  • BEWARE Read: Amazon has mislabeled bumpers as of 9/22
What can I say. Smittybilt builds quality stuff! The fit and finish is excellent. Long story short, great company, good support, and get the standard texture, not the lite texture version. I bought the matching rear bumper, and it came in the standard texture. But this one arrived in the lite texture. Which looks sharp, but I read that the standard texture was more durable, which is why I ordered it. Well, it gave me a good opportunity to evaluate both textures. And, I would agree with what I read. It definitely appears more durable. The lite looks nice, and matches the OEM plastic texture closer, but I think it would not wear as well. Amazon was great (@160lbs) about returning this one at no charge, but the replacement came the lite texture finish too lol smh! After some time on the phone with Smittybilt support, (who were excellent), it was determined that there was a mistake at the factory, and the boxes amazon had were mislabled, not only did I get a lite texture version, but it was for a JL not a JK. They made it right though, and got me the right one in no time! The one thing I would mention, is that the plastic pads on the bumper, are not solid. As in they they look solid, but they are a hollow honeycomb on the back. Time will tell how well they will hold up to abuse. Overall it took a while to get both bumpers, but the end result looks great, and will surely ward of the rocks :) ... show more

  • Bumped up
Nice and heavy, but manageable on my own with assistance from my motorcycle lift and a few 2X4. My winch sits into it nice and low. Having the right tools help make the installation go easy. I would suggest this bumper to others.

  • Very stout bumper
Bumper arrived well packaged and in good condition. This is a very rugged bumper and the finish is very good. Installation was pretty straight forward. Only issue I had was I installed with a Warn EVO 10K winch and once installed, I could not connect the wiring back up to the fog lights. I managed to get the drivers side plugged back in, but there was not enough clearance between the winch and the passenger side fog light to get the plug back in. Not sure if this is an issue with other winches or not. But, there is very little room to get your hand in there to plug it back in regardless of which winch you use. Looks to me that if you are using a Warn Evo, you would have to maybe cut the wires to the plug, plug it into the fog light prior to installing the winch, then splice the wires after the bumper is installed. Even then, I am not sure that there is enough clearance between the winch and the light for the plug. Do yourself a favor, check it first. I gave up with the fog lights. It would have required me to take the bumper and winch back off and I never found the factory fog lights to be that useful anyway. ... show more

  • It's Smittybilt not shi**y built
Pros: The bumper is stout. It's not a flimsy bend by hand bumper like numerous others that are being sold on here. Finish is great. Packaging Great. Uses stock fog/driving lights and wiring. Fits perfect with no issues on a 2014 Rubicon, except for when I mounted the Warn Zeon winch. Because of the low mounting position for better air flow to the radiator - something other bumper mfgs forget about when sticking the winch high in the middle of the radiator blocking off 30% of the radiator - I had to clearance some of the frame horn. I'm not sure if that would be needed with other winches but it was required with the Warn Zeon. Cons: It's heavy. It's thick steel so this could go in the pro category as well Mounting the winch after the bumper was mounted is a real PITA. Depending on winch getting to your fog/driving lights is not fun and may require removing the winch. In Short, if you want a bumper that will take abuse and last this is it. If you want a fashion flimsy thing for your mall crawler on 22" wheels this ain't it. - Did you know the tire diameter needs to be twice the wheel diameter for effective off-road use. ... show more

  • Great product, horrible instructions and delivery.
Smittybilt is one of the most discussed aftermarket mods in the industry. Here's how I see it. The XRC Gen 2 Front Bumper is rock solid and aesthetically pleasing. I saw a few on the road before I purchased and thought "that's what I want". Now that I have the front (and rear bumper) installed, I think they look awesome. The crazy thing is a) The instructions look like a bad, photocopy of some 80s era microfiche and are vague at best; b) there are few quality install videos online; and c) some of the install can be insanely hard. Now, the XRC Gen 2 Front Bumper was very straightforward for me... in fact, it was harder to get the factory bumper off then to do the install of the XRC. The Rear Bumper was another story. Also, the shipping of these bumpers is another common complaint. My front bumper was delivered in a beat up cardboard box (I didn't take pictures of it, but it had holes and a deformed shape). Inside the box, the bumper appeared to be solidly packaged and well protected, but.. as I got it out and installed, there were a few bumps and rubs that were noticeable. Others have had the same complaint. All in All, I think the product is great... if Smittybilt would step up the installation instructions and videos... and would work with their delivery partners to take a little more care, I could see them dominating the industry... instead... it's hit and miss with them. Now that I'm done with the install... have shed some blood, sweat and a few choice words... I love the product... but man, not sure I would want to go through the install again. ... show more
