🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Overall, the Shimano Torium fishing reel has a lot of positive feedback from users who appreciate its durability and performance. It's considered a great investment for fishing enthusiasts and has handled various larger fish species like wahoo, tuna, Amberjacks, and Grouper well on different trips. However, the reel's hardware has been mentioned as problematic by some, with the mounting hardware not fitting certain rods and clamp screws breaking easily.

Pros

  • 🎣 Excellent performance when fighting large marine species.
  • 👍 Great investment for fishing enthusiasts.
  • 💪 Held up well on multiple fishing trips.

Cons

  • ⚙️ Mounting hardware may not fit all rods.
  • 🔩 Clamp screws could break easily.
  • 🔄 Star drag comes really close to the speed control knob causing them to rub.

Should I Buy It?

If you're a serious angler and need a reliable reel to bring in big game fish, the Shimano reel may be a good investment. However, be aware of possible hardware issues, particularly if you intend to use different rods or the reel's mounting clamp.

  • best reel for deep sea in southern Cali
Size: One Size
This reel is the best investment you could make if you like fishing. Shimano reels are great to use when fighting large dorado and tuna off southern california. I pulled a 37 pound bluefin with this 20hg torium partnered with my shimano tallus. I am going to buy another one for next season.

Shimano is the best ! Smooth and easy to use. Today I reel in about 10 bluefish 14-16lbs with no problem. Highly recommended.

  • mounting hardware issues
I bought this to replace the old style torium 20 on my nine foot deckhand style kencore. The first thing i noticed was that the bolts were very thin compared to what i am used to with my other shimano reels but i assume they are tested and will not break. Unfortunately this reel did not fit on the nine foot that i bought it for because the bolts were both to short and to close together, the way the bolts are designed it will be very hard to find replacements that fit. It is probably my rods fault but i have never owned a reel that did not fit on it before now. so for now i just put the old torium 20 back on the 9 foot and put the new torium 30a on my eight foot deckhand style kencore which is a hair smaller in diameter. i have not taken it out yet but hopefully it can handle the bluefin season in san diego this year. ... show more

  • The high gear ratio is awesome, but a little getting used to at first
Size: One Size
The high gear ratio is awesome, but a little getting used to at first. Love that that drag is so smooth. Love the long handle, love the gears... But HATE how quickly the inside parts, especially the bearings, get corroded and need to be overhauled. Would not buy another for this reason alone. I run a charter fishing business and am really disappointed in the real due to that one most important aspect. ... show more

  • An excellent reel for the money

An excellent reel for the money. The reel worked well on 6 day fishing trip where it was put to the test on some very angry 45 lb wahoo.
