  • Great starter piccolo to play around with - with UPDATE
Color: Nickel
Got this as a gift for my daughter to play around with. She is a flute player. She loved this piccolo and took right to it.! Not the highest quality around but I'm surprised it doesn't seem real cheaply made either. The tone I'm told is a little sharp or metallic. This is definitely not a concert quality instrument, but she has used it some at school (7th grade) pep rallies and one small part in a concert. it's a fantastic value for the price and a great piccolo to learn on and play around with before purchasing a better one. This little inexpensive piccolo started something for my daughter when she was in junior high school. She loved it! And you know, it sounded pretty good! She still plays flute, but this inexpensive piccolo it sparked a love for playing the piccolo with her. She upgraded to a nicer piccolo over time and got better and better. In high school she's been All Region flute, but nows she's also All Region and All Area on the piccolo. This piccolo is a such great gift for a young flute player that is curious about trying the piccolo. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
Color: Silver
Will it make sound? Sure. Will it make clear, good quality sound and easy to play? No. It's skinnier than a standard piccolo, and the keys are not very smooth. We tried this, and our lesson teacher said "It could work, but not really something you'll want to use for anything serious". We returned and purchased a very nice, expensive wood Yamaha piccolo, clearly there is no comparison. This is more of a toy than a real interment. Buy this only if you have money to burn and want to see if you have any interest in playing the piccolo because if you do continue playing the piccolo, you will be buying another one very soon. ... show more

  • Fantastic beginners piccolo
Color: Nickel
This is a nice piccolo. My daughter was playing the flute, and the senior who was graduating that played the schools piccolo complained about it. So, we bought this inexpensive piccolo for her to take his place when he graduated. It has worked. She is now the solo piccolo player for the school. She loves it. She is more comfortable as a soloist and is loving this instrument. The only thing bad thing is that some of the long hinges along the side have become bent after long use, but the local music store was able to fix them. ... show more

  • Junk
Color: Nickel
It’s unfortunate that I have to give any stars at all. Bought this for my daughter for Christmas as she’d been begging for a piccolo for months. Broke after 3 weeks of using. Took it to a music store to see if it could be fixed and was told that it was a faulty piccolo and to ask for a refund. Asked for a refund and it was denied. Tried to get more information as to why it was denied and nobody ever got back to me. Definitely regret this purchase. ... show more

  • Good for beginners.
Color: Black/Gold
I began on the flute when I joined my school band and learned all the notes and keys. I was required to purchase a piccolo and so I searched Amazon until I came across this one. The sound quality is good and it is easy to play, the only issue I have with it is the material (metal) used to make it is cheap and low quality. It looks good and sounds good but if you are looking for a piccolo for long term use, I would not recommend this one. ... show more

  • I am so pleased with this purchase.
Color: Nickel
I've only had this flute for about a month, but with it I am terribly pleased. It has a bright, pleasant, tone. Arrived without needing to be 'set up'....is a genuine Yamaha. (For those that get hung up on whether or not it is made in Japan...it is not...however, Yamaha now only makes their professional level flutes in Japan).. A great flute for a daily playing hobbyist. ... show more

I purchased this for my daughter because the school issued Piccolo she had for band was in such poor shape. She is extremely happy. It sounds so much nicer. We are very happy with the purchase

  • Great for a beginner, not for an experienced user.
Color: Nickel
I am not a professional flute/piccolo player, and bought this in order to play piccolo again. This is a great value for the price, however the sound quality isn't the greatest. In the box, I received a cleaning cloth, cleaning rod, hard case, grease, and the piccolo itself. I was surprised to receive the grease as I had read other reviews saying they didn't get it. The piccolo was wrapped in a layer of tissue paper and covered in small plastic sleeves. There weren't any scratches or defects in the finish. When I play it, the notes sound very airy. Also, the case is a nice sturdy hard case, but the inside doesn't hold the piccolo tightly and there isn't much room to keep the cleaning cloth inside. I ended up cutting mine and using about two-thirds for cleaning the metal and the last third with the cleaning rod. On the other hand, this is built really well. I don't feel like it's going to snap in my hands if I hold it too tight, and the keys all work without being hard to close like I've seen with other instruments. This would be good for a beginner as the notes are easy to hit. The color is nice as well - mine looks to be on the "warmer" side of the spectrum while still having that nickel color. All in all, this is a really good value for the price, but don't expect it to be like the more expensive options. If you are a beginner wanting to try the piccolo, this is a good entry-level instrument for not a lot of investment. ... show more
