Frequently asked questions

The Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art DG HSM lens is designed for Sony E-mount camera systems. This includes full-frame cameras like the Sony A7 series and crop sensor cameras such as the Sony A6000 series. It's versatile and can be used on both types of sensors effectively.

Yes, the Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art DG HSM lens can be excellent for video recording, especially on Sony cameras. Its wide aperture of F1.4 allows for low-light shooting and creates a beautiful bokeh effect, ideal for cinematic video shooting. Plus, its HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet and fast autofocus, crucial for video.

Absolutely, the Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art DG HSM lens is fantastic for portrait photography. Its wide F1.4 aperture enables a shallow depth of field, allowing subjects to stand out sharply against a softly blurred background. This focal length is also versatile, providing a natural perspective that's flattering for portraits.

The Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art DG HSM lens excels in low light conditions. Its F1.4 aperture allows for a significant amount of light to hit the sensor, enabling photographers to shoot in dim environments without sacrificing shutter speed or ISO. This makes it an excellent choice for indoor, evening, or any situation where light is limited.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Sigma lens garners high praise from users for its superior build quality, sharp and color-accurate image production, and effective autofocus performance, challenging more expensive competitors like Sony's native lenses. Noted for enhancing the photography experience due to its remarkable optical quality, it has been a favorite among professional and hobbyist photographers alike. However, its substantial size and weight, along with some minor autofocus issues, are noted drawbacks.

Pros

  • 👌 Great build quality, often compared favorably to Sony's lenses
  • 📸 Produces sharp, color-accurate images straight out of the camera
  • 🔍 Fast and accurate autofocus, especially notable on Sony A7 series cameras
  • 🔄 Firmware updates provide continuous improvements
  • 👁️ Excellent for composition and environmental portraits, with limited fringing
  • 💼 Costs less than native Sony lenses while maintaining high quality

Cons

  • ⚖️ Heavier and larger than comparable lenses, which might be cumbersome for some
  • 🔋 High autofocus performance can consume more battery
  • 💧 Body can be delicate, prone to scratches and wear over time
  • 🧐 Some instances of minor focusing issues noted

Should I Buy It?

If you value exceptional image quality, durability, and are looking for a versatile lens that rivals more expensive options without breaking the bank, this lens is a superb choice. Its weight and size may be a consideration for those who prefer a more compact setup, but the quality of output and savings might outweigh these concerns for many. Recommended for both professional settings and hobbyist photography, it's a sound investment for upgrading your photography gear.

  • Great Lens. A lot of quality for the money, update-able through firmware, heavy and long for a 35mm
Great build quality, better than some Sony G lenses. This lens helps me be a better photographer, great look to the photos straight out of the camera. It is long and very heavy for a 35mm lens and because there is not Sigma firmware cap for Sony E mount it was a little difficult to get the firmware up to date. But the fact that Sigma is pushing firmware updates out for their lenses is awesome. Great lens ... show more

  • Sharp, beautiful and fast
AF is fast and accurate on the Sony a7iii and I haven’t missed focus yet at f1.4. Fringing is minimal and although this lens is bigger and heavier than the Sony FE 35mm 1.8 I am absolutely 100% satisfied with the Sigma. As a portrait photographer I’ve graduated past the honeymoon phase of going for awesome bokeh with the 85mm and 55mm and now focusing more on composition which the 35mm will absolutely force you to do as an environmental lens. I still use the Zeiss 55mm and FE 85mm 1.8 but this has been my go to lens as of late. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Great for Hair videos!
I just got this and I've been using it for hairstyling tutorials. It is amazing quality and the autofocus is amazing. I used to have a canon 5dm4 that I used but I rented the Sony a7iii recently with a 35mm and I was sold so I purchased it and now I use it daily for my videos. It's so good! Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Extremely good for professional photography.
Lens is extremly good. Pictures are really sharp and lens captures the colors really nice. Autofocus is really good, but consumes lots of battery. The body is little delicate, and prone to get scratches .. where as lens is as good as sony quality.

  • MY FAVORITE LENS
I love this lens and it was my first ART lens. It makes me want nothing but their ART lenses. 85mm will be my next lens purchase. The quality of materials and photos is so amazing and sharp. It is pretty heavy but that doesn’t really bother me unless I’m shooting for a very long time. Can’t forget about that shallow 1.4 depth of field either. As a hobbyist photographer, this is a great lens to purchase to help up your image quality. ... show more

  • It was used?
I received the lens today & it had been used/opened & the lens cap was not on all the way! I haven’t had the chance to use it just yet, will update when I do. Hoping there are no issues, I have been looking forward to this purchase for a long time!

  • Great lens! Wish I would have just started with this!
A lot of photographers have complained of the auto focus and maybe it’s because I got this after using the nifty 50 for so long but I’m in love it isn’t perfect but certainly soooo much better than what I had and I cannot complain! Took it out for the first time and I’m obsessed did some quick phone edits and I just love it! Can’t wait to use it for weddings! ... show more
