Top Amazon Reviews

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Comfy mattress, not as big as a true Queen Size
Style: Queen
I am editing my review as of 6/7/2021. Pros: -Baffles and divots on surface of imattress helps for bed to conform to shape of body. Most importantly, it makes the mattress more comfortable than not having baffles and divots (It is much much more comfortable than the alps mountaineering vertex). I had both side by side, and the alps mountaineering vertex has a somewhat flatter surface than the sierra designs. the alps mountaineering is also more rigid and therefore not as comfortable as the sierra designs. -The sierra designs has a built in headrest. The alps does not. -The bottom surface on the sierra feels different than the top surface that you sleep on. Im not sure why, but may be there is a function for this feature???? The alps surface is the same on the top and bottom surfaces. -The Sierra designs has a valve on the side wall of the bed at the foot side. The alps bed has the valve on the underside of the bed, which is a design flaw. The alps bed is therefore annoying to inflate and deflate. -No PVC or pthalates. -Blows up within 4 min (with BOTH valves off, you add a majority of the air. Then, you add the first valve which will allow you to add more air at aa slower rate too avoid over-inflating the mattress. When fully inflated, you add/close the 2nd valve--the Boston valve is made of two valves that will cap each other.)l -deflates quickly and seems sturdy. -held air over 3 days at temperatures around 55F at night outdoors and without having to re-inflate -Has no chemical smells out of the box. -Air pump is battery operated and works so far after 3 uses. -Inflated, it weighs 4.9 lbs on my scale ( which may be a pro or con to some people) *The sierra designs is THREE TIMES CHEAPER and more comfortable than the alps mountaineering mattress! Cons: -With my retractable measuring tape, I measured 54.25 inches wide and 77 inches long with the mattress fully inflated. This may or may not fit certain 2-3 person tents depending on the floor layout of your tent. (alternatively, the alps mountaineering measures 55.5 inches wide and 80 inches long with the mattress fully inflated). *Unless you are 6feet 5 inches or higher, you may not need the 3 inches of bed length. The con is that it is NOT a true queen size mattress. -Still has some bounce when someone moves/tosses/turns but not as bad as the alps mountaineering -Not as comfortable as a traditional home mattress but more comfortable than other inflatable camping mattresses (as subject to my own opinion). **Edit on Dec 13th 2021: held air very well at 2 nights of camping at 31F. -Be sure to close both valves tightly so that you dont lose air. The tag attached to the boston valves says to ensure that both valves are closed tightly to avoid losing air (in a previous autumn camping trip i noticed that the mattress was losing air. I thought either the valve was bad or i had a leak. Before packing up camp, i noticed that i could turn the valves a little bit more to close them. Then in a winter camping trip, I made sure the valves could not be turned clockwise any further and this time the mattress held air for 2 nights. -Also note that this mattress is not insulated!!! For cold winter nights, buy a reusable queen size mylar emergency blanket/tarp for about 15 dollars (buy the thicker, foldable mylar emergency blanket, NOT the thin crinkly/disposable one.). Place it between you and the air mattress. On our 2nd night of camping, The mylar blanket served as a good barrier between you and the cold air that was held in the mattress. It made a difference compared to our first night where we didnt add the mylar blanket and we felt the cold air coming into our backs as we slept. We placed the emergency blanket between a fitted bed sheet/blanket and the air mattress, for the preference of feeling a cotton bed sheet over mylar. The temperature was 31F on both nights. -As of 10/1/2021 i stopped using the battery operated pump that came with the mattress. I now use a 3rd party pump that is powered by the cigarette lighter on your car since it is more powerful. The electric cord pump delivers air much faster than the battery operated pump (even with a new set of batteries). ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Best inflatable mattress I’ve ever owned
Style: Queen
This mattress is amazing! I ordered mine in February 2022 and it’s still going strong. We have left it for months on end fully inflated and it just stays inflated and ready to be used when we got on it again. My wife and I both use it in our tent when we camp outside and it fits perfect in our little tent. It’s also perfect for people who are sensitive to plastic or smelly products, it doesn’t have offensive odors! We really love this mattress for our needs! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly as expected!
Style: Queen
TLDR; Comfortable, portable, durable, full-size (not queen). Highly recommend! I will not penalize this air mattress for being as advertised. It should not be called "Queen size" but the measurements are listed, and if you did your homework and read the reviews you know it's actually a full size. I went on a 2 week camping trip, and was looking for a smaller mattress than the Sable full size which is what I will be comparing this to. The walls of my tent come up at an angle, so a taller mattress means it has to sit farther from the wall and take up more space. For some reason mattress companies assume that if you are sleeping alone, you must be short. It's prejudice, but who's speaking up for the little people? I digress. Sure there are one or two twin xl mattresses on the market, but they were all too high off the floor. After moving it far enough away from the tent wall so that it wasn't touching the side of the tent or looming inches from my face, I might as well find a short full size mattress. Enter Sierra Designs! I didn't measure the mattress, but it fit perfectly in my tent, and being nearly 78" long (advertised) my feet didn't reach the end (I'm 5'11" 220 lbs). I didn't expect it to be comfortable with all those divots in it, and when I sat on it, I sank almost to the bottom, but laying down with my weight distributed across the mattress gave it just the right amount of give. It was very comfortable. I also didn't notice much noise from turning over on it. It was quiet. It folded up nicely when I was ready to pack up and go. My biggest complaint is that it you have to be fast when airing it up. As soon as it's full, drop the pump, put the plug in it and start screwing it shut. My second night, I woke up with the mattress almost halfway deflated. I thought I had a hole, but I aired it up, made sure both plugs were screwed in tight, and haven't had any problems with it since (6 more nights at various campsites). Compared to the Sable full size air mattress, Sierra Designs is almost a foot shorter about half the height, doesn't have a built in pump, folds up smaller and more easily, seemed slightly more comfortable, less firm maybe. Comfort is subjective. Overall, I was very pleased and would highly recommend this mattress as a single individual needing a little more length, and less height. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars I have insomnia very bad and this mat has helped some because it dose not get hit per se.
Style: Queen
I have a hard time sleeping at night. And sometimes sleep in different spots in the house throughout the night— I bought this mat because the said it stayed cool— and it definitely stays cooler then the Other 3 high end mats that were a lot more money. Cool is key for me.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars So far it's great
Style: Queen
My wife and I, along with our 15 month old son, used these on a camping trip recently. They were very easy to inflate and were shockingly comfortable. I guess I've never really "glamped" before though, and since childhood have been used to tiny thermarests that really simply decouple you from the ground instead of give you any kind of cushion. In contrast these mattresses were a dream. I got a fantastic nights rest while in a tent. I don't think that's ever happened. I can confirm that, as the promotional photos suggest, a medium sized dog can sleep on one no problem although I was a bit paranoid about her claws. The pump did a decent enough job, but I would prefer that it was rechargeable. Not a big deal though. We did have to reinflate before our second night but I attribute that to temperature changes. Next time I go camping I'll try to update this more for longevity. After a two night outting though, I would 100% recommend this bed. ... show more
