  • Good unit for full moon light
Color: Aurora Pro
The media could not be loaded. I took this unit to Zimbabwe, Africa, for a game count. The example photos and videos were shot in full moon light, but we had very limited naked eye visibility beyond a few meters. The attached video is one we shot in full-moon light using the unit. It performed well in full-moon light. The digital zoom is not sharp, but that is to be expected. Digital zoom is never sharp. The images were quite sharp when not zoomed. The elephants in the video vary from 80 to 120 meters distance from our location. The battery life was excellent. I went through four batteries in the 12-hour period that we used it. So, we got about 3 hours out of each battery. The unit is small and very light weight. It would easily be mounted to a visor or helmet for hands-free operation. I also used a thermal camera during the same period, so to compare the two, this unit provided a good video quality with some color while the thermal unit provided a much sharper determination of animals. The thermal unit was far superior at finding animals, down to the size of small springhares (about the size of smallish rabbit) and up to the size of giraffe and elephant, while this unit was less capable of spotting animals, it was far better at showing their true colors when we were looking for stripes or markings to determine species or genders. Changing batteries was difficult. The need to remove the subjective eyepiece to access the battery is challenging to say the least. Novice user were immediately able to use the device with very little instruction. Simply turn the dial and look through the lens. Overall, I would give this unit very high marks for the price. I have used military-grade units that did not perform as well. Be aware that if there is no moon light, this unit will perform much better with an infrared light source. I highly recommend this unit and would use it with an external infrared light. ... show more

  • Pretty good for night vision.
Color: Aurora Pro
This works well for amplifying ambient light at night to allow you to see the nightscape better. I bought it to attach to a 14" Dobsonian Telescope, hoping it would bring out faint galaxies better. It works to some extent, but is not really designed for that purpose.

  • No LEO or military would ever use this for NVG
Color: Aurora Pro
The concept of this camera seems pretty cool. Who wouldn't want affordable NVG that can even produce color? Well, you get what you pay for, or not? First, and the biggest gripe is that this can't handle motion. If you move, it the screen will lag behind your movements. Second, without an illuminator these devices will give you horribly bad pictures even with a little light. I tried taking pictures of the sky, and I got alot of blur. The middle "set" button has functionality that requires you to press and hold the button, but if you're too firm the button can get stuck. There are also no good attachments for these. The only one that sionyx offers is an overpriced picatinny rail that you can buy elsewhere for half the price. Overall dissapointed, and it seems like the best option is to spend the money for an actual NVG 2 or 3 product ... show more

  • 2.7k 30fps
Color: Aurora Pro
Great quality camera but with the amount of money you spend on it and the fact it has a 1" sensor you would expect it to have the ability in todays filming quality to have an option to film at 30 fps and 4k. The 2.7k 30fps is fine in my case as I only have this in use as a stationary camera. I also notice if it is going to be more than stationary while filming it lags a lot. Again in my case I need the camera as a stationary camera so I am fine. Maybe I will expect better upgrades on the next PRO version. ... show more

  • The future of Affordable quality NV is here
Color: Aurora Pro
I love this product, it’s not 3rd gen white phosphor but it’s really amazing what this can do for $1000. These shots were taken with no IR illumination deep in the forest, 1/4 moon partly cloudy. I usually use it as a monocular but I’ve also used it helmet mounted. It’s light, small, and works extremely well. I’ve used this for night hikes on my property with no light and if I use a low power IR source like the Streamlight sidewinder, i can see in complete darkness and the IR LED signature is invisible from 3 feet with the naked eye in complete darkness. Head mounted I’m able to take notes in complete darkness, rig my pack, and play frisbee with my dogs, and keep an eye on my property at night. ... show more
