  • Bring the stars inside
Very cool gift that allows kids to see the stars from the comfort of their bed.

  • Great, but a little pricey.
Kids love it. Makes a great nightlight and/or activity. A little pricey at $40. So dont let the kids break it too fast, its plastic.

  • Soothing, covers a wide area of ceiling and definitely worth your money
Initially when I was researching home planetariums, I was put off by some of the negative reviews on this product, and instead convinced myself to shell out $250 for the Sega Flux (you can see my review under that). I promptly returned it the next day and ordered the Smithsonian after all. It’s still not super realistic and honestly, a kid’s nightlight would probably do the job just as well, but it’s soothing, pretty and covers a large swath of ceiling, and you can have just stars or mix it up with pics of the moon, planets or spaceships if you choose. And we’ll worth the $40. ... show more

  • Cheaply made
You’ll need a very small screwdriver. The buttons don’t always turn lights off. Comes with three small viewfinder-like wheels, but what’s seen isn’t labeled. You need to shine this on a close wall. It’s very fuzzy on the ceiling, I misplaced the small folder paper that might tell me what the heck I’m looking at. My very precocious three year old knows lots of planet trivia, but I can’t check accuracy ... show more

  • Prefect for what I wanted it to do!
I really liked how it was easy to put together, the timer goes for 15 mins which is perfect for my 3 year old son. He loves the earth that is pictured here. It has a focus to easily make the planet clear. It takes 4 AA batteries, which is great for moving it to whatever side of the room I want it on. The stars kindof generic but he loves when the rotate. This is the prefect gift for my autistic son that loves the solar system, we pick what planet he wants to look at every night. ... show more

  • Disappointed 8 year old
I thought this would be the perfect gift for my 8 yr old grand daughter who is becoming very explorative. Her dad takes her to museums and other interesting and educational places, and she travels with her Mom sometimes when she travels to other countries. She is a very smart child. So I decided to get her something different for Christmas 2016 and I decided on this. By having the name Smithsonian I figured it would be a very nice projector. NOT! My daughter said she put the batteries in and it stayed on for about 3 minutes. 3 minutes? Yes and I was appalled. Not only was I angered about the fact that it wouldn't stay on but my granddaughter wanted to take it to show and tell and she cannot. Did you ever think that when you are making items for kids at least make sure they work. I don't like disappointing kids but apparently you do not care. I should have read the reviews before buying but I failed to do so simply because it was branded "Smithsonian". Someone called it a piece of junk and I am inclined to agree. ... show more

  • Great addition to bedtime routine
My son loves looking at the planets and other space objects every night before he goes to sleep. He knows all of the planets at 3 years old!

  • Cheap Slide projector
If you want to have blues stars on the wall this is good. If you like to dated images of planets and space vehicles, you might like this product. If you want to give you kids a planetarium or a fun night sky, skip this junk. If my 2 year old didn't enjoy it, i would have returned it. We won't be using the slides because most of them are too small to see through the blue stars. ... show more
