I bought this for my son for a vacation to the lake. The rod held up to him playing with it and smacking it into things. The rod casts well and worked well throughout the week. My son was able to use the rod and catch some fish. Good first rod for a kid.

Purchased for 3 year old to start to teach casting. This is perfect. Not heavy and he can hold this very easily. The little fake fish is perfect for practice. Our little guy has been in back yard practicing and can really cast well with this. Good construction, well made, very happy

    • Perfect Cat Toy
I bought this toy to entertain my pet and now my senior cat cannot get enough of it and it has quickly become her favorite toy. As soon as I go to grab it, she starts meowing loudly in anticipation of playing. I have to hide it when it's not in use, otherwise, she begs to keep going. Being able to cast it and reel it in allows her to jump, hunt, run, track, try to "find" it etc without me having to run around the living room too. I am so glad I finally got a fishing rod for her and feel bad I didn't buy this sooner. It's easy to use however I don't test the weight the line holds by any stretch since my cat just pounces on or bats the end. I don't use the attached weighted fish and left that plastic piece that was already attached to the end of the line since my cat prefers the plastic. It's way more affordable than similar toys at the big box pet stores. The size is great and its fun to see her so happy and excited to play. ... show more

My kids love them! In fact I have to hide them to keep my daughter from casting all over the house. Funny thing is I am the only one to catch a fish on one of these. I was re-baiting the hook for my daughter when I noticed a couple of large mouths close to shore, my daughter had lost interest waiting for me to set her back up so I dropped the hook and BAM, my first fish of the year. 1.5 lbs largemouth less than a foot from shore. To those who say the line cannot be replaced, yes it can. Remove the set screw on the side and remove the cap and you will be able to replace the line (I recommend you do). ... show more

    • OK...It's Spiderman...but...
I bought this for my grandson(4) who is crazy about Spiderman. He went absolutely crazy for this. However....in about an hour..it was falling apart, the line was snared....etc. at the same time, I gave his older brother(6) a pseudo "real" rod & reel. The spiderman was $20 ( I think) the spinning reel and rod was $25. It actually works, can take some abuse and still be used to fish with. I bought the other grandson a new rod & reel to fish with since the Spiderman was is trash...but he still likes it. Conclusion: great toy. piece of crap rod&reel. He enjoyed the spiderman 1 so much...I might have done the exact same thing over ( buying 2 sets). ... show more

I'm reviewing this only for what I purchased it for, which is as a cat toy. I bought this to tie a cat toy to, cast it across my apartment, and reel it in for the cat to chase it. For this purpose, it is perfect. My cat is about 15-16 pounds and when the cat catches it, the rod stands up to his weight. So if using it as an ACTUAL fishing rod for a small child, I can only tell you my 15-16 pound cat hasn't snapped the string yet. ... show more

My little guy absolutely loves this fishing rod! We don't currently use it with the actual hook yet but use it with the included practice fish. I have tied the practice fish to a piece of Christmas ribbon (about 2 feet) and he practices his casting inside and at the pond and beach. We have been playing like this since Christmas with the rod and it has held up well! No rusting from the salt water! ... show more
