  • Pretty good
A pretty good read, however it throws a lot of non-livestock information in. I would have liked to see more information on stockers. When is the best time to buy? How long should you keep them? Switch to finish food ect. It has some good budget info, but it missed the mark I was looking for. Still it's well written with a lot of information. ... show more

  • Excellent Information!
I absolutely LOVE this book! It would be excellent for anyone thinking of farming or any farmer thinking of changing things up a bit. It offers a ton of very practical information. I have used some of the equations in the back to formulate our own feed for our poultry that costs us half what we were paying the mill and uses ingredients we are happier with. It gives ways for you to do at home forage testing so you can get your farm in great shape! Healthy grasses/soils make for healthy animals and more profits for you! It also has some info about fencing and structures and different ways to configure paddocks of intensive grazing. Really a great resource. I can't count how many times I have referred to this book. ... show more

  • If you are interested in raising livestock you need this book
This is a great book. It is practical, lots of info about grazing, with practical rules on how to manage it. There are lots of real life examples of farmers for reference. I think if you want one book to start with on how to begin farming with livestock, or a good reference book on how to manage pastureland for livestock, this is it. ... show more

  • Excellent Book for self-sufficient living!!!
I bought this book for my husband as a gift because we weren't able to renew it at the library any longer and he loved it as a reference. I haven't read it personally, but my husband is hard to please, so if he uses it as a reference, then I know it was a great buy. Price was right. Very pleased.
