  • At $554 this is a freaking steal! Amazing quality and Versatility
Style: Art lens Pattern: Single Item
So I bought this lens at $799 and I saw today it’s on sale for 30% off at $554. I just returned and bought it at the new price because I was within the return window but I would have been happy with it even paying the full price. At this current price it’s a freaking steal. I have had the pleasure of using this for the past week and I can confidently say it is an amazing piece of glass. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a macro lens for Sony e mounts. I use a Sony A7 IV camera and the image quality this combo can produce is stunning. I walked around a downtown area and just shot everything wide open at f2.8 and it made everything gorgeous with minimal distortion. The colors pop and everything looks incredibly sharp especially when viewed on a high end color accurate monitor. The bokeh it can produce in portrait shots looks beautiful and well blended. Another interesting upside of this is it’s low light performance. I included one shot of a downtown area at night to showcase what it can do in this area. I shot that night image free handed and due to the A7s built in stabilization it still came out great. Arguably it’s low light performance even rivals my sigma 35mm f1.4 art lens and that’s impressive given how impressive that lens is as well. The build quality of the lens is also great, I love the usage of metal and the high quality physical switches and dials. With that high quality feel comes quite a bit of weight though. Be aware that this is a heavy setup if used on an a7 or something of comparable weight. This doesn’t bother me but could be a problem for others. The only thing that could feel better on the build quality of the lens is maybe the focus ring due to its feel and the heavy use of rubberized plastic around it but that might come down to personal preference. There are only a few other downsides and I can easily look past those given what it can do. Like others have said, the autofocus isn’t as perfect as the rest of this package. This is due to the noise it produces(not a huge issue for me) and because it’s not as speedy as some other lens. Manual focus works great though and Sonys DMF focus setting also works great if you wanna quickly try to autofocus then adjust manually to make sure you have your shot in perfect focus. Overall I am extremely pleased with this lens and love finding new ways to use it. Also be aware that it can do much more than close up macro shots and portraits. I was surprised at the versatility of this lens and the variety of different shots I could create with the 105mm focal length. Side note: One of the top reviews says you can’t change the aperature within your camera. That is not true. Just leave the aperature ring on the “A” setting and the camera can control it (which is what I prefer). ... show more

  • Perfect enough
Style: Art lens Pattern: Single Item
The epitome of a macro lens. I was on the fence between this and the 90mm Sony. I chose the Sigma because the reviews had said it had better sharpness. I can tell you this thing is sharp! The focus mechanism is pretty loud but that's fine to live with. For half the price of the Sony this is a great buy! ... show more

  • I am impressed with this lens but it does take some getting used to
Style: Art lens Pattern: Single Item
The media could not be loaded. 5/5 Rating First impression - This lens is pretty dope. I currently am an event photographer and I realized there's one lens that was missing from my arsenal and that was a macro lens. I am a Sony shooter and prefer native Sony lenses when it comes to Zooms and primes but I will tell you this Sigma Art Lenses are NO JOKE. They are great quality, provide great color, very fast. And they are slowly filling up my camera bags. It took about 5 days for this lens to arrive. Once I got it and examined it I noticed the build quality was excellent. The focus ring and aperture ring are placed differently and one thing I noticed I have to always adjust the aperture ring, it's not adjustable within camera you have to manually adjust with lens. This is entirely new to me. It takes some getting used to. But once you do you are off to the races. I do not see myself using this lens as a permanent mainstay on my camera. It's there to serve a specific purpose - Macro shots, portraits that need extremely sharp focus. This lens will not serves it's best benefit to use as a walkaround lens. But if you need a macro - This lens is a great alternative to the Sony 90mm. Just know, it will take some getting used to to adjust the focus and aperture ring. Pros Excellently priced Specialty lens Very sharp Short focusing distance Focus speed is pretty decent (depending on what you're focusing on) Cons Unable to adjust aperture within camera. Not too crazy about that. Must be done thru the lens ... show more

  • Nice optics, bad AF
Style: Art lens Pattern: Single Item
Optically, this lens was pretty nice. Unfortunately I found the AF performance to be terrible. There was a LOT of focus breathing to the point of not being usable in many situations. In MF mode, using Sony's MF highlighting made it easy to work with in some situations, but that kills the versatility of the lens. If you live in MF mode, you'd probably like this lens. ... show more

Lens showed up well packaged. Registered with Sigma for the extended warranty with no issues. This is by far my favorite and takes great macro photos as well as portraits.

  • Amazing Lens for the money!
Style: Art lens Pattern: Single Item
I originally bought this lens specifically for macro photography to photograph flowers. This lens is quite amazing for almost every thing you'd want to photograph. Even though I've been into macro photography for years, this lens does have a bit of a learning curve to it. Using auto focus with this lens can be a bit frustrating as it doesn't seem to be able to lock in on the subject. I'm honestly not sure if it's the lens or my camera. This lens is also great for portraits and just anything you might want to photograph. It is very well made and a high quality lens for the money. I have several Sigma lenses that I have been using for years and I highly recommend their products. ... show more

  • Love it!
Style: Art lens Pattern: Single Item
This was my first Sigma lens! Love the build quality, image quality and style of the photos that come out of this thing. The autofocus motor is a liiiiitttle bit loud, but no big deal at all. I probably should be using manual focus for macro shots anyway. The images and videos always turn out beautiful. Sigma comes in clutch with the image quality, yet again. Awesome lens! ... show more
