scanner just isnt working... 1. turn the scanner on (wait for it to beep flash blue) 2. turn to the page called "Bluetooth Connection Modes" 3. scan the "Basic Mode (HID) (default)" barcode 4. wait for the scanner to reboot 5. scan the "Application Mode (MFiSPP) for Apple iOS devices" barcode 6. go to bluetooth on your iphone and pair it (or just go to youtube and put /watch?v=qXWN7K5U1dM at the end of the URL) ... show more

We use these for multiple locations and they never last more than a year. It works well when new but just gets progressively worse as time goes on. Shame that it's the only barcode scanner I know of supported by Shopify. It's been almost 4 years since we started using these and there have been 0 improvements made to them. For the price it's also very cheaply built. We have Motorola scanners that have been dropped on concrete and had liquid spilled on them and they're still going strong after multiple years. They also cost less than this Socket scanner. I hope someone else creates a competitive product soon since the Shopify third-party market is growing quite quickly. ... show more

The barcode scanner works well, if you have the right hardware. I hope that I could use it independently, but it requires a tablet that can access the Shopify app that I need to access my inventory. Ended up returning it, but if I had a more tech savvy team this would work great.

I finally purchased one of these wands after reading the reviews. I'm really happy with it. I used it for the first time at a craft show over the weekend, and it was easy to use and I didn't need to recharge it for the entire 6 hours I was there. I recommend it!

I have seen some of the reviews for this scanner and was hesitant to get it but it's the only one that is compatible with the Shopify POS. I am surprised at how easy it is to use and it's reliability. It certainly makes check out easy and customers are impressed at how we are able to quickly get their items scanned and checked-out. So far so good with this scanner. I will come back in a few months and provide an update. ... show more

    • not reliable, on the fourth one for Square/ipad, no support from Socket, battery dies fast too

We bought a second one because the first one died. The second one had one redeeming feature: it was bright yellow so we could find it easily. But the battery power died quickly. So then we bought a third one, a red heavier one that seemed to be a newer model. But that one never worked properly; strange beeping, inconsistently well-behaved, frustrating for both staff and customers. But support was so bad from Socket that we then went back to using the first one again while having it plugged in most of the time since at least it worked reliably (I should have sent the second one back to amazon but didn't) .. now we finally bought a third one from a different vendor, who advertised a bright blue and sent us a navy one. And now I'm realizing that we won't need to use the socket much longer because we're switching POS systems and I am sending the darned thing back!!! ... show more
