  • First Router, First Impressions
Color: Yellow
As the title says, this is my first wood router, so take my inexperience into consideration. To me, for a budget router this tool seems to work really well on pine and particle board, which is all I've used it on so far. It's hard to control freehand when cutting a straight-line groove, so I used a board for a guide and clamped it into place. The router pulls to the left (they probably all do because of the torque generated by the high spin rate) so you'll want to place the guide on the left side. It's really easy to cut a straight groove that way. It comes with a generous supply of router bits. Each comes in it's own storage tube and has labels. You can see them in the photo of my bit storage board that I made using the router to groove out the individual shelves. There is no glue or hardware used for the shelves, just grooves routered into the base and tightly fitting mini-shelves tapped into place. I did have to go buy a bit to finish the grooves as the 3mm bit broke after a few cuts, but that could have come from my inexperience. I haven't had any trouble with the other bits I've used. Note that the router has a non-polarized plug. The sales copy doesn't say the tool is double-insulated. My newer tools all have a polarized plug or a third ground wire, only my old tools have non-polarized plugs. I'm not an electrician so I don't know if that's a safety issue or not, but the router does work well. Non-polarized plugs have never been an issue for me, even with 20+ year old tools, so I don't view it as an issue. I only mention it for disclosure purpose. The user manual that comes with it is a much lower quality than the router. The grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes are common for products written by people whose first language isn't English, but the lack of quality goes deeper than that. The safety instructions are OK, it's when it goes into using the router where it goes downhill. For example, in one place it calls the on/off switch a toolswitch, and in another it's called the on-off valve. Some of the drawings will show four numbered parts, but only two of the descriptions of the parts are numbered. It's not hard to figure it out, but the inconsistency speaks to a lack of quality with the instruction manual, leaving a little room for doubt as to how much trust can be placed in the content. To summarize, despite the poorly written instruction manual, this seems like a pretty good router for the price. I'm glad to have it. ... show more

  • Handy Little Router – Wood Router
Color: Yellow
I was excited to give this handheld wood router a try. You really can operate it with one hand and still have effective control. This is a nice convenience, and it really helps when doing small detail work. It is easier to get the router in the right spot. The motor is strong and powerful enough that I have not had any problems when routing red oak, which is pretty much the hardest material that I work with. The overall construction is good while it probably isn’t something that would hold up to professional use every day, it is more than fine for occasional use by a homeowner or hobbyist. I do wish they had included an LED light to light up the work area, that is always helpful. They have included a good variety of router bits and my collection of bits fit is just fine as well. I would say they have put together a nice little router that is a good value. ... show more

  • Lots of extras, decent for the weekend woodworker? No..
Color: Yellow
This kit comes with a lot of extras. Fences, and bits, and 3 pkgs of brushes for the motor. I haven't used a tool with brushes for years, but this one has them. And one of the bags has brushes that are broken into pieces. The collet needs 2 wrenches, which come with the tool. They are different sizes, which I've never seen before, and they are thin, so when tightening the nut I can definitely feel the edge of the metal on my hand. A lot. I tried the 1/4" round over bit that came with it, and set it to a deep cut. In maple it seems to work a little harder than I expected. The depth adjustment works alright, but it's slow and clunky, and hard to get fine adjustments. And the on/off switch is one of the old paddle type. The base is 2 pieces, screwed together. One of the pics shows how much dust can get in between the 2 parts. This is after about an 8" cut. I don't see the point of this, since none of the fences/guides need to have the base split apart- as far as I can tell. The instructions are a bit vague, and more can be gleaned from the pictures than the text: "Place the sample gauge on the artifact". I think the 'artifact' is the wood... The fences: I tried one of the fences. It requires attaching one part to the side of the base, then the fence can be attached (pic). These are all thin sheet metal fences. After the fence was attached I made a cut with a small straight bit, and it took little effort to move the fence against the work piece, leaving a curved, rather than straight, groove (pic). This router is best used when you want simple cuts. Maybe round overs, ogees, etc, but you'll need your own fence setup for a groove. The setup required to use this is slow and inaccurate. It might be good for the beginner as long as they are doing simpler work, otherwise I think it would frustrate them. Took over a week to get to me. ... show more

  • Very good little trim router
Color: Yellow
I have one of these that has aged out after 8 years or so. It is exactly like this one except for the color, and this one works just as well with the same power. These little routers are great for people like me who are DIYers and make their own tables, furniture tops, and other items that have nice edges. I have started a project with this router and it performs well. The jigs/guide accessories that come with it are a bonus, but I never use them because I only use this type router for edges or trimming to align. This router will undoubtedly last as long as the other one. ... show more

  • Great for a beginner!
Color: Yellow
The router is good, the packaging and instructions were kinda of bad and confusing. Pretty good for the price and would be good for a beginner once you figure it out
